The Local Epicurean: what do users think?
Shruti Choubey: This place was like a dream. Italian food haven where our angel Fumi came to the rescue and helped us in our quest to find the ingredients to attain food Nirvana! There's just so much variety of cheese, beautiful pasta and wine. They also have readymade pasta, we got the lasagna and meatball ravioli . Can't wait to come back for the amazing cooking classes that they have.
Joel Horst Realtor: We LOVED going here to celebrate a birthday. We made our own meal from scratch and then got to eat it! It was incredible and our cooking instructor was very fun!
John Roskowski: My wife, another couple and myself had a great experience at Local Epicurean on April 19th, 2023. We made our dinners under the professional expertise of our host. We liked it so much that we bought four coupons to do it again. Highly recommended. I can't think of a better way to spend the evening as we did with friends.
Jill Barnes: The Black Truffle class was an absolute blast and the food was outstanding. We'll be back for more classes and would highly recommend it.
My Grand Rapids Life My Grand Rapids Life: My husband and I just came here for the first time and now I can't wait to go back! We had so much fun! Our chef guide Mitch was funny and informative with everything we prepared! Not only was preparing all the courses a blast but the actual food itself was out of this world delicious! I'm still dreaming of the sun-dried tomato pesto sauce we made! If you are looking for a fun date or a large group setting def check them out! You will not regret it!
Eric Graham: Love this place so much we bought gift cards for the next private class when we we finished our first one. This is great for anyone who loves to cook, needs a date night out, or a family/friend outing.I was gifted a gift certificate here for my birthday and I chose the calabria lamb. To our pleasant surprise it is a private class (which still would have been fun with others but was nice to have the one on one attention). We had Sophia who was amazing! She did a great job teaching my fiancé and I on how to cook the lamb and make the gelato. Was one of the best meals we’ve ever had!
Peggy Dobrenski: We were looking for something to do during the bleak part of March with our family from out of town, and this was perfect. The entire staff was fun and accommodating of a few special needs. Chef Alexia was full of helpful tips and the guys got into pasta making as much as the gals. They even let us eat in the kitchen as the tables were lower~ and the kitchen is definitely the heart of this place. Can't wait to go back!
Lori Stegmier: Last night we took a three course private cooking class. Fumi, our instructor, was amazing. You felt like you were spending time in the kitchen of an old friend. She easily took us through the steps of making a fabulous meal, and even got our kitchen avoidant spouses involved!
Mimi Emig: Great cooking class with Fumi! Yes, it's a splurge. But so is a good restaurant. We did their morel mushroom class. Everything is laid out to make the class run smoothly. Fumi is clear with instructions, fun, and enthusiastic. Her team works smoothly together. And the food? Fantastic!
Todd Gardner: The wife and I had a terrific time today learning with Fume. Our burrata caprese salads, handmade linguine with classic tomato basil sauce, and fresh churned lemon basil gelato we're superb. We laughed, talked, learned, improvised our way through an impressive 3 course meal. We definitely will be back soon... Probably to learn risotto. We highly recommend the Local Epicurean!
Robert Peterson: V
Angela Tiemeyer: Their classes make for a fantastic date night. The food is incredible. The gelato is easily one of the best desserts I've had. Mitch was a great instructor.
Rachel Wright: Had a very delicious cooking class here. I wish we could've actually made more things (pasta was already made 😕) as it was a cooking class. But I'd go back to shop around.
Chris Bunda: We have done a few cooking classes; however, nothing compares to this…… great job…. We already purchased our next class!
Susan Ayres: We had an incredible experience with Fumi. She was delightful, fun and truly made the entire night! We had the scallops and angel hair pasta dinner that was delicious. The entire staff was friendly and engaging and we can’t wait to go back!
marge b: Fabulous "Date Night" experience with my husband. Our evening at The Local Epicurean couldn't have been any better. We did the Calabria Rack of Lamb cooking class for two and had so much fun learning how to fine tune our pasta making skills, make a ridiculously amazing sun dried tomato vinaigrette and prepare rack of lamb with a fresh rosemary pecorino pesto. Five stars for the food and five stars for the all staff who made us feel welcome and elevated our cooking experience with their knowledge, friendliness, and humor. Thank you to both our instructors, Mitchell and Cam, as well as Fumi and Sophie. Also to the gentleman working back of the house whose name I didn't catch. We hadn't even left the building before we were talking about what and when for our next Epicurean experience!
