Ann Arbor Yoga & Meditation: what do users think?
outlying data point: Ema is exactly what I needed for both yoga / body and mind .
Analía Lessenberry Valdez: When one has certain difficulties in life, or perhaps, feels lost, it can be really hard to take advice from people who have not gone through what you have gone through.I am choosing to be very candid in my review, in hope that it might help or encourage someone else who is in the place that I once occupied.I came to Ema a little over 12 years ago. Only 19 at the time I wanted to learn more about yoga, one of the only things that made me "feel better". I had a very high score of "Adverse Childhood Effects". This manifests itself in many ways in those who have suffered trauma, but in me it manifested itself in: depression, anxiety, insomnia, emotional, physical and other types of imbalances in my mind and body. Simply put I had never seen what it was like to have a good, happy, balanced life. Many things about society had me questioning. Why were my instincts so different than what society told me they had to be? Couldn't I just be myself? First I had to meet my "self" and that is where Ema came in.At the time I was studying the 500hr Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training, but now as an adult I realize I was really receiving a sophisticated form of Yoga Therapy. Learning the techniques that Ema taught me, helped to save me what would likely have been thousands of hours in talk therapy and even more money in medication. I am so grateful I found a natural way to bring about harmony and balance in my life. Not to mention grateful that I was exposed to "real yoga" which encompasses a wide scope of topics well beyond just physical postures. I notice friends and acquaintances who have completed yoga teacher trainings elsewhere often have no clue of certain topics I bring up to them that are integral to my personal practice.During that period I was able to enjoy around 3 yoga retreats with her in amazing locations around Michigan. The Lake Michigan retreat really stands out to me and I look forward to returning this summer. Now at 32 years old I have begun studying with Ema again. I was going through another transition period in my life and wanted to learn deeper forms of meditation. Ema was right there for me as if no time had even passed. Since I live on the East Coast now she was willing to do private virtual lessons with me. I felt like that experience would not be the same as in person classes. To my surprise, even over the internet, Ema is able to transmit a special energy. It is hard to describe but with some simple instructions, meditation feels easy and natural with her.Without her guidance and the acquisition of a yogic lifestyle I would have never been able to be at the point I am at now. I have a good full time job, many fulfilling artistic hobbies, as well as meaningful friendships and relationships. When I started studying yoga with Ema over 12 years ago I never could have even conceived of viewing life in the way I do now. The world is no longer a horrible place where everyone was out to hurt me. I am able to be happy, but without the manic ups and downs. Younger me still cannot believe what I have been able to accomplish.Ema showed me how to be a "balanced" creative person and follow my natural intuition. This has given me unspeakable opportunities and experiences.Thank you Ema! I am eternally grateful for you and for the grace of yoga! I look forward to doing Continuing Education courses towards my Teaching Certification with her.
Pugal Janakiraman: Awesome teacher with really deep knowledge who have transformed my life in less than 5 sessions.
Karen Stevens: Hello! I went to the Retreat at SW Lake Michigan, last weekend (July 29-31/2022) and I have to say it was one of the most touching experiences I have had in my life, the place is so peaceful, special, it's magic!! However that was nothing compare to Ema, she is such an amazing woman, she has a lot of knowledge and his energy is very special. Words can't describe very well what I experienced. But if you made it to this comment, just go!! You won't regret it!Thank you Ema!!
Cass Donakey: Ema is really knowledgeable at her craft. Her training is admirable.
Brandon R. Lewandowski-Scott: To say that I enjoyed my experience and that I am glad I did it, is an understatement; this experience is difficult to put into words. Ema is extremely knowledgeable and it is apparent how she has dedicated her life to learning and teaching. I admire Ema and strive to be like Ema in the way that she operates from heart and passion only! I intend to return again someday and hope to experience other adventures offered by Ema, along the way, as well.
Judy Bradford: My weekend retreat with Ema was soooo relaxing and informative. She is very sensitive to each individual's needs, and won't move on to the next exercise (whether yoga or mediation) until she is confident everyone "gets it" and is ready to move on. I learned so many new ways to get into a meditative state, and I will continue to use these methods to reduce anxiety and help with my sleep.
Emmy Schwab: Ema guided me through very specific yogic exercises that brought me consciousness-based experiences of a singular, universal insight. This insight in their moments gave me a novel sense of clarity and purpose and love, the power of which I’d never before experienced. Before we departed, Ema gave me the resources I’d need to continue down the path.
Kyle Kleeberger: I attended a 3 day retreat back in April of 2021. The instruction was genuine, thorough and positive overall. I look forward to my next encounter with Ema Stefanova!
wesenf peterson: Positive:QualityEma is a great instructor. I have known her for more than 22 years and really enjoy her classes.
Jasper Z: I am new to yoga and have worked with Ema for only a month and a half... and the results are immediately visible. I have a Fitbit watch and it has shown a dramatic decrease in my resting heart rate that visibly correlates to the start date of my yoga lessons. I usually have liver and hip issues around this time of the year from season changes and doing yoga with her has significantly helped me cope with those things... and I'm just starting. Her instructions are very well geared towards addressing my immediate issues and are tremendously helpful for everyday life. I would highly recommend her.
