Kent County Animal Shelter: what do users think?
Khai Le: This is my first time calling Kent County Animal Control for a dog that seemed neglected. Spoke with Autumn over the phone and was so kind. She said they will send an officer right away to do a welfare check. 20 minutes later saw the animal control on our street. Incredible response time and followed up with me that the owner is going to work on getting a shelter outside. Wish it was better circumstances (dog living inside the home) but at least it was something. Very pleasant first time experience with animal control.
Elizabeth Potts: I adopted a beagle today we named her Cookie. It was a pleasant experience the worker was very helpful with helping us choose the right dog for us.
Harry Haight: We found our new fur baby Chuck(Loki) and he is really a great dog.
Melissa Lucio: Friendly & knowledgeable!
Kc Dann: I like the atmosphere here. Ladies seem nice. It's sad that animals get left here, at least they are being weel looked after.
Lisa Wills: Easy to navigate site and the cutest animals just waiting to be adopted!
Mary Karrip: So helpful!!
Dolly Only me: People here literally angels they save my dog very grateful
Connie Marie: Great staff, awesome animals, of course. Adopt a pet today!
Danielle Smith: Just looking for a lost cat.
Mikel Rodriguez: Love it here
kristin Ellens: Nope. Don't even get me started.
Tim Popma: With having a number of things, from having to put down few dogs in the past few yrs, we decided to to donate our good used things to the Animal Shelter. As well as some new things we decided to pick up. They are always in need of things to help the pets in their facility.
Joy Putnam: I really didn't like that you couldn't walk through to look at the animals. You now have to read a description about them on a 3x5 card and then ask to see the one(s) you'd like a closer look at. Very time-consuming. By walking through you get a sense of an animal before you meet with them. I was told that it's so the dogs in this case don't get all worked up with people walking through. But when I was there, there were at least 5 workers going in and out of the kennels which had they same effect as if I went through. I really don't see the difference. I met with one dog that, if I had seen in the kennel, I would have k ow wasn't right. I didn't meet with any others after that because I was so frustrated. I may go back because I know so many good animals need loving homes, I'd hate to have one miss out because of the humans running the place.
Josepha Ali: I as well as others have contacted Kent County NUMEROUS times about 2 dogs who are left OUTSIDE every day ALL day @ Wolven Ave. Rockford,Mi.These dogs are left out IN BELOW FREEZING TEMPS. ALL WINTER & in the rain SOAKING WET!!!! NOT ONCE has kent County responded! These dogs Can NOT ASK FOR HELP!! Are pleas are going unheard! These dogs are being NEGLECTED! THIS IS CRUEL! Tell those owners to go outside with no coat, Nothing in below freezing weather or the rain all day see if they like it! How about ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING NOTHING @KENT COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL/SHELTER GO OUTSIDE, YOU & YOUR KIDS WITH NO COATS IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER TRY it! Oh wait you wouldn't let your kids go outside in freezing, raining weather, but the animals its okay?!! GTFOH DO SOMETHING!!!
Jordan Crisman: So kind and loving to the animals and they care for them.
Nancy Gilbert: They help so many animals and find them homes. Thank you guys for what you do.
Tanya M. Gonzales: Friendly and kind
Chris Meyer: Brought hook home today. Very playful and loving cat. Has already made himself at home. Shelter did good job with getting the cats ready for adoption and the necessary paperwork for future vet visits.
Tammy Oaks: They are VERY KIND and wonderful 😊😊😊😊 people there....
ian zachary: I owned for 7 years was aggressive out of the blue while being told no snapped at me and tried to bite me. When I called about euthanasia the advice I was given by the animal control people was that my dog was just guarding resources or scared this is the stupidest most ridiculous thing I have ever heard as advice. it is an aggressive dog it should be questioned thanks so much for your help.

Crash's Landing: what do users think?
Brittany Wilson: A great place for rescued strays!
