Carmen Crist: I recently went to Bohnet to buy ceiling fans, thinking I could get better advice and expertise from a local lighting store and to keep the business local. There aren't many lighting stores left in Lansing. They don't have ceiling fans but had a table by a large TV screen where a person assisted us with navigating ceiling fan options on their website (which I had already done at home). While she did assist with navigation, she didn't seem to have much knowledge or expertise related to ceiling fans.I decided to proceed with a purchase. The Bohnet website listed the fans with sale prices, giving the appearance of a sale and a deal. The two fans totaled $1,020. I was told they would ship to the store, they would check them over and let me know when I could pick them up. No estimated times given.As I left the store, I started feeling some regret, mainly because I didn't research the fans myself and didn't get expert advice to give me confidence I made a good decision. When I got home, I looked the fans up on the manufacturer's website and found what I thought were the same fans at around 55% LESS than the price I paid at Bohnet. I called and asked the same person if I was looking at the wrong fan and, if not, if there was an explanation for the difference. She said she needed to talk to the owner.She called back after talking to the owner and said they could refund the charge, but I had to drive back to the store for the transaction. When I questioned why the prices were so high, she said the owner said he can't keep track of all of the prices other places charge. I didn't get a price from a random online lighting store, I got them from the manufacturer's website. How can you not know what the manufacturer is charging for the fans you are selling?Bottom line: buyer beware. My final savings buying from the manufacturer was 62% (after a holiday discount), and I received the fans the day Bohnet was next open for us to return to the store for the credit. Charging 62% more, not seeming to care the prices were that much higher, not providing expert advice, and making people drive 25 miles for a refund is not the way to remain the last lighting store in Lansing.3/7/23 edit based on owner's response:The owner's attempt to explain and provide understanding doesn't change anything about my review. While I sympathize with the owner's situation, the review is to help people make informed buying decisions, not justify why a business is more expensive, less convenient and can't offer expertise.The bottom line is that you won't get much expertise on the products they sell, the prices will be much higher than you'll find online, and if you purchase on a credit card and want a refund, you'll have to drive to the store. He didn't refute any of those things in his response.For the owner: Hunter fans are indeed sold at Home Depot, not just Hampton Bay. If you search the HD website for Hunter fans, it returns 374 results. I was not confused about that. I asked your employee why your Hunter fans (in general, not a specific fan) were priced so much higher than Hunter fans at big box stores. With apparent reluctance/doubt, she said the parts were higher in quality. After finding the same fans on the manufacture's website to be 55% less than your prices, I think it's safe to assume the fans are not different at all. The only difference is your price. Not only did I not get expert advice, I was misled.Finally, if you had come to the counter to discuss my concerns, which you were aware of, when I came back to the store for the refund and had a conversation with me, this review may not have happened, or it may have been better. Your decision to stay in the back of the store while an employee tried to relay your explanation about not being able to keep track of every manufacturer's prices led me to conclude you were indifferent. You had a chance to build a relationship with someone who chose Bohnet over online or big box. You chose stay in the back. My one-star rating is an accurate reflection of my retail experience. I stand by it.

He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the Scott’s brand that you carry.We discussed germination rates and the use of straw versus the grass mat to hold and protect the seed.I also inquired about the availability of some metal stakes to hold down a very large, heavy-duty tarp that I am using to cover up a section of our garden to keep weeds from growing. I am downsizing the garden and will be planting grass there eventually. Brandon was able to tell me what kind of stakes he had (plastic and metal) and where they were located.I thanked him for his courteous assistance and advice. I also asked to speak to his supervisor (Brendan) to express my appreciation for Brandon’s helpfulness, but he was not in at the time I called (9:00 p.m. ).

Joana Lampe: I rented a tiller for a garden project online. Since it's a small project, we rented it for the day of. We had friends ready to help shovel and rake the compost and everything was set up. I got a reminder email for my rental and everything. Once we got there, we were told that staff "had been worried about this rental" because all the tillers were still winterized and we shouldn't have been able to even place that order. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the poor high school or college kid was getting slammed without accessible supervisor support around lunch time, but he stayed polite and apologized profusely. Not his fault, but you'd think 1) that they'd update their website, and 2) once they notice there is a problem with a reservation made 4 days in advance, that they'd reach out. This way, I had to rent from AC&E in Lansing (which I should have done in the first place, they were amazing) and do the project without the help of friends. Very unfortunate. Not impressed, Home Depot.

