St. Ann's Home: what do users think?
Brooke Bouwman: DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. My grandmothers second husband had lived here for many years. She has chosen this facility as her first choice for Short term rehab on multiple different occasions over the years. The nursing staff is amazing. There is love in this building but, some of the management team and social worker on staff as of this date are highly unethical, unprofessional, and practice unethical standards that do not match up with state level code of ethics that they should be held to legally. Our family chose to remove my grandmother from their care today due to our fear for her safety emotionally. I will be adding to this review photos of emails sent from staff and questions from me that went ignored for days on end over the last two weeks when I have more time. I also will be adding specific details to this post. But right now I am saddened and tired. St Ann’s has been my go to recommendation for elderly care until now. All it takes is a few bad employees in management to ruin a place and its integrity. The only reason I am posting this today without all the screenshots is because I am fearful of any elderly person or their advocates having to endure the duress this religious non profit has put on my family themselves and want to beware any families considering this place. My family will be reporting the organization and certain employees on multiple different levels throughout the state and different licensures that are held. I will stand firm and strong in my advocacy for the elderly to be sure that change does occur so that the other people who will enter this facility and their advocates do not suffer unnecessarily due to the actions of individuals whom serve those there with no compassion, empathy, professionalism, and integrity. Truly a shame. I have faith that there will be change. I will report back the results whether it’s now or in a year. I’m hoping to see results soon and for those that participated be held accountable and encouraged to change. Everyone deserves a chance to take ownership of their wrongdoings and be given grace and forgiveness. But these individuals are standing so firm in their wrong doings it is hard to believe that any leadership within this company will admit that any act from these staff members could have done better. Everyone can do better. Man oh man the devil is at large in this place and the social worker and Intake specialist are holding his hand tight. Big prayers and healing energy being sent to them!
Jerry R: I will start by saying I have no idea how it is to live at St Ann's Assisted living, however no one will answer the phone or call you back at this facility, so I can only assume the care at St. Ann's is as poor as their phone response. I left two messages this week during the mornings. The first was on Monday with the Director of Assisted living to call me back regarding information on the facility for my father. Today, Friday in the morning I left a message on another persons phone regarding the same thing. Again, no return phone call. Looks like really poor management to me.I would like to update this review. About a month later I finally was able to speak to an admissions person at St Ann's. I was trying to help my mother get my father into assisted living. We filed all the paper work with them and a few days later I heard from the admissions person that they would accept him. Then 2 days before we were going to transfer my father to St Ann's I received a call that the head nurse had overruled the admissions person and refused to accept my dad because his condition "was to complicated ". So at the last minute we were left to scramble to find another place. St Ann's in my opinion has no compassion for the family or the elderly who need assistance. My father was a good catholic who went to church every Sunday for 95 years and contributed to the church and school at Sacred Heart Parish and this was how he was treated by a Christian organization. All this happened during the fall of 2019 prior to the covid pandemic.
Rita Valade (RMV): I have a loved one living at St. Ann's Home and I could not be more pleased. The staff have been very responsive to my concerns, have anticipated some "red flags" prior to them becoming problems, and have always called/emailed me back when I have a question or request. The facility is not the glitzy-type of assisted living, but it is very sufficient, clean, and maintained well, and has everything my loved one needs. The staff are very friendly and their fondness for my loved one is very apparent.
