David King: Tea and spice shop inside the Downtown Market building. I was looking for a pound of Tellicherry peppercorns for my peppermills at home. $33 dollars per pound, no thank you! This whole "shop local" thing don't work unless your prices are competitive. Went home and ordered my pound of pepper for $9 off Amazon. To end on a positive note I'll say that while I'm not a tea drinker, it looks like they do have a large selection of teas on their shelves.

Bella Boo: Service there (at least the person working when I was there) stares you down and follows you, not a good experience to have someone breath down your neck while trying to find some tea. :(

MV P: First time I went, the guy who was there sold me the full bag( the entire once), he was really nice.I went yesterday and a lady was there and she was talking and talking I putted my tea inside the bag I didn’t check because I was in rush and today I just checked and she didn’t even sold me the half of the product, the tea is great but please don’t do this to the people. I can’t even go myself to ask for a refund because I am not from Grand Rapids.

I explained to her she was required to sell it for the price marked. She said their labels printed wrong and it was actually the higher price. I told her again she was required to sell it for the price marked. She said there was nothing she could do and couldn't change the register. I went elsewhere.

Tom Heetderks: I was happy to find a well stocked store in G.R, that said it was overwhelming in the selections, and as others mentioned virtually nothing is priced on product or shelf. I don't know if this is a cultural thing, but I never felt so unwelcomed in a grocery store. Maybe everyone is just really serious, and I confused it with uncaring. Several employees were present, it was not busy at all and yet no one asked if needed help ( I was there for over 30 minutes, it was fascinating to check out all the products). Eventually I rather apologetically asked the lady at the counter for help with pricing on different sized spices, so I don't overbuy and end up with stale spice. She did oblige, so that was nice. I then set all the stuff on the register counter and hoped I could afford it. I said thanks, but no response after paying. I will not return again, there has to be a better option in G.R Mediterranean island on 44th also has some Indian items, FYI

Serene Simran: A lot of the products sold are expired, I accidentally bought something expired yesterday and now they won’t take returns or exchanges. Waste of money. No labels on the products throughout the store so you will be surprised at your bill at checkout.

Jaliya Samarakoon: We used to go to this store from Kalamazoo since they have a variety of items. But recently, they have increased all of the prices. Most of the items' price stickers on the shelves have been removed, so most of the time you'll be surprised once you check out the items.When we compared prices with other stores, even in Kalamazoo Indian stores, I noticed that the price at Spice of India was always higher.Not a good place to do shopping.

Jason: Not sure I’ll be shopping here again. The lady in the front is really nice & helpful, but unfortunately a number of products are expired (6months+ expired). I gave them a number of passes on some expired good because I like to support local ethnic shops. Recently I tried to return one product, but they make returning products difficult without a receipt. They have the ability to look up the product on their system, but still deny returns even if their product has fungus growing on it.I wish them the best, but will not be shopping here again.