Chris Traugott: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Jennifer Toothnanny: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityFor the best yoga experiences, look no further. Ema provides her students with excellent classes for yoga and meditation. The retreat experiences were incredible. Ema is a professional with years of experience and the yoga is very traditional and authentic. This center will help your mind and body!
Russell Quillin: Ema Stefanova is a knowledgable and skilled yoga instructor. She is competent in working with students with a variety of experience and skill levels in yoga and meditation.
Tanya DesJardins: Ema is a very knowledgeable Yoga and Meditation teacher. She is patient and caring and has a great approach. Ema takes time to get to know her students, she make everybody feel welcome and is very encouraging. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a traditional approach to yoga or meditation.
Nick Szpond: Ema is very passionate, patient, and willing to teach. Being a beginner student, I learned a lot about meditation and yoga and was able to use some of the techniques at home as well. I highly recommend Ema whether you are experienced or new to meditation.
Eric Ederer: I took the 500 hour Yoga Teacher course. The course empowered me to make authentic, safe, and personalize Yoga routines with postures, breath, and meditations for overall health and well-being. It is a good course for committed students.
Rho Ostrowski: Ema taught me a great foundation of yoga years ago. During my yoga practice, I often find myself remembering the foundation and structure both energetically and physically that Ema instilled into me. Her depth of Yoga knowledge is refreshing. I would highly recommend anyone looking to get in touch with their body and inner self to take a class with Ema.Thank You Ema! :)
Tina Green: Ema is a very knowledgeable yoga and mediation instructor. Her teaching is not your typical westernized yoga classes. She is true to the practice. The retreat atmosphere that she offers is perfect for self reflection. The balance between group practice and self practice was perfect. I love her guided Yoga Nidra. I opted to take my yoga teacher training from Ema after researching all the available trainings in the area. I believe that her training is extremely comprehensive and much more in depth than others that I reviewed. I know I will be a successful teacher because of her guidance.
Doug Wathen: Ema's teaching style is very personal; what works for you. This is not trendy yoga but traditional with high quality instruction. Like many of her students, I have been studying with her for years.
Emmak9: Amazing knowledge and insight on traditional yoga and meditation, improved my practice and general out look. Definitely recommend.

aUM Yoga: what do users think?
Sabrina Lanker: Probably my favorite yoga studio I’ve been to in the area. This studio is fun, welcoming, and a great workout! Classes can range from easy to super sweaty, and I always feel great after I leave. Love this place!
Claire Yang: I have recently tried yoga and have enjoyed taking classes at Aum Yoga. While being a beginner, I feel included while practicing yoga as everyone has different skill experience with yoga. Overall the staff and community is friendly and supportive as you are able to practice yoga while also being challenged and practice different yoga techniques and poses!
Dianne K.: I have done both yoga and pole classes at this studio. I like that yoga classes are a good balance of challenging yet still approachable. My only complaint is that the temperature can range from pretty chilly to really hot so I recommend wearing layers to adjust.
Maeve Lucas: Out of all the yoga studios I have tried in Ann Arbor, AUM is by far my favorite. The environment is safe and peaceful and the instructors are easy to follow. They create such a calm atmosphere (but definitely give you a work out)! The flexibility (virtual or in-person) and diverse schedule makes it very accommodating for students as well! I also love the natural lighting and location of the studio.
Gabby DeMott: I took a long break from yoga and was nervous to get back into it, especially in a studio setting, but I have had nothing but positive experiences since starting back up at aUM. The environment is incredibly positive, the instructors are talented, and there is a wide range of classes offered. I definitely recommend, even if you’re out of practice or completely new, this is a great place!
Olivia Graham: This place has genuinely become my 2nd home. I’m going on 2 years of practicing here and I’ll keep coming back. I started with Vinyasa 1 and now religiously go to Vinyasa 3. Jess’s classes are always a good sweat. VinYin with Chelsea is my favorite for winding down because it’s the perfect combo of flow and stretch. Overall, my favorite thing is I always know what to expect, but never stop learning. Despite being a competitive dancer growing up, I feel stronger and more flexible now than I did then.
Natasha Bair: I've taken their yoga classes and let me tell you!!!!! I use to hate yoga, but it's so fun and challenging now. I've really enjoyed all of the instructors and the calming atmosphere.
Nomi Rosen: Love this studio! Great range of classes for all skill levels. I've been coming for over 6 months now almost every day. I love Jessie's Vin 3, especially if you want an extra challenge.