Becky Emery: My dad who is 93 fell and fractured his hip and needed to be place at at Rehab Facility. We also found out before he could be moved from the hospital he tested positive for Covid even though he had been vaccinated and the rehab had to be accepting covid patients as well. My family has been very blessed that my dad hasn't had any medical issue that required any type hospital stay. The hospital found St. Ann's for us. We were in uncharted waters, being we never had to deal with this kind of issue. This was our dad and we wanted him to be safe for and cared for.St. Ann's was amazing. The staff in the Covid unit were compassionate, kind, informative, and made this family feel my dad was going to get the best care.We received phones calls everyday with updates and phone calls were returned in a timely matter. Because of Covid we weren't able to enter the facility but we were allowed to go to his window everyday to visit.I wish I could name everyone that was so kind and help make my dad and and his family feel so comfortable while he was there.Thank You Amanda, Sara, Brandon, Vonn, Eric, and Ryan. There are more people to Thank and I apologize that I do not know there names, but please know that the Abbasse family is so very grateful for all of you who make it possible for us to bring my dad back home. ❤❤Thank You TAnn's. The Staff And Amazing Health Care Professional At St. Anns.
mary rose: Highest ratio of helpers to residents in the city. US News 50 best assisted living facilities in US. I think people don’t know about it causes it’s a non-profit. My moms been there over 2 years and we visit 5 times weekly. The aids/nurses care and love the people here. Dining room food is great and workers are so caring. Facility updated. Best kept secret in GR!!Updated 9/2020: Can’t say enough about the workers and the nuns who have such love, caring and concern when taking care of my mother as she went into her week before death. Hospice was involved and there was such peace and prayerfulness as she left this world for the next. They bring a cart with a CD player and many calming cds. Also workers brought a cart with coffee, tea, snacks etc and you can request what you would like (they brought me decaf coffee in a carafe everyday). At meal times they will take an order for you. I requested dinner only and they left me alone with my mom just checking in sporadically which is what we wanted. Sister Gabriella provides spiritual support and is awesome with handling death .. a life changing experience that was so positive and calming. I can’t describe how wonderful the blessing my mom’s death was being in such supportive and spiritual atmosphere!
Sloane Hansen: Be very very careful placing your loved one here! My mothers husband William "Bill" Loftis was placed here by his son Peter Loftis and the staff was told not to let me or my mother, Bills wife of 25 years, Mary Lou Loftis, talk to him, mail him anything or see how he was doing in general. My mother married Bill Loftis in 1992 and they were still married while Bill was in St Ann's home. I tried time and time again to talk to Bill and was denied by the staff. This caused my mother to live the remaining 2 years of her life asking where her husband was over and over and over again. The staff at the nursing station was told by Peter Loftis not to let me talk to or inquire as to Bills well-being. Peter threw his elderly dad Bill up against a wall when Bill was 89 years old so I was so very very concerned about not knowing how my step dad was in Peters care. This devastated my mother and also Peter directed all of the income my mother and Bill shared together to Bills care alone causing even more unimaginable pain to my mother. Bills second wife, Marie Loftis was also a resident of St Ann's and not Bills wife at the time. Don't put your loved one here as the staff will not even let you know how they are doing. Not the way families should be treated.
Bryanna Whittemore: This place is amazing
Ashley Besaw: Always short staff management is horrible they only care for the people who is considered teachers pet once seen a roach in the nurses station in assistant living ughh they have continued falls due to short staff then thier isn’t a nurse in assistant living all day so the nurses from skilled won’t come over and check out the resident that fell the residents barely get feed appropriately due to the kitchen being under staffed residents baths get skipped over the facility is just a mess I highly recommend you send your loved one to a more compassionate facility because this facility is fare from that
Teri Byrne: Always short staffed. Mandation is their answer to everything.
Patricia Riley: Mom was welll cared for, looked after, and she very much liked St. Ann's in her last years. Loving, caring and responsible folks.
Tony Jacobs: Beautiful facility. Staff were personable, extremely friendly and kind.
Michael Kohl: They have taken great care of my grandfather. St Ann's is clean, modern, caring and professional.

Valley View Care Center: what do users think?
Ericka Swedberg: My mother in law was there for rehab and she just sat there for a week and barely got any rehab. The nurses there are not very smart and would give her Tylenol with other pills but not say what they were. Thankfully, she is of sound mind and asked questions. One nurse tried to give her a calcium pill that wasn't prescribed to her and was just hospitalized before coming there with high calcium levels. Another time, she asked for her Tylenol, and they told her they gave it to her when, in fact, they didn't. They gave it to another patient with the same initials. Very unsafe when nurses are giving patients wrong medications, especially medications that could harm someone. DO NOT LET A LOVED ONE GO HERE. They need to be shutdown.
