Brett Heppler: 4 cupcakes for $17, expected for the flavor, time to prepare and visually appealing decorations. The kiddos eyes get very big and then they smile from the time of ordering to the time of finishing their last crumb. Fun stop on our way out of East Lansing.

The perfect icing ratio to cupcake and very photo worthy!

I called today to order a dozen vegan cupcakes and was told that they don't do them anymore. That is such ashamed because they were honestly the best cupcakes I have ever eaten!

Jacquelen Timm: They don't even deserve one star. VERY RUDE employees. I emailed the decorator ideas that I had and she never responded then I went into the bakery and they told me that I needed to email the decorator.....I will never recommend this bakery.
Lana McEachnie: I stopped in to order my wedding cake and the lady that took my order was friendly and very helpful. She gave me options and made suggestions. When my husband came in to pick up the cake ( at the exact time they scheduled my pickup) they had the cake decorated but with no wording. They said there was no room for the congratulations on the cake and I could have it written on the board but to fit, it wouldn’t fit into the box so we would be taking the cake home uncovered. (The lady I ordered with did say that only Congratulations would fit on the cake and the rest would have to go on the board. She didn’t indicate a problem with the cake being boxed. I was very frustrated and asked why they don’t have conversations with the other employees that sell the cakes and why I had to find this our 3 hours before my wedding. I asked why they don’t look at the orders the day before to look at any potential problems. They didn’t have an answer and the lady was a bit rude and not at all apologetic. The cake itself was good but not great as I expected. The price was very reasonable I felt. I would not do business with them again especially because this mess up could have been totally prevented.

Shyla Brown: Stopped in earlier this week to order a cake for my daughters 12Th birthday party. The party is for this Sunday. I asked if I could pick the Cake up on Sunday I was informed they are not open on Sunday so I would need to be there on Saturday. I asked what time I could pick it up we agreed on anytime after noon. I was shocked by the price of $130 for a cake a small heart shaped cake, however, still decided to purchase the cake. When my husband and I showed up on Saturday to pick up the cake to our surprise, there was no cake. The same lady that took my order was there accuse me giving them the wrong date? Was very rude and unaccommodating. I am well aware of the date of my daughters birthday party could not believe the way that I was treated and would never go back and order a cake at this establishment.
Christine Miner: I had a horrible experience at Bake N’ Cakes. My order was supposed to be ready for pickup at 10am and I showed up at 10:40 to pick it up. They could not find my order and had to go make it, I waited an extra 30 minutes. After I received the cupcakes I realized they made them incorrectly so we then had to wait another 30 minutes. In total I spent an hour waiting for my cupcakes while arriving after the designated pickup time. After argument all they could offer was either a free cupcake or a 10% discount on the order and did not offer any more after they made them incorrectly. While we were waiting another woman came in and was picking up her order she placed, they could not find it either and made it incorrectly. I was very displeased with the manager Mya’s willingness to correct their wrongdoing and her poor attitude. She stated she remembered taking the order and that we must have placed the order wrong. We even clarified on the phone the difference between white and vanilla and yet we got chocolate? Also if she remembered taking the order why weren’t they ready on time? Horrible customer service and mediocre cupcakes.
Elizabeth Newton: This is the worst place to order a cake ! Very disappointing! Very unprofessional! Cake was not done correctly, when I came to pick up cake for my daughters bday , they made a very plain cake not what was ordered charged extra , I explained that his wasn’t the cake I ordered, I asked for it to be helped in anyway they could , they did nothing but make excuses, told me I could just leave the cake , had no compassion whatsoever that they made the cake incorrectly. Still made me pay an over priced amount of money , told me to call back and speak to a manager Mara , who hung up in my face . Don’t order from them !! They don’t deserve to be in business!

Skylar Spitzer: The cupcakes look super cute, however, the taste doesn’t equate. Some were a little dry, overly sweet, or just plain bad. We got an assortment, one of which had cherry frosting, and it was not edible- it tasted like cough syrup. The service was friendly and helpful.

Lioness of Judah: Sugar Shack has the worst gluten-free cookies in town. They are grainy and tasteless and they have this aftertaste that is off-putting. I would not walk in to this business and think that you're going to have a wide variety because you don't. The owner used to make gluten-free cupcakes those were delicious however she doesn't sell them on her racks because she claims that she doesn't have enough business for gluten-free desserts. I find that hard to believe since gluten-free and Celiac are prevalent right now and probably always will be because people have food intolerances and food allergies.March 10, 2023 UPDATEA friend of mine ordered from SS and the person who took the order was RUDE. Unfortunately I see they haven't improved their management, employees, or services. GF items are still limited. How disappointing to see they haven't stepped up to be more professional and inclusive.I left the OG review FOUR years ago.