Soojin Lee: When I moved into the Ann Arbor area about a year ago, I was on the hunt for some low impact+strengthening exercise. I’d never really enjoyed yoga before, but the wonderful team at aUM Yoga has made me a convert! They do primarily serve the University of Michigan community, so you need to be ok with taking class with college students…but I’m totally fine being one of the few older townies amongst the 20-somethings! The teachers are welcoming, I’ve never felt out of place (in fact, they were greeting me by name by my 2nd or 3rd class!). I also appreciate that the teachers are always receptive to feedback - and even willing to stay after class to help folks with any poses or answer questions. The general vibe is friendly, open, positive, supportive, and empowering, which is really what keeps me coming back. You feel good all around, not just physically, when you leave class.Jessie, Chelsea, Annella, and Helena are instructors I’ve taken from the most often, and they all have been very knowledgeable and wonderful to learn from. Each obviously has their own style (each is aspirational for me!), but they clearly are on the same page philosophically, share best practices, and genuinely enjoy each other which is lovely to see. They are all deeply invested in the practice of yoga as well as the students in their classes.I enjoy the music (teacher’s choice but generally not stereotypically “yoga”-y good stuff with a beat), the temperature (warm but not hot), and the space (the studio does have permanently installed poles since it’s a yoga & pole studio - but I kind of enjoy how they establish lines and spacing for our mats). They don't do hands-on corrections (which is actually COVID-friendly); their approach is to talk you step by step through the poses and flows as well as demonstrating themselves. Vinyasa 1 was a great place to start as a beginner - shorter, more straightforward flows (usually 2 that you run through 3 times), a bit slower (though interesting enough for more advanced yogis to enjoy and add challenge as they see fit). Vinyasa 2 is a step up because the flows are longer and a bit more complex, have even more room for adding challenge based on personal choice, and give the class opportunity to do one more run of the flow on your own time and pacing. They have a whole range of pole dancing classes as well, which I’m trying to screw up the courage to get into, and offer some interesting yoga teacher trainings and retreats. As someone with a dance background, I’ve really loved the interesting, varied flows that the teachers put together - I would actually describe some of them as similar to dance combinations! And as one who is not so fond of balances and inversions, they don’t include a whole lot into the usual flows, and when they are, I don’t feel pressure to take those on if I don’t feel it. I’ve found that over the year, I’ve learned the poses and correct technique pretty organically, and I’ve DEFINITELY felt the changes in my body. After 2 babies, I feel like I’m starting to get some core muscles back! And the mental/emotional benefits have been great as well. They have nice new client offers - discounted 1st class or one month unlimited classes. I started with class packs but quickly shifted to unlimited classes - and have enjoyed dropping in whenever I have the time. Though you need to pre-register for classes, I’ve never had problems getting into classes I’ve been interested in. Perhaps this is due to a post-COVID slowdown, but this has been the case even as folks have been more out and about. So - clearly, I’m a fan of aUM Yoga! I’d highly recommend anyone - novices and experts, students and townies - check out this warm community.
Sasha Hill: Jessie is a really great instructor and the pace of the sessions are incredible. The atmosphere is nice and encourages pushing to new limits
Isabel Schneider: aUM yoga is great! I took the beginner VinYin with Lillian and she was great! It was an easy flow to catch on to for beginners and I really enjoyed her class. I will definitely be going back in the future.
Claire Buckley: Very good environment for both beginners and well practiced yogis!
Bria Graham: I can't stress enough how much I love this studio! I mostly take yoga classes. They are challenging, it's nice to get a little variation, depending on which instructor you get, and the studio is absolutely beautiful. The staff is so friendly, the place is really clean and comfortable and get ready to SWEAT!
Samantha Howden: The environment, faculty, and space are overwhelmingly supportive and welcoming. As a beginner, I was nervous about not being able to keep up, but the pace of the class is just fast enough to provide momentum for your flow while not feeling stressful. Yoga is a really beneficial way of recentering and connecting with yourself, especially when done with aUM Yoga.
Joe Hertler: Made a recent move to Ann Arbor - and after making a post on Instagram asking for yoga studio referrals, it was made clear to me that Aum Yoga was the place to check out.I travel a lot for a living and have been to quite a few yoga studios since I started practicing a little over a year ago. Aum yoga easily stands with the best of them! Jessie, the teacher and owner, is super pro. Engaged, enthusiastic, and very clear. She’s clearly someone who has funneled a lifetime of experience and passion into what has become a thriving business. She thanked everyone by their first names upon the class’s conclusion. Was an impressive (and appreciated) touch.I’ve stumbled into many big city (and big money) studios, often beautifully lavish with a particular zen sterility. But you can kinda tell when there’s a real community behind a local yoga business - and a healthy community starts with great leadership!People were super friendly, too. Yoga studios can be a bit cliquey sometimes - and it’s always a nice feeling to be welcomed.Anyhow, I’m relatively new to Yoga, but I’m excited to begin a new chapter in Ann Arbor. Just signed up for a month unlimited and am looking forward to advancing my practice and making some new friends!More info:The class was heated to about 80-85 degrees. I usually prefer 90-98, personally. Though, I was told that they turn down the heat when a pole class follows a yoga class, but otherwise most of classes are heated. If you’re looking for a 103 bikram, you’ll probably wanna check out someplace else. The room was spacious, super clean, and overlooks downtown. Vinyasas were instructed/lead for about 2/3rds of the set, with the final third being free form. Some core work and meditation followed the final vinyasa.Highly recommending Aum Yoga!
Christopher White: I am so lucky to have found aUM Yoga! This studio is amazing. Jessie, Chelsea, and all the other instructors are so welcoming, and are very passionate about what they do. The studio is always clean and is a positive environment in which to practice. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate and call aUM their home. I highly recommend aUM for a great place to practice, and for Yoga Teacher Training. I was fortunate enough to complete the program they offered this past fall. It was an amazing and invaluable experience!