Jennifer Boelema: Dr Jen is theeeee best! All of her heart and soul she pours in to helping these kitties. I very much enjoy spending time with the kitties. If I could adopt them all, they'd go he with me tomorrow! If you are in ever in the hunt for an amazing cat, these cats have some of the cutest personalities! Always adopt, don't shop! Help the world. Save a kitty.
Becky G: Very well cared for cats. This place is designed to be a kitty haven
Jo Jo: Crash's Landing knew that a cat belonged to my neighbor and purposely adopted the cat out within the week to another person when the owner contacted them. The owner had no opportunity to take care of their cat when he was hurt because another person took him and refused to give the rightful owner his location. My husband works for the vet that the neighbor has used with her animals for years and can speak for the level of care she gave each of her animals and infromed Crash's Landing about the situation. This still wasn't enough for Crash's Landing to do the right thing and make sure reunification happened. The staff also talked to my neighbor in an extremely disrespectful way. What Crash's Landing has done is unethical.
Mary Roe: Wonderful and caring staff
Lisa Phillips: Great new facility to take care of the cats in the rescue. Love all the cat bird seats by the windows and all the feeders to entertain them. The staff did a great job on their open house and were warm and welcoming.
Brittany Allen: They adopted out a pet knowing he belonged to someone else. Our neighbor who has a connection to this shelter brought our other neighbor's cat here. They fixed a wound on his face and took care of him, but when they were told he belonged to someone, they adopted him out anyway. The owners, us and other neighbors contacted Crash's Landing to let them know this cat was owned already. We provided pictures and information. We were told they wouldn't adopt him out until they could sort this out and they did anyway knowing full well from numerous people he had owners already. He was taken by this neighbor under the pretense they were going to take care of the wound and he would be given back. Whenever their owner would ask this "colleague" of the shelter about Jack, she was given misleading information and wouldn't give her any answers. The owners went to this colleague's house several times to get info and was given the runaround. Us neighbors finally pulled our resources together and found out where he was. The neighbors lied to the owner and she never had a chance to claim him. They adopted him out without even giving his owners a chance to get him back. In a pretty condescending and rude email from one of the doctors there, they said that this should serve as some sort of teaching lesson for the owner's granddaughter who is in pre-school, and had nothing to do with anything. It was beyond tacky and insulting. The doctor, Dr. Jennifer, also included a link to a law regarding what is considered a stray. It doesn't apply when a pet is stolen and it's location is being concealed. Anyone on the Westside with a cat, make sure it's microchipped, otherwise the neighborhood Karen will steal it and take it here to be adopted out regardless of owners submitting every single piece of info they asked for.
Chris Start: I adopted my Manilow from here great place
Laura Jakel: Wonderful sanctuary helping at risk kitties be healthy and find forever homes.
Ron Lourigan: What a Great Place! Wonderful caring people saving so many nice kitties. Congratulations on the beautiful new facility.
Aaron Dull: They have amazing cats and will work with you too find the perfect companion.
Teresa: You could not find a better place to get your furever friends. The volunteers and Dr Jen are amazing!! They truly care about the kitties you can just tell when you step inside the building. I got my last two kitties there and would not go anywhere else. Dr Jen saved our girl Wendy after she suddenly got sick this summer and I will forever be grateful of that, she is a amazing vet and person.
Michelle VanAllsburg: Wonderful and caring people.
Keith Remelts: Great cause! You can donate your cans to them! I love that!
Michelle Prins: Best shelter in Michigan!!! I love this place. Super clean and great volunteers.
nathan holstrom: Absalutly the best people!! And their layout and care for these animals is absalutly amazing! We visited to plan an adoption for a chonky lovey fur baby named Roland. The facility is top notch and highly recommend adopting from them!!
A “The Administrator” H: I just started volunteering there and this place is great! It's set up like a home and the cats are free roaming. Only caged temporarily if recovering from surgery or something like that. They receive excellent care and oh my gosh, every single one of the cats are so sweet! Volunteers are vetted heavily so I can only assume thesame for potential adopters, so you can feel confident they are going to good homes. Can't wait to go back!
