Patient Ineed: I came here to inquire about volunteering to help those in need. I have a very strong passion for assisting those in need of mental health crisis intervention among other services that this organization claims to assist the public with. After calling the number multiple times listening to a recording stating they are open 10am to 2am, I was surprised to find nobody answered the phone and no message was able to be left. I went to the establishment and took this picture of their signage indicating “Open 24 Hours”. Apparently this is not the case because nobody was at the establishment. Finally, I reached someone by phone who confirmed nobody was present at the establishment. This place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. The access to mental health crisis centers is few and far between. Most of those in need just end up in the emergency room which is simply not the proper place for them to be. Community Mental Health is already overrun with clients and underfunded. So these places need to be ready and able to provide service to the mental health community. If this place does not grant access to the public in the manner that they advertise they should be investigated by the state. This is so unacceptable and the owners of this business should be ashamed of themselves.
jake Higman: They allowed me to feel like I could breathe again. I've been struggling with chronic pain and disability. This was the connection I needed, someone who knew what its like to struggle with a staircase at a young age. Seriously whoever I talked to calmed me down from a panic attack.
Charleen Buncic: Wow! I can't believe the Ear is still around helping the community as best they can on a volunteer basis. Criticizing these volunteers is heartbreaking!! People are there out of the kindness of their hearts and they don't deserve such negativity, but rather compassion and understanding....much like the callers are seeking. Volunteers are required to do overnight shifts so people have a place to turn 24/7. Those overnight calls can be a real challenge and this naturally affects the volunteer's sleep. They very often take calls from people who abuse the volunteer by taking advantage of and tricking them. It sucks but it is a part of the job and these volunteers are trained to handle such situations. It helps later on in life. It is a real time commitment and a sacrifice both physically and emotionally to volunteer there. I would know. I was a volunteer at the Ear way back in 1992!!!! Please, be considerate of your reviews and try to put yourself in the volunteers' position. If you want to feel better, consider volunteering there yourself. I met some incredible people while working there. My experience there helped me get through some tough stuff at that time in my life. People with struggles are hands down the best folks to help other people with struggles. So, lend a helping hand rather than hateful words....it could change your life.

Clint Edwards: I volunteered here from 2009 -2010. This organization is fantastic. They stress empathic listening and help people identify and understand underlying feelings and emotions. I see people giving negative reviews and saying that people don't answer the phone... This organization is built of strong individuals that are willing to go through 40 hours of training just to be allowed to volunteer. You have to understand many volunteers are college students. I remember being on many calls feeling guilty I had to let a few go while taking one crisis call that could last 30 minutes or more. Being the only volunteer at one time it's hard to let calls go, but when someone is truly in crisis you can't let that person go until you feel they are no longer in crisis. It's hard to do. These people truly care. They're not paid, but they want to be available for anyone who needs them. The volunteers have hearts of gold. If you need help and don't immediately get an answer, please keep trying. If you feel convicted, PLEASE volunteer. You'll never know who you can help.

Harold Watts Jr: You need to investigate you cheboygan branch I turned in what they wanted they waited a month to call and only try to get ahold of me once them waited til my paper work was old so is have to refile. I lost my food when I lost my job they told me get a new one turn in check stub and we will reopen it . But they lied and after 3 months of waiting for them I go in and they said of no we need 4 weeks worth now
