Synthusiast: what do users think?
Matt Wojtan: Hands down the best repair shop in the city.Very familiar with current gear (such as the Elektron family) and has deep knowledge of vintage equipment. Couldn’t have been more accommodating, great pricing and extremely helpful. (The owner is also a great musician!)Stop reading reviews and call! You already found the spot ^
Perry Holmes: Synthusiast came highly recommended to me by the chief engineer at River City Studios in Grand Rapids. I took my original 1983 Yamaha DX7 to get the mod wheel and volume fader repaired. They finished it in a timely manner, were reasonably priced, and were attentive in keeping me informed about the repair process! They found several solder pads that were broken as well as some loose mechanical connections that I was totally unaware of. Very very pleased with Synthusiast’s detailed work! I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend their services!! **Note that this photo is from my (messy) home studio and not their incredibly clean and organized work space :) **
Micah Phillips: I was in Grand Rapids for work for about a month. I contacted Synthusiast before I arrived and brought my Juno 106 that needed voice chips with me. Not only did they order and install the chips from overseas within 1 month, they also addressed a couple other issues I was unaware of. My Juno sounds brand new and I couldn't be happier. 10,000 stars!!!
Duane Weller: Synthusiast did a fantastic job on my vintage Kawai K5m sound module. They got a new screen working, replaced the battery, and modified the output amps for me, all at a very reasonable rate. I highly recommend them to repair or update any modern or vintage synth.
matt loeks: Synthusiast has fixed a few different pieces of gear for me, always at a fair price and in a very timely manner. I will definitely be going back whenever my gear acts up. Highly recommended!

Meyer Music: what do users think?
Nate K: The staff is always very helpful. We've been renting from them for several years and have had no issues. Great place.
Andrea Hagenow: We went to Meyer Music to buy a step up flute for our daughter.Positive:- nice Ambiente in the try-out room, my daughter had one hour with her flute teacher to try different flutesNegative:- after deciding for one model, we were told, that the flute will have to be ordered, which will take about 10 days. Next day I received the call, that the flute is already in the shop. We went there for pick-up and paying. They opened the case at the counter, and the flute seemed USED to me. Covered in fingerprints and micro scratches. I said, that this flute looks used. I was assured that it was brand new, and the person at the counter wiped away the fingerprints, which apparently were from the technician. I was told, that I can do that too, but have to buy the polish cloth. I again asked if they were sure, this was a new flute. Again, I was reassured it was.- We took the flute home. I got second opinions on the condition of the flute and it should definitely NOT have scratches, as it is completely taped when it comes from the factory. So I went back to the store. After confronting them with the fact that I was sold a used flute for the price of a new one, they offered to order a new flute, couldn’t give me an estimated arrival date though. No apology.-After a week we decided to return the instrument. Trust was broken, and buying a new instrument should be a one of a kind experience.-Return process went smooth, BUT again, no apology. Sad.
Amy Tobey: I brought one of my prized instruments in for service here because Meyer music has been part of my entire life in band & orchestra. My trombone came back a much improved instrument. The slide works great and it's a joy to play again. The staff is friendly and professional. The store is clean and pleasant. I have more instruments to service and new instruments to meet. I'll be buying them here.
mike bolling: Thank you for the president sell on piano books
Ambassadrice: Great customer service
Matt Wind: Great fast service
Jonathan Shelley: Helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Great service and great prices. Definitely the go-to place for band and orchestra instruments.
steve jessop: Great place to rent musical instruments for my kids. Staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. High quality instruments as well as accessories.
Johanna Santiago: Wao!!
Kim Ellerbrock: Easy rental and knowledgeable staff.
Susan Kooima: There were at least 5 employees just sitting around and no one greeted me. When I asked for help, the lady knew nothing about my instrument and basically told me to look up the details online. I felt like they were annoyed by my presence for some reason. Very strange experience.
Eric Pierce: Great business, very helpful staff.
Lea Wilcox: Friendly people good serve
Hannah M: Helpful staff and nice selection of beginner piano books!
Shawn Rank: Thought this was a nice store to go to. Needed to find a mouth piece for a Tuba for my nephew and they had exactly what we needed and helped us pick it out. Thank you guys
Renita Creasy: Had everything I needed and was very friendly.