Rachel Britton: Such an amazing place to find your new best friend! The staff is very caring about the cats and keeping the environment clean and inviting for visitors. Volunteering is really fun too, highly recommend!
Jamie Groom: Great place to find an adult kitty needing a home. They have such a wonderful habitat for the cats - makes a house look so boring!!! It was a bit overwhelming to me, as I wasn't used to meeting cats that were on all levels of the room - most which couldn't have cared less I was there. Happy cats!! They are definitely not begging to leave.
Amanda Wells: This place was an amazing little shelter with kitties in every nook and cranny! The staff knew all the kitties so well and we were very impressed. They helped us pick out the right addition to our family and I highly recommend them! There are lots of babies here who need furever homes go check it out! Also our current kitties were very pleased with the kick sticks and toys we bought that were homemade here!

Michele's Rescue: what do users think?
Ericka Swedberg: Friendly volunteers, thorough application and easy process. They love what they do. Would definitely adopt from them again.
Robert and Barbara Smith: My granddaughter helped me find a young cat to keep me company. It took her a couple of days to come out of hiding to get to know me and her new home. Now she's my cuddle-buddy. The name "Raya", didn't feel right, so now I call her Sweet Pea.
Penny Patterson: The adoption went very smooth. Appreciate all the work done by Michele’s Rescue and the foster family!
Nicole French: Such a great adoption experience - they provided all the vaccinations and spayed our little one and got her microchipped before we took her home. Very friendly foster home too. Thanks for the sweet fuzzy nugget. We got her a friend to play with. 😍
Patricia Orcasitas: Michelle’s Rescue worked so well for us, and we are so blessed to have “Sugar Bear” as part of our family. When it comes time to adopt our next fur kid, we definitely plan to go to them again. Loving this puppy love !!!
Cheryl Howard: Michele’s rescue makes the process of adopting so easy. Their approval process is thorough but, but efficient. They respond to questions quickly via email and are very helpful throughout the adoption.
Roberta Atkins: Drake and I are still adjusting to each other. He is relaxing more and more each day.
Eric Steindler: Our experience was fantastic and we're enjoying our two new family members!
Brian E: I had a great experience with Michele’s Rescue. They did a great job and or organizing the events and offering some free goodies for the new puppy. They are doing great work for animals in need. I would highly recommend them.
Diane Davidson: I adopted two kittens from Michelle’s Rescue. It has been a wonderful experience!! They worked with me to get the perfect kitties! I absolutely love them💕.
Charissa Velazquez: Very easy to work with and the process was seamless.
brianna lewis: Everyone is truly nice and helpful they truly care!
William Lyons: She said in another response that we said we had an appointment. We never said that. An employee said to follow her inside, which I did. The website doesn't state anything about being her personal home. She immediately started yelling at my family and me for leaving her door open. I was just letting them in behind me when we were asked to follow said employee. This person is extremely unpleasant to deal with. We are animal lovers, and I've typically found people like us to be kind and welcoming. I would advise against having any interactions with Michele.*response to last entry-I was asked if I was there for a pickup. I stated that I wasn't. I feel the one star review was completely warranted. After being instructed to follow you inside, I patiently waited at the top of the stairs with my family in tow, only to hear "No no no no! We don't do adoptions. Can you close my door!" We were simply following Google which said you were an animal rescue, which lead us to believe you offered pet adoptions. We just wanted to give a dog a new home, and we were treated like we were barging into someone's house, after being invited. If we had been told otherwise beforehand we would have simply gotten in our car and left. We are nothing of not respectful, and did not deserve the treatment we received. Maybe you were just having a bad day, but the way you described how things went down is an outright lie. I was completely honest about why we were there, and didn't barge into the house. I was instructed to follow, so that is what I did. This was clearly a big misunderstanding, and you could have explained that to my wife, children, and myself with kindness, instead you chose to treat us like trespassers, and bad people. Clearly you aren't skilled at dealing with the general public. Perhaps you should state more clearly the nature of your business online so people can steer clear of your home.