Stephanie Taylor: These people...this space....the practice will change your world! This studio makes the world a little brighter, stronger, and calmer. You will love it
Emily Presley: Jessie L. is a fantastic teacher. I have been to many yoga classes and studios in the last decade and I'd put her up there in the top 3 yoga instructors I've experienced. She is knowledgeable, upbeat and creative. I was surprised by the flow she came up with in class, and it kept me engaged and interested. I am picky about what I recommend but I'd definitely recommend this place. :)
Lauren Meyers: Positive:Professionalism,QualityAmazing experience. Staff is super friendly, I will definitely go back and take another class. Definitely recommend to everyone.
HJ Lee: Sell used, USED mats for original price. When I got there, they said I can’t take the class unless I have a mat and made me buy their used mat for $40. If there are not providing mats for rental because of covid, why would they sell them. They should have put instructions/requirement clearly on their website. Mat smells so bad and I have been getting these allergic reaction all over my body whenever I tried to use it. Going to throw it out. Terrible. Do not recommend.
Gunnar Lundteigen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityThe staff is awesome! The staff is extremely welcoming and the classes are fun! I started getting into yoga this year and I’m really excited to continue at aUM!

RED YOGA: what do users think?
Masiha Khan: The best studio I’ve been to. Always a mood booster to sweat my butt off and the community is special. Special features like infrared lighting and hot classes make this a studio I look forward to practicing at for a long time. All skill levels are welcome - a transformation awaits those who stick to it!
Elise Wheelock: This studio has changed my life. The teachers are beyond incredible and their individual personalities shine in their classes. You can find whatever you’re looking for: motivation and hype or calming and restoration. The teachers pour themselves into everything they do and have helped me become someone to whom fitness is a passion when it’s never been before.I’d like to specifically shout out Lauren, Emily, Sandra, and Pavel for helping me grow, feel safe and supported when I make mistakes, and take me from someone who didn’t know what a warrior pose was to someone who cares about yoga. I truly started from the very beginning and will always find more ways to grow.
David Van Dijcke: Class was insanely packed to a point that seemed hardly legal, let alone comfortable. Teacher taught maybe half of the time and the rest was "free flow". The flows she did teach were chaotic and made no sense, as if she'd taken a bunch of random poses and stitched them together like a Frankenstein monster. Loud random "feel-good" music playing over the hardly audible teacher. Avoid at all costs if you are looking for actual yoga. Hands down worst class I've ever attended.
Reanna Orzechowski: I LOVE Red yoga studio. The studio is hot with dim lights and a welcoming environment. The teachers are super nice!! I love their flow classes. The flows are very creative and I enjoy the fun music playing! I also really like the spirituality that each teacher adds in. I would highly recommend this ann arbor studio. My only one warning is that sometimes the classes go a little bit overtime so you have to be aware of that when you schedule your time.
Tanya Osorio-Cruz: I love this place so much. I’m getting back into yoga since taking around 5 years off and I’ve fallen in love all over again. Definitely check out the class descriptions because they’re not all great for beginners, but every single teacher I’ve talked to so far is so sweet and open and willing to help. I also love the sense of community at this studio.Updated review: Just moved back to Ann Arbor and was ready to head back to my favorite studio but it seems like there’s been a lot of changes under new ownership. No more XXX, Yinyasa, free meditation or late night classes, drop in price went up and now there’s a cycling class?! No thanks 😩 So annoyed I have to find a new studio in Ann Arbor!
Kinda May: My first experience was wonderful! The energy is spot on! Love the flow!
Michelle Ouimet: Great and clean studio with both changing areas and a shower!Red hot 26 is a spin on bikram 26 and 2, for those of you missing the hot room definitely come check out Red Yoga!Instructor is great and accommodating! This class is great for ALL levels, from beginners to advanced!
Elizabeth Henderson: Pavel is a wonderful guide. The studio is welcoming, clean, and warm ☀️I love it here. Feels like home Away from home
Shelley Raymond: I appreciate that RED has a variety of classes and a variety of top notch teachers. Some fast paced, some meditative. There is something for everyone. After 6 years of practicing with Pavel, I can say that sometimes his classes feel fairly easy and sometimes they are difficult. Even after the easy classes, I am amazed at how thoroughly every muscle group has been worked and how great I feel. I’m also amazed that no matter how difficult the class, being guided through effective warm-ups means that I rarely (if ever) experience sore muscles afterwards. Pavel is great at explaining the poses, the reason for the poses and where one should feel the stretch.
Kelly McGuckin: Unfortunately I wasn't very impressed with my class and the facility itself. Most people end up just changing in front because of inadequate space, which is awkward since the front windows face Liberty. They didn't know the password to their Wifi, and were unprepared when I asked to connect to it. The Hot 26 class wasn't really a workout at all, and the instructor gave little to no tips or assistance. The class also was not as described, and the room was barely warm.
David Johnson: I did a 70 mile bike ride about a week ago, a distance I've not been able to do for about the last two decades due to neck and back pain. But after three months of Red Yoga I can ride pain free. Prior to yoga, I was in pain with a ride only 5-10 miles long. Thanks for making a real difference in my life with your fantastic studio, teachers, and community. I find the energy and music super helpful in keeping me motivated. And, as a beginner it's nice feeling so welcome.
Carina Böttcher: I joined this Yoga Studio in autum last year. Ever since they are doing an outstanding job in keeping you safe while enjoying in studio hot yoga classes (wear masks, own cubicle style yoga places separated by clear plastic foils, etc.).The diversity and quality of the classes is great. I think everyone can find their preferred way of yoga here and also all of the instructors are very nice, friendly and provide detailed instructions which are easy to follow during the yoga flows.every once in a while the owner plays a gong for end if class meditation. This was a really unique experience for me and I highly recommend you check this out. Its great!