James Hemsley: Great helpful staff and can order anything you need. Expensive, but the "buy local*sign makes me feel better.
Kristen Nauss: The experience at Meyer Music is always top-notch. The staff are helpful, kind, and highly educated on the instruments they provide. If one member can’t answer your questions, they immediately find someone who can. My son is now excited to go to this store instead of intimidated. Thank you, Meyer Music for the life-changing event for my kiddo!
Ashley Griffey: I would have done 5… I went there like a week ago to get a cello tuned and taped to learn. I wasn’t aware where the 2nd tape was, was actually where my third finger went. I tried to explain that the spacing was ridiculously far apart and I was struggling to play properly. She put her hand to mine and said I should be able to play a full size.I was still confused and she seemed like she had other things to do so I left. I googled more string instrument shops and found this amazing Grand Rapids Violin shop. Typically they only do appointments which I didn’t know. But she talked to me for a minute and explained that a lot of times they skip where the second finger actually goes.Came home and worked like a charm without my hand feeling like I’m stretching it past it’s limits. So now I have to start over learning because I’ve been putting my second finger where my third is suppose to go 😅😅😅
Susan Swan Tagg: Nice staff, Beautiful instruments. Recommend 💯
T-Bones Medium-Rare Jeff Carroll: Great service.

West Michigan Band Instruments: what do users think?
Luis Rosario: Great classes and great customer service.
Justin: Very nice staff and very informative! We have visited several times and have always been treated well. We will definitely be back...
Sammantha Jo: They don't carry many beginner books for violin, matter of fact they only carry one. It had what I needed in it tho and staff was helpful in finding it.
Elizabeth Pierce: They have instructors for most instruments
Jean DeRuiter: Both times we have brought the French horn to be fixed, the return service was fast and reasonably priced.
Casey Sheehan-Hunt: Excellent customer service!
Caitlin Sheldon: The owner of this establishment is so unprofessional and rude. He stands behind the “instrument repo man” speaking to minor children regarding the debt when their parents aren’t home. (I was not aware of the debt and have no issue with paying it). When I tried asking for my contract and what steps we can take to avoid the delinquency going this long without me knowing - he had apparently handed the phone off to Ben while I was in the middle of my sentence. Don’t waste your time - go somewhere else for your instrument needs.Ben on the other hand, was great (the person the owner handed the phone to while I was still talking). He handled the matter professionally and how it should have been in the first place. I can’t say enough good things about Ben. All the owner needed to do, was handle it the same way. Im sure I’ll get a rude response to this review as it seems like customer service is not important to this establishment. This was honestly the most unprofessional place I have ever dealt with.
gonsales gonsales: an incredible space, they really make a BIG BIB. difference renting there's instruments.thank you.
Haram Gil: I've known Benjamin Piela for years and can vouch for his skills as a sales rep and musician. Whether it's to buy a new instrument or receive lessons, you really cannot go wrong with this guy, or really the shop as a whole. The others seem like great people and there is a really large selection of brands and instruments at your disposal.
s kragon: Very helpful both times I've had to be there at the last minute for an urgent something or other and they always come through thank you!
Jaybird616: Very knowledgeable and friendly staff
Jeremy Nelson: All of my kids band instruments have come from here. They are always super helpful and i always feel like I am getting good value for my dollar.
Adam London: Stopped in to have a trumpet tuned up. Super helpful and fast service! On the spot, was shown how to oil the valves and where to apply lube to the slides. They gave me a bottle of each and I was on my way! Definitely recommend!
CASTING THE CIRCLE: I had many questions about a cornet my grandpa gave me. A guy named Ben there was super helpful. Great business!
ivan bliminse: First time here to experiment with reeds on a venova and they just gave me a couple. Will definitely be back! Thank you!
Robert Vander Ploeg: Super friendly and helpful, a local family owned business that I will happily support for years to come!
Carmen Domanski: We had a major problem. It was 7:30 pm and realized my Granddaughter's clarinet was not working properly. She had to be at the DeVos Place at 7:45 am the next morning to warm up for her All State Band concert. In tears she started calling and texting anyone she could think of to help. Band and Lesson teachers anyone. West Michigan Band has been amazing for emergencies when open, but they closed at 5:00 pm. It was almost 9:00 pm we received a message someone would be at the store in 15 minutes to help us. I can not thank you enough for all you have done for us. This was a big event and you saved the day. This was not the first time and I am sure it won't be the last. Thank You!