Aberdeen RRR: The atmosphere is cozy, culinary kitchen! The staff is exceptional durning the entire culinary experience! We signed up for the rack of lamb, and it was outstanding! We learned techniques that we never thought about such as pesto with anchovy! The staff was fun, personal, and took many photos! We had so much fun that we bought a gift card and we are coming back again for the seventh time! The food was so layered in my taste pallet! All I needed to do was walk outside to a Mediterranean beach! Outstanding! Portions were plenty and took home 1/2 ! They all made us feel at home except we didn’t have the mess or dishes! Great bar menu and mixologist!Worth it! Bam!Kim & Greg
Sarah Baar: Went with a friend for the Pasta 101 class. It was amazing! Our instructors, and the whole staff, were fantastic. The food was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
Kaitlyn H: Had so much fun with the Diver Scallop class. Made our own pasta and had some yummy wine and gelato. Everything was delicious!
Jake Kammeraad: Wife and I had a great time doing the Venice class. Mitch was a great teacher and the food was awesome. We will be back!
Chelsea VanderWal: We had such a great time celebrating my husband's birthday with a cooking class! The lamb meal is seriously one of the best meals we have ever had. I have been to Italy and the fresh pesto we made was better! The instructors were amazing and taught us so many great tips and tricks. We will be back!

Palio - Grand Rapids: what do users think?
Marian Starr: Me and the entire family (about 9 of us) got sick as a dog. Daughter was rushed to the hospital.
Christopher Atkins: The food is awesome here! I've tried most of the entrees and pasta dishes and haven't gotten anything that wasn't amazing. Service can be hit or miss depending on server. I sit at the bar and have Justin take care of me and he's awesome. Shrimp scampi is probably my favorite.Food: 5/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 3/5Recommended dishes Carbonara …More
Zlatko Znidarcic: Best pizza in town. Great staff!
Lilia B: Ambiance: I came here during the evening and the lighting is perfect.Atmosphere: It could get noisier I imagine, but wasn't all that noisy when I ate.Food: the pasta was really good! The noodles were a perfect al dente, and the sauce was creamy and cheesy and not too oily or dry. The desert (not pictured) was very good as well. The Pane di Caramello was the desert I had.Overall: I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner dates and there is a private room for big parties as well! I will be coming back here to try other dishes! :)Edited to add: you can also get vegetables added to your Fettuccine Alfredo.Vegetarian options: They have pasta made of vegetables and vegetarian options.Wheelchair accessibility: The door to get in is a good width. May need help holding door open on way in. Turn left and you go through another door.Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free options and mention to let the server know if you have any allergies as well.
Alexandry Pena: Sadly couldn't give a proper review on food or service. We went there with a group of 8.. they said they didn't have any seating for that Large of a group. But then we noticed as we were leaving two groups of four were able to get in? Maybe it's a reservation type of restaurant and we were walk-ins in their defense.. just felt a bit brushed off but could have been other reasons too. The place did look nice and will try again sometime in the future.
Brandon LeAnnais: Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Lisa Chang: Delicious and tasty for a hidden gem on the Medical MileRecommended dishes Tiramisu, Calamari Fritti, House Salad …More
Narae Yang: Had dinner here last night and it was wonderful. The host really went out of his way to find us a table even though there was initially a 45 min wait. The staff was so friendly, and the food came out so fast and was delicious! Definitely will be coming back to dine here again :)
Nathan Spratt: I've been to sister location in Ann Arbor (although 3+ years ago). Not sure if it's the location, or it's changed ownership over the years, but this was really disappointing. The Bolognese had hardly any sauce and the pasta was overcooked. The servings were much smaller, and the tiramisu was mostly whipped cream with very little coffee flavor.