Anessa Montville: My grandmother stayed here for rehab after a fall. The staff was very helpful and patient! She was able to safely discharge home after her rehab stay. Great place away from home!!
Alyssa Hansen: They took great care of my Aunt while she stayed there for Rehab. She loved all the Staff she came in contact with.
Jill Davis: Recently had a loved one in this facility for a rehab stay. The staff were kind and attentive.
Jennifer Richardson: My brother was here for rehab and had great care. The therapists motivated him to work hard. It was very clean and he loved the food. Nurses and aides were very patient and caring with him.
Wendy Parry: This is the worst place to take a loved one. Nurses and aids sit at their desk ignoring the call lights. I had to come to help a person go to the bathroom because his call light was on for over an hour. I also had to give him baths since no one took care of him.
PunkRock101: We pulled my grandma out of here about 10 years ago because they were horrible. Just recently my grandma's best friend was admitted. I called and got transfered to her nurse. I got voice-mail so I left a message asking if they could please tell her that I am thinking about her and that I loved her very much because I was not able to go visit in person. I left my phone number and asked them to please call me back so I knew she got my message because it was very important to me (my grandmas headstone says "remember to say I love you"). They never called back and she passed away. I don't recommend ANYONE send a loved one here. They're just terrible. If you care about who you're sending just pick somewhere else. I'm sure anywhere is better than this place. They do NOT care about the patients or the family's of the patients. I hope this helps someone. If you're reading this I'm sorry if you're having to make a difficult decision like this. Keep your head up.
tammy: Watch your bill from this place..Suing people years after they left
Stephanie Arias: Horrible place, incompetent staff who do not care about their patients. My dad received terrible care and died from pneumonia two weeks after being transferred out. My dad fell twice during his stay. The staff did not notify me either time. The first fall was due to an incompetent nurse who didn’t use a gait belt while transferring a stroke patient with a flaccid right side. It took the staff 3 hrs to take my dad to the bathroom his first night there. His call light didn’t work, I called the nursing desk multiple times. The nurse kept saying they were on their way. She finally helped my dad to the bathroom and that’s when he fell the first time. My dad called me begging me to get him out of there the first night. My hands were tied bc they did not allow visitors due to Covid. Please do not send your loved ones there. I spoke with the nurse manager, director, case manager, etc they do not care. Their actions proved they are not caring and competent. Months lately, they kept billing me for an already paid bill.
addison rodriguez: great to work here. happy to be an employee at valley view.
Jasmine Muscato: I give this place 0 stars. My grandma was placed here & so far a horrible experience. When I went there to check on her she was explaining she had to use the bathroom at 5am and called for someone no one came until 8:30am. Her first night there they forgot dinner for her. One of the nurses there complained that she was faking her pain. She has a fractured knee & fractured shoulder. She can’t do anything by herself. When we call her room she can’t move to answer the phone & they don’t put the phone near her. The bed they have her in seems very uncomfortable for someone who can barley move. I talked to someone and she told me she wasn’t a supervisor they don’t have those on shifts and she was at a disadvantage because she wasn’t sure what was going on. I called the DON, I called the abuse and neglect number which was unprofessional the lady said “I just got home I’ll have to call you back”. I have not heard a call back from them and I left voicemails for everyone. The guy taking care of her I asked for her med report because she needs insulin before and after she eats she only got it 2 times in a 48 hour span and the guy said “I don’t have time for that right now”. As he then proceeded to sit down and complain to his co worker he is working a 12 hour shift and would be nicer if he didn’t have too. I don’t know why this place is open or why this was a option for her to be sent too. But 0 out of a million stars
Tim Wanger: Our experience Here with my Mom has been really good. Its been rough watching a.parents mentality dwindle. The staff has been wonderful. It truly helps if your involved. We see family members put in.and forgotten about. It's disgusting. So before you look negatively at the Center. Take a look at yourself
Katie Bremer: My great aunt was brought to this nursing home after being discharged from the hospital. I and my aunt brought her clothes Friday 10/22 and went to visit her in the afternoon of 10/23. She was still in the hospital gown she had been discharged in and her clothes were not in her room. They took the clothes and said they had to label them but they are still unaccounted for. In addition a family friend brought fudge and that also disappeared the same afternoon that it was delivered. I am horrified at the lack of care and respect that my aunt has been shown.