David Ross: Very knowledgeable and friendly! Thanks for your help today!
Keith Shick: They were a big help
Lorena Campos: Every time we go to West Michigan Band Instruments we get helped right away! Their rates are better than the competition and they regularly go to the school where my boys go so they can fix anything that might be wrong with the instrument. I am so impressed by their selection too. The instruments are beautiful and sound so good! My boys love the violin!!
RJ Robinson: Great place to get instruments and ask questions. Fantastic, knowledgeable staff!!

Pete's Guitar Service: what do users think?
PJ Carroll: Dropped in for quick work, paid a fair price. Will be back.
Jimbo Huizinga: Great service from Pete as always. I’m extremely happy with the last work he’s done for me.
Robert Yokabitus: Pete is the best. Anyone from the west Michigan area knows Pete and his work. Your guitars are in great hands.
N8: Had Pete install a new nut on my guitar. The price was really good (around $30), but unfortunately, he didnt straighten the neck before installing it (it was bowed a lot), and when i did straighten it after the installation, the nut was cut too low making the nut completely useless. I guess i could of made sure it was straight before i brought it in. I think he mentioned for $60 he would also do a setup. So maybe there was a miscommunication there, and for $30 he was gonna just slap a new nut on and not make sure the neck is straight. Not sure why that happened. Had to have a different tech fix it. I had rainbow music work on my guitars in the past and never had any problems until then.
R L: They restored my weather worn acoustic to a point where it feels like I'm playing my electric, and gave me good tips on keeping it properly humidified to help preserve it long term. Take your guitars here.
nick aggeler: As a guitar player, I am extremely picky when it comes to my set ups. Pete puts up with my particularities and delivers exactly what I need with a smile. He will explain your options and his methods to get it the best performance out of your instrument for the money. He understands how important a guitar can be and has resolved several of my guitar tragedies over the years. Experience and character. Thanks Pete!
Scott Carpenter: Going on 40 years playing and besides myself Pete is the one ever to work on my guitars Rock on Pete
Don Sag: Friendly and most helpful. Great prices
Dave Lathrop: i really can’t think of any more great things to say about Pete than what’s already been said here… he’s just an ace person who knows his stuff and has really helped me… if the world had more people like pete, we’d be in a better place…
Scott Bacon: Pete has been advising me through upgrading a mid-priced guitar to an outstanding "player" guitar. He has deep knowledge, explains options and trade offs clearly, and does top notch work. Rather than buying a new guitar, go see Pete! I cannot recommend him enough.
Dale: Pete is the premier luthier on this side of the state. You might get a set up at another shop for a couple bucks cheaper but no way as good. Also, the repairs he's done on my gear has been top notch and this is the only shop I'll trust bringing my high end expensive guitars too. Thanks Pete for all the good years of service!
Dunamis Video: Just got my Fender Acoustic back from Pete. I needed a tune up and asked him to set it up so the action would be better. He also fixed my 3/4 jack input so it won’t keep falling apart. Pete is a master! My guitar plays like a dream and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone who needs their guitar fixed THE RIGHT WAY! THANKS PETE!
Nick Johnson: Top notch service.Pete provides excellent service at a fair price with excellent turnaround times.Pete is also great at explaining what needs to be done and why. I brought my guitar in for a simple set up and he explained the entire process from start to finish.
David Morgan: Pete does great work and has worked on several guitars for me. Great advice also.
someguy: Pete is outstanding. I've had a lot of great people work on my guitars over the years but none with the same combination of skill and professionalism that Pete offers. A complex repair executed perfectly with excellent communication at a (more than) fair price. What else could you ask for? I will continue making the hour drive out to GR when I need a repair. Well worth it!!
Jfna Armour: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValuePete’s guitar service did a fantastic set up on my guitar. It’s never played better and super fast turnaround time. Absolutely recommend to anyone in GR needing work on their guitar.
Kyle Sutton (Kyle): Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI've been taking my guitars to Pete for years now and he has always done an exceptional job. His setups are fantastic and his prices are very reasonable.
Mitch Myers: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI’ve been taking my guitars to Pete for years. Always provides quality service!