Y.F. Mei: It’s more like a fitness studio more than a yoga studio...can’t imagine that one of the teachers use hip hop music during the class...and air is not circulate at all...not my type for yoga
Aljoharah Alfayez: I'm a regular at this studio and took the teacher training this winter, it's the best yoga studio and teacher training, I highly recommend it. The instructors are the best, the community is incredible and the heated room makes such a positive difference too.
Alex Fauer: Overall vibe feels very competitive instead of being mindful and welcoming to all. If you are new to yoga or don't attend regularly it may be difficult because there is not a lot of explanation of poses or alignments. Can be difficult to keep up when it's hard to see the rest of the room (infrared light). $4 rental fee for mats when many other studios offer them for free.-
Nour Bissada: CFY AA closed down and I was looking for a similar studio to practice at. I love this studio, best place to practice hot vinyasa in AA.
Ian Stirton: Great studio. The people there make a real effort to build a community. Varying levels of difficulty depending on the teacher or the class type. Seems like the teachers really bring it when they teach. Great place to stretch your hammies and turn your brain off and tune into your inner world. 5 stars.
Nicole: YTT 200 hour at Red Yoga was an amazing experience. I have been practicing yoga for well over 10 years and have practiced at several studios; following my first hot vinyasa class, I was hooked. I chose Red for their community atmosphere, challenging vinyasa classes, and their commitment to exploring the philosophy and roots of yoga as more than just a "work out." Most teachers at the studio have some role in teaching the students, giving us a wide range of knowledge to take with us on our journey. If you chose Red for your 200 hour YTT, just know that it's more than just the physical yoga poses - it's about building a foundation of mindfulness, meditation, community and way of life.
Mikako Martin: I initially signed up for teacher training at Red to simply learn more about Yoga however the experience involved so much more than just that. Teacher training taught me to really embrace all aspects of yoga, not just the physical. It really is ‘life training’ in a way because all the lessons I learned in YTT were so applicable in my everyday life as well as on my mat. I was able to strengthen many relationships in my life, including the one I have with myself. Also, I could have never anticipated finding such a beautiful and warm community that is RED! By having such incredible teachers lead the group I always felt like I was in amazing hands and had someone I could comfortably go to when I needed help. Each teacher was so different which gave me a plethora of perspectives on each topic we covered. Most importantly, I felt pushed out of my comfort zone yet heavily supported every single step of the way. One of the best decisions I have ever made - I would recommend YTT to anyone who is interested because it’s for everyone.
sydney goodwin: I am completely in love with this place, I have been struggling with anxiety for so long and this is my safe haven. The teachers are amazing there is so much energy all around. Heidi and Kelli are amazing they really get you to let go of whatever you are holding onto. I also did the Yoga teacher training there as well and it helped me with not only to have a better practice but I ended up reflecting on myself, such an amazing journey. This community is so welcoming and one of a kind. I truly don't know what I would do without them.
Jaclynn Spryshak: Incredible. As a regular here and recent Red YTT graduate, I can say that I was pushed beyond what I thought I could ever do in each class and throughout the training. Each teacher here is encouraged to be an individual in their careers and their classes, and that really shows in the quality of instruction here. The YTT was fast and furious - I would *highly* recommend the Intensive as a second training, but if you're coming in without prior experience (as with any intensive), know that it moves very fast and you will need to commit a lot of time to mastering the material. However, I saw each trainee grow significantly during our month together, and it was a powerful, enriching experience for all of us. You will redefine what "possible" means for you.Beautiful teachers here of every walk of life, willing to meet you where you're at and push you (with love!) to where you want to go. Amazing community of students, from UM and of all ages and levels, who show up ready to grow alongside you. Also, there are free mints at the front desk so you really can't lose :D

Ann Arbor School of Yoga: what do users think?
Carol Lawrence: Best Yoga school ever
Robert: I had a great experience here. I attended a Level I class, and found the instruction very thorough, detailed, and specific about how to get in, stay in, and get out of poses. The method uses props to support poses. With instruction I was able to get into some of the people-pleasing inversion poses (shoulder stand), with props. Above all, I felt the teaching was controlled and the learning was safe. I have done yoga for many years, and in other studios with less attention and focus on method injured myself. This felt more like a learning experience than an aggressive or intense fitness class. After the class I felt great. The studio was very clean, and luxuriously appointed. The wall ropes system was elegant. I look forward to using them in another class. Love ropes... don’t know if the are used for Level 1 here or not. The teacher has been doing and teaching yoga for decades, and is a warm, approachable, skilled teacher. The vibe of the studio was friendly school with a sense of community.
Alanah Haskin: Highly recommend this studio. Laurie's years of experience show when she is teaching. Becca and Dave are awesome as well! All teachers can lead small classes and with equal competency handle larger classes. Anyone looking to learn yoga and see good results in their practice should come to this studio.
Elena Ermak: I have been studying yoga with Laurie Blakeney for almost two decades. Laurie never stops surprising her students with her creativity, expertise, and uniqueness. We are truly blessed to have such a gem here in Ann Arbor!