Dennis Adams: I gave valley view a one star because I was not able to give a zero my wife went there for rehab after suffering a stroke the staff was so unprofessional and confused about how to provide the proper medical care while being a patient there after nearly a month she passed away I would strongly recommend no one send a love one to this facility if they really love them
Shane H: Terrible place nurses mistreat residents, sleep on the job, take 3-4 hour breaks leaving no one to watch there hall wouldn't recommend
Duane Buffham: They are a shady as it gets and staff does not communicate. Do not send your loved ones here.
Juliann Zimmer: Constantly short staffed & lied to. I've currently been waiting for over 4 hours for a pain med & have gotten nothing - not even a Tylenol. I know I have a rx for pain meds so I guess I need to call 911 to get my brief changed, the window opened, & get something for pain.
Randy Tyler: My mom stayed here for rehab. She liked this place more than another place she was at earlier in the year. There good was better and the staff was friendly.
Jessica Hall: My mother in law was there for rehab. Therapy and the nurses were great!! They really pushed to get stronger. The care was great and she really liked her private room
Bill Hall: My Stepfather was placed here for hospice and I can't say enough great things about the experience. Staff was patient, caring, and helpful. They treated me and my family like we were their family.
Pamela Hendee: A family member was placed here and they said the staff was very nice and helpful. Meals are good. This is under new ownership and they are doing a good job. I call an check on my family with staff and call my family directly to see how things are. So far so good.

Edison Christian Health Center: what do users think?
Kimmi Galloway: One of your workers valeryia was extremely rude to me. Used profanity. Found me on social media and was calling me out of my name and told me I was a bad mother. Absolutely unacceptable.
Chris Peterson: My 78 year old mother has been a resident of Edison Christian Health for almost a year now. I would rate the care and communication of the facility as OUTSTANDING. The home has employees who have been there for decades and are absolute professionals. They operate with a high level of respect and care and keep marvelous records. Most impressive is their regular phone calls and emails with updates on your family members care. This home is "Christ-centered" and 100% shows it.
Elizabeth Westra: I hope by now you have received my check. The insurance company took their time issuing it. I would like to tell your staff that I was immensely pleased with the care my husband received while at Edison Christian Health Center. He never heard a cross word from anyone and was treated with the utmost care and love. The nurses and aides were loving and gentle with him. I couldn't have chosen a better place for his care. Your staff lived up to the title "Christian" in their treatment of him. I want to thank everyone for taking such good care of him in his final hours. May God continue to bless you in your mission.
Jana Maarouf: My mother was in this facility for about 6 months, the staff was wonderful, the food very good, they were so kind and caring, I visited almost everyday and was always impressed by the staff and the care she received, and I worked in healthcare for years. these people have a very hard job, and they do it with a smile. The facility could use some updating!!!! But the staff made up for it. It’s not fancy
D XIDGV: Health Center staff is truly excellent and totally patient focused. The level of care and patient progress has surpassed my expectations and continues to do so. In comparison with other facilities experienced, this is the best by far. I am so thankful to the entire staff for their ongoing commitment to excellence.