Ellen Mancino: Re: The one star review posted by Olivia McBrideI am the volunteer your husband initially talked to. I apologize - I thought your husband was there to pick up one of the 9 puppies I had just transported to Michele’s home. When he said he hoped to adopt I interpreted that as our “foster to adopt” program, thus I asked him to wait by the door while I grabbed Michele. We are completely volunteer based and I don’t know everyone - so I pulled Michele away from bathing poo-covered puppies to help him. She tried to explained the rescue is foster based, this was her personal home…and then she asked him to close the door (that’s how pets escape). There was no yelling. Your family simply walked back to your vehicle when she tried to talk to you about checking out the available animals on our website and filling out an application.I honestly don’t see what the fuss is about; but it’s certainly not worth a one star bashing review of a 501(c) that we volunteers donate our time, energy and hearts to, on top of balancing work, home and family. Anyone who has spent any time with Michele knows this is her livelihood and there isn’t anyone better in animal rescue in SW Michigan.
Olivia McBride: There was a miscommunication on the website so we showed up in hopes to find a home for a new dog. This woman was incredibly rude, she was yelling at our family within seconds of us arriving. We explained the situation and her attitude didn’t get any better. I would strongly not recommend working with this business.
Melissa Corbeil: So great to work with! Got to bring my fur baby home this morning. They were super responsive and truly just want what's best for the animals. If your thinking of adopting through a rescue definitely give them a shout!
Anna Hagstrom: We had the best experience adopting our puppy with Michelle’s Rescue! Very professional and personable.
Makayla Babson: Over the phone, Valeria was completely lovely and helpful, she helped me understand the adoption process and seemed like she really cared about me adopting a kitten.Although when I went to pet smart to adopt my kitten, after my application had been completely approved and I had an appointment to meet a couple different kittens, the experience was not as great. I asked to hold the kitten I was interested in and Pat basically told me that no I couldnt because that wouldnt change who I wanted to adopt... ok so I never even got to pet the kitten I chose before I adopted him. Then after I had picked the kitten I wanted to adopt I just felt completely uncomfortable and judged by Pat while we were signing the contract. She was questioning if my cat was fixed and vaccinated... well hello, Micheles rescue has to call your vet and make sure of these things before you are even approved for adoption. I dont know if she was not having a great day or if she was looking down on me because I am a young adult.I wasnt exactly planning on adopting that day but the timing just worked out so I didnt have my cat carrier with me, I borrowed my brothers small black cage to be able to bring the kitten home with me which he has used for his cat many times before so I didnt think it was a problem but Pat was so displeased and judgemental that this is what I was going to transport my pet in that she told me she wanted me to borrow one of their cat carriers to bring my cat home and then turn around and bring it back, even after I offered to just buy one of their adoption boxes.I did not enjoy this part of the adoption. I almost felt like I shouldnt have been adopting. I had my whole lengthy application approved, they called my vet, I provided receipts from getting my current cat neutered, I provided an ESA letter. I paid $150!! I wouldnt go through all of these steps if this wasnt a cat that I was going to love and take great care of.I want to say I appreciate what Micheles rescue does, I am so glad I got to adopt from there. Communication was great at first, I dont even mind the length of the application but because of this one individual im not sure if I would adopt from there again in the future.
Dyes Dcy: Very Unprofessional.
Kristin Dennison: Do not under any circumstances give money to this rescue! The people running this are horrible. They are not doing what's best for the animals. They are playing God. Go elsewhere to adopt pets and donate money! They are crazy. We do take our cat to the vet. Our 16.5 year old dog who recently passed was vaccinated regularly. We did not threaten any staff members. Holy cow you're crazy!
Maureen Rice: Thank you Michele’s Rescue for bringing an amazing rescue puppy into my life. He’s a gem and their adoption process went very smooth.