Trudi Levine: I come from NYC and was in the changing room at the Iyengar institute and said I was coming to Ann Arbor...Immediately someone said I HAD to go one of Laurie's classes....Great recommendation as Laurie is a wonderful Iyengar teacher who designs each class purposefully and is attentive to all participants to assure proper alignment . I will go whenever I am in town and our schedules mesh.
Dunrie Greiling: Laurie is a wonderfully clear and precise teacher. She sets an example of studentship by traveling to India annually to study (usually the month of December). Her studio is well-equipped and clean. You do not bring your own props. She has improved my practice and my life.
Kathryn Leech: Laurie offers wonderful instruction for new and experienced students. Her knowledge of yoga practice and teaching is already extraordinary but she never stops learning. (She studies for a month with the Iyengar family in India every year and when she returns she has even more to offer than before she left.)Iyengar yoga is precise and detailed but Laurie doesn’t overwhelm us with too much at once. She realizes that each of us experiences the poses in our unique ways. Instead of having us only *do* the poses, she helps us focus our minds on what is happening with us individually as we experience them. We often repeat the same pose multiple times in class. For the first few times she directs our attention to various aspects of the pose. But then she asks us to concentrate on an aspect of our choice, often asking the class to state examples of what those aspects might be. In this way, she teaches us to direct our own practices. If you want to practice yoga every day, including at home, her class is a marvelous jumping-off point. She never gives exactly the same class twice because she teaches the students who are in front of her right then, with all of our varied needs. However, she gives each week a distinct focus so any class that you attend that week will have that focus. If you are curious about what yoga is, and want to try it, or if you already know something and want to know more, or if you already know a lot and want to go deeper – this is the place to be.
Michal samuel: The best yoga teacher in town.Very experienced, knowledgeable, creative. No two classes are alike. Real master in adjusting the class and the asanas to her students abilities and challenges.Somewhat strict.Get over it if you really want to practice yoga in depth.

Mota Thai Yoga: what do users think?
Fadilat Olasupo: My experience with the owner of Mota Thai Yoga was beyond disappointing. I contacted them to inquire about a refund for classes I had previously purchased, and in response, the owner, Luiz, proceeded to yell at me over the phone before abruptly banning me and blocking my number without a reason. After the call, I decided to confront the owner in-person. He stated that he felt a need to "protect" his studio and members, which implies that I wasn't worth protecting despite attending a few classes. Although he eventually agreed to issue a credit for the “misunderstanding,” the owner did not offer any apology for his unprofessional behavior.I was left feeling belittled and disrespected, and I cannot in good conscience recommend this studio to anyone. It's crucial that people understand that the owner appears to selectively choose who he values and wishes to "protect," which is unacceptable. A simple “no refunds accepted” would have sufficed, but for some reason I was treated like scum. While I did have positive experiences with certain instructors, like Yael and Dani G, the owner's actions has left a bitter aftertaste that taints my perception of the studio as a whole. In my opinion, businesses should prioritize professionalism and customer service, and Mota Thai Yoga failed to meet these expectations.Being a Black woman, I was deeply concerned about this situation, as it appeared to be discriminatory. It's vital for businesses to treat every customer with respect and fairness, irrespective of their ethnicity or race. It's disheartening to observe numerous positive reviews, but my personal experience was incredibly terrible.
Tim Woods: Some of the best staffing for this yoga studio and is real nice inside . This place is on the small side and can get full of people so its a good idea to make your reservation. The staff always accomodates their patron with assistance to a spot on the floor. Check this one out! It's worth a try. It hot in here year round , up to 90 degrees so dress accordingly.
T TOMASI: This Unique studio has something for everyone (and free parking). Saturday morning yoga is always on my schedule, but they have classes every day! Most hot classes are done on your mat and towels are recommended. But there are other classes that use a set of “silk” fabric hanging from the ceiling to assist and target certain poses💪🏽Most of all it is FUN (ex:Friday nights) and exactly where you need to be🌈
Catherine Gottschalk: I love this yoga studio, and the yoga teachers are great ! | Me encanta este estudio de yoga, las clases son muy buenas ;)
Anna McAtee: The most friendly, supportive, and healing yoga studio in Ann Arbor!
Colette Pratt: I have been taking classes since Mota Thai Yoga opened. Luiz Mota, the owner, is an expert teacher and businessman. He reads the room of students and presents a class specifically to meet the needs of those attending. That includes challenging his yoga students as well as maintaining their safety. Luiz insures that he knows his students health and history of injuries so he can guide them appropriately. As a businessman and owner he has trained the other teachers personally, and they are outstanding! I enjoy Luiz’s teaching and feel safe and comfortable with all the teachers at Mota Thai Yoga. I highly recommend the variety of class options, and excellent, experienced teachers!
Deb Axelrood: If you’re looking for a great yoga workout, Mota Thai Yoga studio is the place to get in shape. Attending the hot yoga classes, I am able to get a great workout without injury, as muscles are warmed up when practicing more challenging yoga positions. I also find the music energizing and atypical of other yoga studios.
my: I moved to LA where there are yoga studios galore, and I still miss this one
Ann Arbor Heart: Mota Thai Yoga is "THE" place to go for a beautiful and unique holistic yoga experience. Luiz and his professional staff are very kind, highly trained and certified to help guide you on your own personal journey with yoga. As soon as you walk in the door, Yael will make you feel at home! It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or at Instructor level, you will feel safe and at ease here. I love the "low lights", non-competitive environment, Silks and Restorative yoga class offerings, massage offering, and great location (with free parking). Most importantly though, these are very good people here. They care about you as a "whole" person. Mota Thai Yoga is the best! You will love it!