Ken Katerberg: Friendly committed staff
Tim Fatum: Christian Rest Home cared for our aging father. Dad passed away this past February but I have to say that the time he had at Christian Rest Home was a blessing. They loved and cared for Dad as though he were family. It's tough to see parents age but it gave us comfort knowing he was in good hands. Thank you Christian Rest Home.

Samaritas Senior Living of Grand Rapids: what do users think?
S M: From day one this facility has struggled to care for my family member. On day one they allowed my family member to leave the facility which is supposed to be a locked door facility. From there it has only gotten worse. They allow my family member to sit in filth. Because she “denies” a shower the facility is ok with it and allows her to go days and almost weeks without giving her a shower unless family comes and assists. Physical therapy has denied her service because she refuses in the moment. She has Alzheimer’s and has no way of knowing what she is saying and yet they allow her to make these decisions on her own. It appears to simply be an excuse to not have to work with her. Her bathroom and bedsheets are often covered in fecal matter that has been there for days. Her bedsheets constantly are misplaced and we are told we need to buy more. She wears the same clothing for days and weeks at a time unless family comes and assists. When you voice the concerns to the staff and admins they won’t accept responsibility and make excuses. They make notes that they make a full assessment, however she has plates of moldy food and rashes on her body that go unattended. It is heartbreaking to know what my loved one faces in this facility and god only knows how many other families have loved ones in the same facility that are going through the same thing. No one seems to really care unfortunately.
Tim Todd: Like place
Pete Wentriding: Infested with BED BUGS. They won't come and help when the assistants button is activated. Food is extremely high in sodium. STAY AWAY.......
Herman Faceson: Yes! I put in a application at the Samaritans Senior independent living facility. I was communicating with a person or supervisor.at that facility on Burton Street Southeast community,a couple of times concerning the waiting list. But the Samaritans on 32nd Street does not have the communication skills to help seniors like me to find where they need to go for help.today I've tried calling Samaritanas, customer service, line three to four times each time I I was asking how may I direct your call well the phone number that I have for my last conversation with someone on the Burton Street Southeast community is the number that I called but instead it gave me the 30 second Street as I tried to explain to the customer service my situation they were very rude. not willing to help. put me on hold and left me there. after waiting for 5 to 10 minutes. I call back no one answered. the telephone operator said I had the wrong number. It doesn't take a genius,to figure out that they didn't want to answer the phone. after my third conversation.with the customer service, totally unprofessional. I hope nothing like this happens to one of their family members. I'm a senior in need of a place to live independently. Is the kind of help that you get. My question is where are the adults. That are getting paid to help people like me find the right directions, connections. Thanks!
Sharon Shelley: I have been impressed by the entire staff at Samaritas. There are always nurses and aids around even though they are under staffed. They are caring and kind to the patient as well as visitors. The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy are exceptional. Food is not always to his taste but I know it is hard to please so many.
Sarah Morren: Samaritas started off well, but is falling apart. The laundry room can't bother to keep grandma's undergarments from mysteriously disappearing multiple times. To allow an elderly person to sit all day without underwear when we have purchased and repurchased underwear for her is absolutely ridiculous! I can't help but find the lack of care disrespectful. Since the pandemic, her room has deteriorated too. Items hanging on the walls have fallen or are hanging on by a thread producing a disheveled room. It is hard to standby and watch a care facility that you entrusted your beloved family member with allow such preventable occurrences.
Debbie Rolf: My mom has been at Samaritas The Lodge now for over 2 years with Dementia. They are an awesome group of caretakers!! Her care has been excellent there.I have seen a little turnover but in fact my mom has had the same Aids and nursing staff now for over the 2 years. They are caring wonderful people who take care of each resident as if it were their own loved one!Recently, my mom contracted a mild case of Covid and had to be sent to a Covid Hub. It was a horrible place and experience SKLD on the Beltline in Grand Rapids. After the lack of care I witnessed there I am counting our Blessings that we have Samaritas! They are a Christian Based organization and it shows in the loving giving care they provide every day to help the elderly! Thank you Samaritas for all you do!