A “The Administrator” H: They have a tiny parking lot, so we had to park pretty far away because all the spots were taken. They didn't have any vegan options on the menu but a few things could be tailored to be vegan. I had the broccolini and eggplant spaghetti dish. The sauce was bitter and bland and the broccolini was also very bland. Their drink selection was ok and the servers were attentive and I have no real complaints with the service. The atmosphere was ok, but not great. It was pretty dark in the restaurant and it was acceptionally cold. I have no desire to go back.Vegetarian options: They had a few vegetarian options but not really anything vegan. But you could tailor one of the dishes to be vegan.
sandy nicholson: Food lacked taste and Sangria watered down.Dan, our server, was fabulous!!Vegetarian options: Vegan pizza
Sara T: Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5More
A. T.: We ordered the Mezzaluna pasta, and pizza with artichokes. The pizza was delicious, however the pasta was very disappointing. The sauce was overpowering and acidic. We were unable to order the dessert that we wanted to enjoy with our coffee. The cappuccino was good but not outstanding. The server explained the Mezzaluna dish as stuffed shells with rin meat on top. She said it's one of her favorites, we decided to trust her recommendation. We were very surprised to receive something completely different. They were stuffed ravioli in a sauce with spinach. Very disappointed in the dish. I would've ordered something else, and I didn't want my company to feel embarrassed to talk to a manager as suggested. In addition, as a European, and lover(s) of Italian cuisine, it surprised me the menu lacked lasagna, seafood linguini, and some other important staples.Pizza - 5☆Atmosphere - 4☆Music - 5☆ (orchestra, Pavarotti, etc.)Service - 3.5 ☆Seating comfort (booth/table) privacy/ space - 5 ☆Cappuccino - 3.5 ☆
Elizabeth Spratt: I think the biggest issue we had was our memory of going to Palio in Ann Arbor. This one in Grand Rapids had a totally different vibe and the food was not nearly as good. If they were advertised as a wood fire pizza place who happens to serve decent pasta, I would not have been so disappointed. I got the Bolognese. Hardly any meat: micro amounts, and it was a bit dry. I asked for more sauce & they were happy to accommodate. Service was excellent. We were a party of 9. It was my birthday and Tiramisu is my absolute favorite dessert. There’s was a major disappointment. Disproportionately heavy on the whipped cream, no coffee flavor to the lady fingers, and chocolate sprinkles. It wasn’t bad, especially if you were looking for a whipped cream like dessert and not the classic tiramisu. Again, the food was good, service was outstanding- it just wasn’t the premier homemade pasta high-end Italian we were expecting.
Sean “Murph”: Stopped in with my folks and had an amazing experience, the appetizers and pizza were delicious and the service was exceptional.Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
amy wilson: Food: 3/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes CarbonaraMore
Sandra Bertin: Real Italian food. Made from scratch. Good wine selection, great service. You need to leave some space for dessert!
Tristin Orbeck: First time here and it was absolutely astounding. Kara (our server) was very informative on every question we asked and kept making us laugh. She was super sweet and very personable. Give this girl a raise! 5 star! Also the food was beyond expectation! My girlfriend and I are definitely coming back for that Pollo Di Mostarda and the chicken parmigiana!
Mark Van Skyler: Great food and service as always! Recommend the salmon and tiramisu.
Alex Mac Donald: Nice place, good food, friendly service! I recommend this little spot BIG TIME! Your tasye buds will thank me later.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Margherita Pizza, Chicken Marsala, Chicken Parmesan Bundle, Calamari Fritti, Classic Fettuccine Alfredo, Chicken Carbonara, Tiramisu …More
Jon Go Unchained: First timer. I’ll be going back. Attentive staff, reasonably priced. Great food & unique drinks. I could see this becoming my favorite restaurant.Recommended dishes Limoncello Bar, Calamari Fritti, Classic Fettuccine Alfredo, Tiramisu …More