Lauren Buhlman: Very unprofessional. Turned down business.I reached out via email to try and get some questions answered about wedding cakes. It was like pulling teeth to get them to answer all the questions I asked so I had to keep emailing back repeating my questions. I scheduled a tasting/consultation via phone because they won’t do it over email. After speaking with the woman who answered the phone, what we are looking for (small cake and cupcakes) didn’t need a consultation but told me to let them know if that’s how I wanted to proceed or not. So, a few days later, I emailed back asking to cancel the consultation because I didn’t want to hold up a spot for someone else. They responded saying all Wedding orders required a consultation. I responded saying how I was frustrated because I kept getting different information and that the woman on the phone told me we didn’t need one and then asked them to keep my appointment and confirm we were still on schedule. Promptly, they responded saying that I was no longer a “good fit” for them and that they were cancelling my appointment and would not be of service for our wedding. I guess they turn down business when you ask to many questions or express frustration with misinformation or point out any mistake that they make.

We got a three tiered cake with strawberry and red velvet and 4 dozen vanilla & chocolate cupcakes. Everything was so delicious and moist! Also reasonably priced! I will be a returning customer! Also the cake and cupcakes were for 150 people and we had plenty, even with saving the top tier for our anniversary.

I got an assortment of 2 dozen cookies and ended up cutting them in half because they are so large and that way people could try 2 (or 3) different kinds. They were all delicious but my favorite was the molasses cookies. Now the cupcakes were the best I’ve ever had. Perfect flavoring….the frosting was not too sweet and oh so creamy! I got an assortment of those also. All our guests loved them. The lovely staff at Cakes-A-Blooming made the place even more special. I WILL be returning again. Thank you for helping make our weekend wonderful!!

Kristen Reese: Bought a dozen cupcakes to share with my Mom for Mother's Day. They were a hit, especially the German chocolate for my Mom. It was nice that my brother (who eats GF) was able to enjoy them as well. He really liked the carrot cake cupcake. The cupcakes were delicious and beautiful.

Merry Stanford: I have longed for a truly gluten free eatery in Lansing for decades! This one is top notch, everything made from fresh, natural ingredients, like whole sweet potatoes for the sweet potato pie. My husband is raving about the baked goods. Too bad I've had to give up sugar. But the lunch options are equally fabulous! Today there were at least six types of sandwiches, two kinds of really yummy quiche, two kinds of similarly yummy soup (including cactus chili -so unexpectedly good!) and a kale salad. I was able to get a full lunch and two baked goods for my sweetie for under $25. I highly recommend this cafe, not only for celiacs, but also for anyone looking for whole, fresh food. The only recommendation I have is to offer a wider choice of salads.
Jeremy Hurt: I can't say enough about how great this establishment is. They have a great selection and variety of sweets that, based on what I've had so far, I'm sure are all fabulous. Couple that with a delicious lunch and what more could you need? Plus, their little greeting is fun and feels retro, like this is how people were greeted 50 years ago in store. You don't hear stuff like that in many other stores. I have a feeling Nikki and Sweet Encounter will be around for a long time making their mark in Lansing and beyond.

Andrea Hansen: I cannot say enough good things about Nikki and Sweet Encounters. I have been buying baked goods from her for years because we have many people in our family with dietary restrictions. You would never know that the cakes, cookies and pies are gluten free or dairy free (vegan). They are simply fantastic. She also goes above and beyond and created the cutest most creative cookies for an event I had (with extremely little information). I recommend her to everyone and we are so lucky to have her here in the Lansing area.

Anisah A: I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Young and his team since they opened back in 2020.The quality of their desserts is unmatched and has stood the test of time. They have a rotating menu updated on Facebook each week (and a new website!) so the variety keeps us coming back week after week.Some of my favorites are the carrot cake, dacquoise, cream puffs and pecan financier. You really can’t go wrong. Sometimes there are savory options as well that are always beautifully balanced. The drinks are great too! Personally, I go for the banana latte or matcha americano.For any Muslim or vegetarian/vegan customers they are well informed of which desserts contain gelatin. Yeremi was even kind enough to experiment with plant-based gelatin but the outcome wasn’t the same (also shows how genuine they are when they say they don’t put out new products unless it meets their standard)Lovely people, warm and inviting atmosphere with desserts that are the perfect balance of sweetness.
Diane Hurley: Ordered strawberry creme cake for birthday. Expensive but enjoyable. Raspberry creme delicious. Bought a coffee macaroon, tirimisu, & salted pretzel chocolate chip gourmet cookie. All lacked a strong flavor. Cookie was thick & crunchy, so disappointed in these 3 items.
Sue Xayarath: This place has amazingly delicious desserts! Ordered a strawberry chantilly cake for my son’s birthday (his request) and everyone was raving about how delicious the cake was. Needless to say there wasn’t any leftovers. Owner and staff was very friendly, opened the door for us and and welcomed us in. We will be back for more full sized cakes 🎂

Another customer said the macaroons were “life changing” and she wasn’t exaggerating! We had the creme brûlée macaroon - I bought another before walking out - and will be back again for them! The strawberry milk was also delicious.