Elisabeth Purkis: Never done yoga with silks before but it was an adventure that I would definitely repeat. Felt super supple at the end. Lovely friendly atmosphere.
Kara Painter: I very rarely write a review but Mota Thai Yoga definitely deserves 5 stars. I am relatively new to yoga and the staff made me feel so welcome and comfortable. I had back surgery 10 years ago and taking yoga classes at Mota Thai has kept my pain at a minimum. The atmosphere in the studio is calming and peaceful. I can't recommend enough to someone looking to take Yoga classes in the Ann Arbor area.
Henry Walters: Very welcoming environment
Shaina Mahler: Can't say enough good things about Mota Thai. It's like no other yoga studio I’ve ever been to. I think practicing here is already changing my life for the better, and I've only been to 5 classes. A beautiful space with great teachers.

Deborah Kloska: Great, inviting place. My husband, daughter and I have been attending classes at FitPoint since it opened. Dominika and staff are welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. It is obvious that all the instructors are well-trained and love what they do -- and they love helping you reach your goals. I have learned so much about fitness working with them. In the group classes, there is individual attention to ensure the exercises are done correctly and modifications are made when necessary. The variety of classes offered and the varying times means there is something that fits in all of our schedules. There are monthly challenges that encourage clients to try something new or work toward a specific goal (like 1000 lunges in a month!) Check out the schedule of group classes and try a few - try the personal training - sign up for nutrition counseling to be sure you are getting what you need to fuel your body. Come to FitPoint. You won't find another place like it!
Joy X: I like the small class setting and the fact that most instructors are dedicated and passionate about what they do . However, I am a working mom who has a busy schedule and wasn’t in town for the past few months . I just found out my package will expire . And the owner is willing to extend it . Thanks !
Steve Glauberman: FitPoint is the best studio I have ever trained at. Dominika and her staff are incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and very tuned to each client's needs. You won't be disappointed!
Selena B.: All of the staff at FitPoint are personable, hospitable, and excellent instructors. They call you by name and treat you like family whether you've been there a day or a year. They offer several packages for any lifestyle or budget (and they offer challenges you can partake in to get discounts). They provide classes at various times and days to accommodate your schedule. The facility and equipment are both always clean and kept up too (no musky gym smell). My favourite class so far has been CycleYoga with Miranda; it's a half hour on the bike, and a half hour on the mat. It's a prefect blend of cardio and strength.
carol booth: Dominika and her instructors really took care of me and made me feel like an individual. Beautiful studio great equipment and lovely people!
Elayne Fivenson: I began classes at FitPoint a few months ago and I can’t say enough positive things about this place! I joined along with my parents, who are both in their late fifties and have various back and joint problems. We all have been able to find classes at FitPoint that match our fitness needs and comfort level. The instructors are energetic and knowledgeable. The class variety is great and the space is very clean.
Kathy Legatski: I love the individual attention with instructors who are top rate! This is a fitness studio that delivers what the big clubs cannot deliver!
Michele Forbes: What a fantastic place!!! The space is clean and inviting, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the classes are challenging yet fun. I am a long distance runner who was looking for well-rounded, difficult classes. My husband was looking for a good workout in a comfortable space. We both found what we are looking for! The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. A wide variety of classes is offered, including classes for kids and families! Fitpoint is our new workout destination for the entire family!
Travis Martin: The staff are very knowledgeable, motivating, and welcoming.

Tiny Buddha Yoga: what do users think?
Emma Golub: I fell in love with yoga at TBY. I joined during a challenging period in my life and TBY classes were tremendously helpful. The instructors are phenomenal at both leading students through the physical poses and imparting yoga wisdom for greater mental well-being. I had never done hot yoga before joining TBY; now I don't want to do yoga unless it's hot. TBY is the best -- I can't recommend it more highly.
Anna Schafer: Tiny Buddha is the best! All of the teachers are immensely knowledgeable, have fantastic music, creative flows, and cultivate positive, welcoming energy for every class!!
Melissa Porter: There's a reason this studio consistently wins "best of" Ann Arbor every year! Amazing teachers, great music, real yoga. I've been going to TBY since it opened 8 years ago, and I always leave feeling better than I did before I walked in (physically and mentally). Don't hesitate to check it out!
Cate Burns: Risa and all the TBY teachers are incredible. They are all skilled and knowledgeable, teaching all 8 limbs of yoga. The studio is welcoming and bright. The branding of YBY is excellent— I love the merch. Thanks TBY crew!
Jorge Cisneros: This is my favorite yoga studio in Ann Arbor. All the teachers are very friendly and welcoming. There is a large selection of classes and times. I especially like the playlists the teacher make for the classes. Best part is you have the option between Pauline and campus studio.I have been doing the virtual classes lately and they are amazing. The teachers do a good job checking on you to see if you need any assistance. I also recently did my first yin restorative class and it was excellent, I don't know what I have been doing my whole life, but this was something that was seriously missing.