Devin Dely: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValuePete is a true professional. I'd trust him to work on any of my instruments.
Nathan Cook: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValuePete does great guitar work - would highly recommend. He's helped me (even in the past when he was at Rainbow Music) with some partscasters I built and fixed everything so they are now playable for me.

Grand Rapids Violins, LLC: what do users think?
Ashley Griffey: Of all the places I asked for help the lady at the desk was the best!!! Thank you for the information ❤️❤️❤️❤️
cclearlyexodus2020: Friendly and knowledgeable staff! I will be beginning a new venture of learningthe viola, and Katie and RJ were very helpful and thorough with getting my viola set up to play.
Joan Chee: Thankful to make appointment to have bow rehair and instrument repair could be done all in one day.
Rajesh Kulkarni: This is a lovely shop. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. The service is impeccable. Highly recommended!
Cheryl McKague: We looked all over when it was time to upgrade my daughter from her student cello. We had cleaned out southeast Michigan in our price range (took home over a dozen cellos to try). Then we headed north. GRV had an instrument with some play and patina to it that sounded absolutely beautiful, and even brought it down to stay in our budget. Wonderful shop and very professional. No pressure sales. All around great experience.
Rachel Gaffier: Very knowledgeable and friendly! Definitely know what they're talking about, and willing to work with your budget
Micah Huisman: Superb company! Top notch products and the most excellent service!
Karen O'Dell: The staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Their services seemed reasonably priced and the turn around was quick. I was very please with the sound quality they were able to achieve with my cello. If ever I need another tune-up I know where I'm going!!
Jesi Deringer: So knowledgable. And prices are good!
Tara Noe: Excellent workmanship
Scott “Scotty” Plank: I believe the only 🎻 place in G.R. Small but very knowledgeable of string instruments on Cascade S.E. bye Int. 96 just east of overpass.
Bess Hudson: It is not recommended to approach this building uninvited or without an appointment. Maybe it was the way I was dressed. I had come directly from work, a wood shop that specializes in products with a quality and artisanship not unlike their own. So yes, I was covered in sawdust perhaps, in a t-shirt and jeans splattered with dried paint and urethane, most certainly. The door was locked (during business hours) but someone came to let us in, albeit with an air of "who are you to come unannounced?" I should have apologized and left right then but we were invited in. We were interested in purchasing a new violin here, on the recommendation of my son's private lesson instructor and wanted to get some information, check them out. We were in the neighborhood and I hate making phone calls. Why not just pop in and talk to a real person? Well, we received said information but in a very condescending manner. They would not even consider us until we were accompanied by our instructor (which is understandable but in the context of the entire visit felt like a slap in the face). We were handed invisible violins off a shelf twice, told that they were very expensive and that they don't just sell them to whoever walks in the door on a whim. It felt like they were trying to scare us away, that we were trespassing, taking up their valuable time. As it happens, we were very aware of the process and costs, having purchased instruments in the past, and didn't appreciate being treated as if we not only could not afford them but didn't know the process. A little respect goes a long way. If they had just said at the onset that they only speak to people by appointment then I would have gladly made that appointment right then and there, rather than being shown into a back room and schooled about what they won't do for us until we go through the proper channels. I will not be returning to purchase here.
Chris Willman: Great place and nice folks. Quality repair.
Luke Norvell: Super quick, very friendly. 10/10
Deane Bellah: Matt and Aubry did great work restoring my 115 yr old violin and two bows. If you need work done and want someone you can trust go there!!!
David Annis: Excellent service. We rented a villa for our son and or was a quality instrument.
P Sz: Highly recommend this team for cello repair and bow hairing. We have been coming here for the past three years.
Stacie Scherman: Everyone at Grand Rapids. Violin was very personable and helpful. Lovely shop. Highly recommend them for your stringed instrument needs.
Larissa Fall: I was very pleased with my experience at Grand Rapids Violins, LLC. I had quite a bit of work completed on my violin and all of it was done with exceptional care, artful expertise, and excellent customer service in a short period of time. I would highly recommend working with Matt Noykos. My bow re-hairs are the best I have experienced in my career thus far. Matt also gave great advice, guidance, and an insight into his techniques that helped me understand the processes he used to reach optimum sound quality in adjusting my sound post. Wonderful work!
Megan Ward: Matt is super helpful, great company.