Focus on Ferals: what do users think?
Sara W: True to their name, their focus is on the wellbeing of the cats. I adopted one cat through them and had a great experience, and they helped me get in touch with the right people when another stray found us one day who has complex medical issues. They provide a great service to the community while doing right by the animals.
Stacy Hooker: We have had an influx of strays in the area that I live in the past couple of years. I had no idea what to do and honestly felt hopeless about how to handle everything until someone online mentioned reaching out to Focus on Ferals. They have helped us with supplying traps and taking in cats getting them fixed and even finding some of them homes. I am so grateful that we have such a wonderful, knowledgable place right here in Byron Center.
Susan E: I’ve been a volunteer here for the past year, after being a patron (we fostered two cats and adopted one). I’ve never seen people more passionate about taking care of unwanted cats, and so compassionate toward them.
ruth Martin: They do a lot for cats!! Very wonderful people ❤️
Michelle Button: I found focus on ferals about a year ago or so. They have helped me tremendously. Great, caring people. I'm so glad I called them. I would calling them. If you need help. ♥️
Zachary Miedema: I adopted my cat from Focus on Ferals, such a wonderful organization. Highly recommend adopting from them. They really put the time and effort in for all the cats that they have in their system.
Jill DeGrove: I cannot say enough about the selfless leaders and volunteers at Focus on Ferals…no one is paid for what they do here. It is all done out of love for cats.A few years back, my brother had a neighbor who had many, many cats and then suddenly moved…leaving the 20+ cats behind to fend for themselves. None of these cats were spayed, neutered or vetted. They started showing up and my brother and sister-in-law’s house (and their neighbors) looking for food, shelter and care. Everyone did their best to help with feeding, trying to find homes for the cats, and so on, but things got out of control very quickly…lots of litters of kittens, etc. It was heartbreaking for the neighborhood.Focus on Ferals came out to help when no one else would. They were able to TNR many of the cats. This helped immensely. The population is now under control and the cats that remain are healthy and cared for. My brother and his family are forever grateful for this help. They cannot imagine what things would be like if they hadn’t come out to help. Being a cat lover myself, I was inspired by this.I have been volunteering at Focus on Ferals myself now for a little more than 6 months. In that time, I have seen so many miraculous recoveries of cats who had been let down by humans. These cats who were once on the streets, are now living their best lives. So many have found wonderful, loving homes because of Focus on Ferals, too. It is truly an amazing and wonderful place to support via donations, adoptions or volunteering. I’d give more than five stars if I could.
Kari Kempema: I adopted two kittens in March 2020, both from the same feral colony. I put in an adoption application for Nelson, whom I saw on-line. When FoF reached out to set up a time to meet him, I learned of his best buddy Healey (now renamed Mac)and fell in love with both. The adoption process was quick and easy beginning with the application. FoF holds a place in my heart for bringing me my boys.
Morgan Vincent: Best experience I’ve ever had with an adoption. They helped me pick the best cat for me and he is perfection. And I am so thankful for the work that they do! 10/10 would recommend.
Lynsey Heiss: I volunteer at fof. The cats are very well cared for and the mission even bigger than most know. The rescue goes to other high kill shelters and rescues high risk cats. They find overpopulated colonies and fix these cats and adopt out the homeable cats and give resources to feed these cats. They provide supplies to assist you in safely doing so. They take high risk cats off the streets and ensure they know love. The director has a heart of gold. It can't be easy making all these calls. But she does right by these cats. I'm in shock all the time by the decisions made here. I think if anyone has anything negative to say, they should come in and volunteer and actually learn what it is to be part of a rescue, a family. And loving on those precious kitties makes it all worth it at the end of the day. Thank you for for making me part of the group.
Alex Hardy: Best shelter I have ever experienced. They truly care about the cats, and go the extra mile to ensure their well-deserved comfort. It’s rare to find a no-kill shelter that welcomes FIV cats and cats with medical needs.