Micah Warschausky: The first yoga class I ever took was Ashtanga with Sarah. I came in heavy, completely out of shape, and unable to touch my toes. Despite all that, I had an amazing experience. The class was challenging and I was unable to properly do most of the poses, but Sarah found a way to seamlessly suggest small modifications in rhythm that allowed me to get so much out of the experience without making me feel bad about myself, and more importantly, without detracting from the experience of others. I'll be back next Monday for sure!
john smith: avoid tiny buddha they play loud music outside and disturb apartments and all surrounding houses.they might have inside work as well but i do not know of that.they are in a residential neighborhood and have the gall of playing music.;... no one else does for hours on end sometimes multiple times a day
Sarah Ackenhusen: I've only been going to Tiny Buddha Yoga for about a month, but I love it! Staff is extremely knowledgeable, and definitely deserve their Best-Yoga-Studio-in-Washtenaw rating! As a beginner, the Ashtanga classes fit best for me, as they're fully lead, but even in couple of Vinyasa classes I've tried I felt like I could explore my practice without the pressure to do things perfectly. It's definitely on the more expensive side, but worth it! The teachers do their best to give you corrections without over-correcting, and challenge you to do your best. Highly recommend.
Jessica Rilly: Great studios in Ann Arbor!TBY is a wonderful community of teachers and practitioners. I was relatively new to yoga when I started here and felt welcomed and accepted where I was in my practice. TBY has a really nice variety of classes, something for every mood. I learned Ashtanga yoga here and the practice and community has really improved my quality of life!
Rebecca Miller-Bernick: Tiny Buddha is a gem of a yoga studio! Classes are challenging and thoughtful. The teachers here are supportive and excellent at helping you through class.
Sarah Temby: Warm and inviting space. Great variety of classes with knowledgeable teachers. Convenient locations.
Danielle Poisson: I absolutely love this studio! I've been going since August of last year and can honestly say i've never had a negative experience. I had never done Ashtanga before and once I took the short form class with Risa I was hooked! I came to TB with very little knowledge of yoga, and loved how many different opportunities were offered for me to learn. If you truly want to learn about yoga, this is the place.
Paij Johnson: A nice space, but I went in for my first ever ashtanga class, respectfully trying to expand my practice. The instructor was extremely rude and asked me to dismiss myself because the practice was “too much for my western mindset”. After that I looked up their certification and found out they’ve only spent one month in India to study the practice. Get off the egotistical mindset and open your doors to people trying to better themselves.
Brett G: I've been practicing for years but just took my first class at THIS studio. So far, so good! Clean and inviting studio, helpful staff, good and compassionate teacher with fun flows. Music was a good selection and good volume level. There were a good number of other students, giving the room plenty of energy. I do wish that they had a shower, but out of luck on that front.
Derrek Miller: It's all good
Yaya LCB: Don't believe the hype! I wasn't impressed with the Campus location yoga studio. The studio is extremely small (only 3 windows facing the street) which makes it challenging to move with a full class, which it was in my case. Sadly, I had to be mindful throughout class to not completely stretch out my arms or legs to the side to avoid bumping someone. I've been taught that important or key aspects of yoga were freeing the mind and freedom of movement. Regrettably, I didn't get that at Tiny Buddha, hence the name, "Tiny." Also, the instructors I practiced with (at the time I didn't know one of them was the owner) just took me through the motions (asanas) no in depth teaching about the poses or the nature of yoga, just movement and breathe. Yoga is not just about posing and breathing techniques, it's a system of beliefs that are intended to guide your daily way of life. So, for me, three attempts and I'm done. However, if you're interested in a place that just emphasizes movement (limited because of space) and breathe, then this is the place for you.
Hanna Hoover: The instructors focus on fast flashy sequences rather than letting you sink into a posture, feeling it out, working on building strength and stability. I thought the ability level of the class would have benefited from less asanas and more alignment cues. It's not worth going to the classes in the tent as they are not properly heated or lighted. I did enjoy the creativity of the flows.
Amanda Hessling: Clean studios but not safe teaching practice, in my opinion, and I found the owner to be aggressive and outright rude. Many of the instructors played the music so loud it busted ear drums and it felt more like a superficial, high-energy, ridiculously hot gymnastics workout than a soothing, spiritual yoga class. Some of the Ashtanga classes are worth it tho.
shamoli khanderia: Very inviting yoga studio with a great mix of clients, including both non-students and students. I appreciate this as many studios in Ann Arbor cater primarily to the large student population. Lots of class times and easy parking but the amazing teachers are what keep me going back.
Elizabeth Laciura Emiley: serene little yoga sanctuary in the west side of Ann Arbor. i come for the amazing alignment-focused yoga and stay for the beautiful community Tiny Buddha Yoga attracts.
Tom Beedon: I’ve been here for a week from out of town and have been searching for the perfect yoga practice. I’ve been to four different studios before I tried Tiny Buddha and now I know where I’ll go next time I’m in town. I have never done hot yoga prior but I do have a fairly strong practice and was a little worried but this was perfect! The teacher was friendly and welcoming (I guess you’d expect that anyway from a yogi!) and the class was strong, fast paced and I sweat a ton just like I love it. Tip: bring a towel! Thanks so much for an awesome practice!