I loved the sesame mochi cookie the texture and flavor was incredible. The pineapple Victoria cake slice. The banana pudding oh my gosh! Woah! The strawberry scone. And the dacquoise was also amazing! A must taste! They also have amazing beverages to choose from. Got the matcha latte! Yum!

p: Hands down my favorite place to go for Matcha and other fun boba drinks. They’re always so kind and attentive and their pastries are also a breath of fresh air for the Lansing area. I can’t visit without purchasing at least three (two of which are always cookies - they’re SO good!) pastries. Please give them your service!

Nariyah: This is such a nice bakery! I went here wanting to try something new and definitely enjoyed. I was only able to get a few things because it was nearing the time of closing so I will definitely be going back to try new things. I got the pineapple macaroon, crème brûlée macaroon, matcha white chocolate macadamia cookie, and the vanilla cinnamon latte. My cousin got the caramel banana pudding, the confetti cookie, a blueberry tart, and the banana crème latte. The crème brûlée macaroon didn't really have a distinct flavor but the pineapple had a great flavor and the inside filing was good. The matcha cookie was great after being microwaved for a few seconds and latte was tasty and had a strong cinnamon flavor which I loved. My cousins also says all her items were really good. Will definitely be going back!

Claire Belmont: Cute Cafe! I took out breakfast but will be back sometime to try some of their cookies and other goodies.
Michelle Benson: It's such a cute spot! I've seen it for years, but I never realized they had gluten-free options or more than pastries. I got the El Rito without the wrap, and it was amazing! Everything else was closed, and this was the only place I could find that was open.Plenty of seating, some cozy. I'll be back!

Kendra Miller: Mitten Raised was our baker for our wedding back in November and they did a fantastic job! People still rave to us about the dessert we had at the wedding months later. We did donuts, cookies, and pie shooters! Katie was great to work with and did a fantastic job at setting up the desserts.
Alana Retzer Brinker: This is MY FAVORITE PLACE. The cookies and brownies are amazing, despite them being better known for their donuts. My favorite is the Oh-do brownie, with Oreos and cookie dough in it, and the butterscotch oatmeal cookie, and the campfire cookie (made to look like a campfire!). I'm a tea gal and love their chai tea latte, made with Tazo concentrate. They also have a bunch of creative coffees that sound so fun except that I don't like coffee. They also have a great food menu. They have things that people who are trying to "eat healthy" would like, but they still actually taste good. My favorite is the el rito, and the breslin burrito, and I love that I can get tator tots here as well, since who doesn't love those!?
Chris Glassman: An East Lansing staple for tasty breakfast sandwiches, wild and sugary donuts, and local coffee with creative flavors. It’s also a great spot to get some work done!
Officer Paw Patrol: Cool city vibe for a bakery. Quality of the food is great. I got a few cinnamon rolls to go which were really nice and large. Prices were average and I didn’t feel like I was paying inflated campus prices. Only downside was the cashier who had zero patience. I asked her if the cinnamon rolls had cream cheese frosting or regular icing and she quickly snapped back “I don’t know, I guess you’ll find out”.
Doug Kohler: The food here was amazing!! The waffle sandwich hit the spot and the breakfast wrap was a flavor explosion. The atmosphere here is good, but I think the best thing was the cinnamon roll. Probably the best I’ve ever had!

It made it so easy with all the cookies individually wrapped and we had 5 different options for guests to choose from. Family & friends couldn't stop raving about them. Katie and her team were very easy to work with to place the order well ahead of time and the day I was planned to pick them up, they were all there waiting for me, freshly baked. I highly recommend Mitten raised whether your catering or just looking for a delicious treat. Also if you're thinking about getting the Seinfeld cookie, pick up double what you planned on. Thank you Mitten Raised for the amazing cookies and phenomenal service.
A KWM: Got a cake for my daughters birthday. Flavors were good, decoration was gorgeous, cake is so dense and the filling/frosting is insanely sugary. Granted, I bought it online and never tasted, I went out on a limb with a new company. So, I wouldn’t rule it out but I might order in person and be more specific. When I picked up, there were lots of tasty looking treats under the glass.

Waverly Jennings: My boyfriend and I loved mitten raised. The hearty sparty was our favorite breakfast on the weekends and the flavored cold brew drinks were amazing - they still are. However, for how often we went, our order always seemed to take the longest even though we’re ordering for just 2. People behind us were getting their orders before us. One time I was given a coffee coupon for drinks I never order, which I guess was a nice gesture for having to wait 25 minutes for my order. Their hours are horrible also. Lastly, neither my boyfriend or I were able to get cakes for our birthdays. I reached out in October for my boyfriends end of December birthday and was told they were too backed up and weren’t taking any custom orders in December. We will definitely be limiting our visits here from now on.
Hannah Wilson: Without a doubt one of my favorite places to meet up with friends or to study. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Locally owned. It’s not solely a donut shop, but I rarely walk out without a donut…for sure some of the best in the area! Truly if you’re in East Lansing- this should be on your list of places to try!