Kayla sherwood: I adopted 2 cats from FOF in 2018. In 2020 I started volunteering with them. It has been amazing to see the passion and will to help cats who would otherwise not have a chance. The dedication of this team, that is 100% volunteers, is like no other. The attention, care, and love of all of the cats truly goes above and beyond.
Nav tho: I attempted to reach out to this "resource"  for stray cats, called "focus on ferals", in hopes that this "organization that is dedicated to assisting community cats" would be willing to do exactly what it claims that it does. What happened instead was offensive and incredibly rude. Whomever is running their social media account did not hesitate to pass judgment for reaching out to find help for poor, stray kitties. I was told "can't you feed two stray cats?" I was reaching out optimistic that your organization would care about stray cats, and I have no intention on explaining anything about my life and why feeding two stray cats is something that I will not be doing. At this point, I'm not convinced they're going to be properly tended to in the care of this facility, and will find a better alternative.I hope the owner finds peace and happiness. It is very clear at how they treat others that they're currently fighting some tough battles in life. 🙏
BETTY BOOP: I was very pleased at the help that they gave me to feed the outdoor cats they gave me three tubs insulated and a heated water dish for the cats and then they offered me information to where I could get food and how to get them picked up and get them spayed or neutered whatever whichever the cats get.
Rarity: Very caring and great advocates of homeless cats! I have adopted my kitties from this organization ❤️
Kristina Robinson: Constantly complain they have too many kittens and cays but never get back to you on your application. We have applied 3x now and not heard anything. They refuse FB messages and their phone voicemail box is full.We went to another shelter and were approved within a day and had a kitten a week later.*in response to the "owner" This last year, under my husband's name, he knew i wanted a cat as we had lost our cat to cancer, and my dog was dying of old age and thought qe should help a local cat find a new home. When he got no response, he asked me what I had done to adopt my pets previously because he was getting nowhere. He currently he has an application in under his grandma's name over a month ago, has placed comments on Facebook, messaged you on Facebook, sent multiple emails, and talked to someone representing focus on feral at petsmart. The person representing your company was extremely rude until his grandma met him to see the cats. She was told Sydney had no application for adoption, and she wanted her, so she put in an application immediately, now we see Sydney was adopted by someone else and we have heard NOTHING on our application. My mom put in an application last night after I told her all about this because she has donated on multiple occasions to your shelter, and she doesn't want to believe you would be this bad about getting back to people because you constant are asking for donations and saying you have too many cats, if you have too many cats start listening to your voicemail and get back to people that have applications in!
Mary Rademacher Reed: Donated $10 each to get winter shelters! So glad this is available for the public at a bargain price(free if needed). Mine are in place.
Stacy Roelofs: I’ve volunteered here for over 4 years now and you won’t find a group of volunteers more dedicated to cat rescue then the bunch here. No one is paid yet they step up everyday to bring cats to the vet, foster the kittens and seniors, and gives chance to the “discarded” cats of our communities.Yes some people have bad experiences due to whatever reason but all decisions are made with the cats interests in mind. We don’t sugar-coat the issues we face and the fact we have cats abandoned at our back step now and again doesn’t allow us to help as many as we can or want to.This shelter is by far the best in the area and will always get my support.
Marion Genia: I had this black cat is used to come around the house. 1 winter I thought I caught a qlimpse and he looked almost white. I had 3 cats alreadyHe seemed ok with my cats but I couldn't have him. When he did come by my house he didn't always look good. So I called and lucky I trapped him in seconds. They took him in. So I hope he got a good home. I called to check on him a few times. They said he was doing good
Catherine Selles: Ridiculous rules and unnecessary changes. Very difficult to deal with and do not have the animals best interest in mind.
Pam Carroll: I had a stray cat have kittens in our garage last year and called them several times emailed also messaged on Fb never eny response . I thought they went out of business. So I had a friend try and and email and message with no response. I finally called csnip and borrowed a cage to catch the mom to get her fixed and brought in kittens . I used to give money but not any more
