Z Brooks: Every time I’m in the store no one seems happy or welcoming at all, today that changed. The lovely cashier who had her first day today was so welcoming and polite. Hopefully the other workers pick up that from her. Maybe it’s because I have an alternative look that people don’t care to be friendly but she was a rockstar!!

John Crankshaw: I don’t go often to this store — my Spring visit is to buy a giant pot to place at a local grave I decorate. They always have them. Inside the store you’ll find a renowned butcher case that a come to a few times during the summer for bbq meats, sausages and other goodies. They have also an olive bar and cheese case. Also nice produce and specialty packaged food items. And much, much, much more.

Kari Hicks: This place is such a gem! My fiancé and I are both foodies, and love to cook, and this is our go-to store for inspiration. As soon as you walk in you’re hit with delicious smells, and the mesmerizing wall of chocolate covered goodies, and candies. The best part is the fantastic meat counter! Friendly, outstanding service every time. Hands down, the BEST homemade breakfast sausage links around, a variety of jerky sticks, huge stuffed pork chops, and if they have the whole smoked chickens, grab one! I was also thrilled to find Cavendish & Harvey hard candies from Germany…a favorite of mine from my childhood. We also love the selection of individually wrapped buns/croissants, and cake slices from Sugar Momma’s Bakery.

Justin: I went here to quickly grab a head of lettuce and one tomato and left paying almost $6! The tomato wasn't fresh and the single head of basic lettuce was $5.00!!! I have NEVER paid more than $3.00 (and that's expensive) for a head of lettuce, let alone $5.00... I used to love coming here for their meat market in the back, but this is just plain getting ripped off, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I do understand that smaller stores are typically more expensive, but paying 60-70% more for something so basic is a tad absurd. Can't say I will shop here again unfortunately.

Madhumita Gaat: The staff members are constantly distracted and unwilling to help customers out. Most of them have their heads buried in their phones. They hardly ever show any kind of enthusiasm in terms of greeting the customers and have a generally unfriendly and condescending attitude. The store has a decent variety of Indian and Nepali grocery item brands, but not well-organized, so it gets tough to locate the items I really need without assistance. I will not be going here again.

This is an amazing feat, because I live on the NE side. They take great care of their takeout packaging as well. They use tin foil to keep the food warm. Every single time I have been here except for one, this is what I've ordered. It's two fried pork chops smothered in their beef gravy, which is made in-house. Absolutely delicious. Very flavorful. These will definitely make you hurt yourself from over-eating if you're not careful. Definitely like how mama used to make!𝐌𝐚𝐜 '𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞I'm very picky with most mac 'n cheese. It reminds me of Kraft Instant Mac 'n Cheese if it's not done right. This has not been one of those times. Their baked mac 'n cheese is made with cavatappi noodles, which is a perfect vessel for their cheese sauce. Also comes topped with bread crumbs. Absolutely delicious. It is definitely home cooked.𝐋𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬This is definitely a must-try dish! Honestly, between this and the mac 'n cheese, I would come here just for those two things. Their loaded mash comes with a house blend of cheeses and then it is topped off with bacon, and then baked in the oven! The mashed potatoes are creamy while the cheese and bacon is not overpowering. A great side to any meal they offer.𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬These were not my favourite, but to no fault of the cooks! The chicken was very juicy and it fell off the bone because it was so tender. I just think the seasoning isn't my forte.𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠I really liked this! It is made with house-made chicken broth and then toasted. The only thing missing from that is a side of gravy! Yum.𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬The portion sizes here are absolutely HUGE! I usually have one meal last me all day and still have enough for a second day if I can restrain myself from eating it all in one sitting. Their cornbread (which you get with every meal) is really tasty and it reminds me of having dessert. You get all of your drinks from a standard 12oz can, which I love. It's name-branded as well. For water, they give you some of the best; Ice Mountain Spring Water. If I had the money, I would totally buy from Great Giant Supermarket every single day. Hats off to the chefs, keep on cooking because it's some of the best soul food in Grand Rapids!

Stevie Smith: Ordered off of Great Giant Soul Food Town on DoorDash today, and I’ll definitely be keeping these folks in mind when it comes to soul food.I wasn’t aware that this was an in-supermarket hot food counter until I went to write this review. I would have never expected this quality level of food out of a counter kitchen. Very, very tasty.Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for an affordable meal, will have to try the more traditional soul food offerings next time!