Kayla Benefiel: Absolutely horrible place. Multiple times, we have entered my grandmother's room to find dirt all over her floor and feces all over her toilet seat. On the back of the toilet was a dish rag with fecal matter on it. When we found my grandma, she was in the dining area, practically falling out of her wheelchair. A nurse was sitting right next to her, but was ignoring her and was instead focusing on eating. When we asked the nurse to help us move her back to her wheelchair, she refused and said that she wasn't my grandma's caretaker that day. An absolute disrespect and lack of care for the residents and horrific hygienic practices and filthy living conditions. Do not send your loved ones here!
Kasha Cockrell: I have it in good authority this place has a high turnover rate and is never adequately staffed. 1 aide is responsible for 32 residents due to staff calling in. The aide doesn't get a lunch no break this is against labor laws. Leadership may want to investigate before the state comes in.
Aleeha Steeby: I love the people and the place!
Pamela Martin: Pastor Josh is the BEST!! Well him & Jesus in reverse order, LOL!
Shannon vanderploeg: My dad has been living at the lodge since December. It was quite an adjustment for him at first. But now he has made a lot of friends there. The facility is very nice. The nurses are wonderful! But you do need more help on 3rd shift and on the weekends because the amount of patients the facility has. You also need a new call system with lights outside the door so the staff know when patients need help. Relying on pagers doesn't always work.
Brenda Dehoek: Residents have to stand in line 30 min and wait for meals when there are 25 empty tables because there is not enough dining room staff to serve meals. Residents are not seated in an orderly manner; whoever fusses the most gets seated first. Visitors have to pour coffee and water for the residents because the few staff members are so overwhelmed. This has been going on for months.
Tanya Gomez: I worked at the Woods for almost two years. It was terrible. They have a high turnover rate for employees so they hire anyone. The things that they let the staff get away with was just wrong. Residents would go hours without care until you would have to ask someone else to help. I can not count on two hands how many times I caught employees sleeping in residents rooms. The head nurse was amazing but any other management was useless. They have no idea what happens on the floor so when you go to them for help they act like they care but nothing is done. When working with residents you have to care for them like family but so many employees just look at it as a job and slack. Everyone calls in on the weekend so you have to scramble and with 3 people get over 50 residents up and dressed. The scheduler doesn't like to help with your schedule because it is not convenient for her and will mess up her master schedule. There are some very good workers at the Woods that have been there for many years but other than them no one seems to care. They put residents into this facility that should not be there because they are completely paralyzed and then they don't provide the equipment to move them safely. I feel so bad for anyone that puts their family into this facility. I deeply miss the residents I worked with daily.
Hannaniah Whitley: This place has horrible management. The staff obviously don’t enjoy their job, it smells like someone’s smeared poop throughout the building and I’m mortified my grandmother has to live here. She was left in the bathroom for a ridiculous amount of time and when I asked the aide if it was legal she shrugged her shoulders, said yes, and made excuses of not having enough staff......If you don’t have enough staff you shouldn’t be accepting new people. This is unfair, disrespectful, and a poor choice of response.Definitely not a place I would suggest keeping your loved ones at.
Karen Finkbeiner: I visited a friend who is a resident at the Lodge yesterday. The facility was clean.. smelled good. Staff were pleasant. When I left I was crying and a the receptionist took the time to console me. All so appreciated.Karen F
Tatiana Yates: Place is nice and so is most of the staff except for Brad Latimore. He is rude, arrogant, and steals food from the kitchen.
Bill Stoffers: Very nice place. Staff is wonderful.
Nutrition Treatment: It's like a luxury hotel here. A nice plush environment to work in!
Barbara Egeler-Bailey: High turnover at the Lodge. Hard to reach staff for a message. Many aides seen standing around.
Jason Thomas: My grandma was there for rehabilitation and the people were awesome