Sarah Flynn: We just had someone in our home for 4 hours who we thought was a plumber, PLEASE READ !!! Just had the weirdest and worst experience in my home while dealing with a contracted worker associated with Lowe’s. We requested a toilet installation through Lowe’s and was sent an employer named Michael Beesley. At the beginning Michael was doing a good job. Getting his job done without a hitch or being in anyones way. However, as the job came to a close Michael’s behavior and work became concerning; so concerning that everyone in the house became on edge and anxious with his presence. Michael stated that he had broken something on the toilet towards the end of the installation, and that it was not his problem, the inside main water valve hence shutting our water off. Even though he was a plumber, or claimed to be, he went on to say that he could not fix that for us and we had to call a plumber and pay for additional services. He proudly followed that up by saying. “Don’t even bother calling Lowe’s, corporate doesn’t want to hear from you,” not only that but when asked if he was licensed and insured he stated “I don’t even have to be.” To make matters worse, Michael continued to brag about how much money he makes as a ‘contractor’ without even having the proper schooling behind it. I am horrified with his behavior and the fact we had this man in our home. To top it off, Michael Beesley left the location without offering a refund for his botched work, or even offering other companies we could call to fix what he had done. All I am saying is never trust Lowe’s or their contractors. I will be telling everyone I know and posting on all social media platforms about how scary this situation was.

Epic fail, would have just left but I need the nails.Edit: Tried again to buy lumber, needed a board cut and an employee walked up and asked if I needed help. I started explaining and his phone beeped, ge grabbed it while I was talking and ignored me. After a moment he started walking away, looked over his shoulder and said, I need to help another customer and left. I have never been so disrespected in my life. Least if he called me N*gger first I would know he acknowledged me. I hope everyone in this store loses their job and die in squalor.

Yesterday one was actually rude on a return and nothing was out of order. I have only visited this Menards so cant speak for other stores and I rarely ask for assistance but if I do Id like to be treated pleasantly.
John Kinsora: After I spent 10 minutes looking for an item to no avail I decided to find an employee for some assistance. I came across a group of four employees having a rather inappropriate conversation and politely asked if they could point me in the right direction. Three of them we’re clueless but the fourth who was as pleasant as a rattlesnake simply pointed down an isle saying go that way it should be by the end then turned and continued with their conversation. I was a slightly annoyed by the lack of customer service but it was the last item I needed so I went to checkout. I purchased around $600 worth of building supplies and as I was leaving the store asset protection stopped me and accused me of stealing a $12 dollar pair of reading glasses I’d been using to read labels since I had forgotten mine. I understand this is their job and as a former police officer I’ve handled plenty of calls for retail theft and if he had conducted himself properly it wouldn’t have been an issue. But instead he decided to be rude, arrogant and condescending letting his little plastic asset protection id inflate his ego. After a brief argument that continued even after I made it obviously clear I hadn’t taken anything he finally realized it was time to shut his mouth and walk away, I was so annoyed by the overall experience I nearly returned everything and wish I had.

Regrettably, the product I purchased was found to be defective due to a manufacturing issue, rendering it inoperable. Despite having purchased a warranty, the establishment in question refused to honor their commitment and provide the necessary recourse, citing the unavailability of the product in question.This grossly unfair treatment was not a one-off occurrence, as a subsequent purchase of a chainsaw also proved to be similarly problematic. In this instance, the chainsaw failed to start even after an employee's intervention, yet the establishment was once again reluctant to provide the promised refund. It was only through persistent and arduous negotiation that I was able to secure the due compensation for both incidents.It is deeply concerning that the establishment's business practices have led to such distressing outcomes, which can only be described as a form of daylight robbery. However, as a tenacious and determined individual, I remained resolute in my pursuit of justice, and was able to reclaim what was rightfully mine.

The Home Depot: what do users think?
Joshua Stevens: I have never seen a store not honor their own price on their own website. And rather than resolve it, they only wanted to argue and try to blame the costumer. How ridiculous!Don’t show me one price and then change it when I come in to make the purchase.I chose a specific item based on the price, but it was ringing up 50% higher than shown online. When I asked about it, rather than acknowledging and correcting the error, the associate just made three outrageous excuses.First he said “the secret” is to know the website is ran by another vendor. Nope- that’s not for me to be concerned with.Then he tried to say it cost more because they had to keep the item on the shelf. Absurd!His last effort was to claim it was cheaper online to account for shipping. But (A) there is no shipping when picking up in-stock items at the store and (B) changing the pick-up vs shipping options did not change the price of the item.Despite pointing all this out—which a customer shouldn’t even have to do—the associate continued to argue, make excuses, and make this all my problem to solve.So I did: I left the items behind and will purchase them from a competing store who can at least do the bare minimum of honoring their own price.I’ll never shop with Home Depot again.

My daughter was soo disappointed and crying for long time. It’s so hard to watch as a parent. Isaac24: Don't expect to see something that is in stock online and go and buy it, even if "15 are in stock" online. They NEVER WILL BE. This has been my experience with the last few years of going here. The Waverly one is somehow better. Shame because this HD is the only big box store near me, so if I want to go to HD (let's be honest, with multiple Menards in town, there's really no reason to go to HD) I'd rather drive 20 minutes and go to the Waverly one, that I have never had issues with. One of the many reasons I dislike HD as a chain .

Michael Tuell: Installed water heater through contractor, who did not pull a required permit, causing fines. If you have Home Depot install something, make sure their contractor pulls any required permits, as Home Depot does not.

Maybe the person who did this used glue to shut the box?!The 3rd person who came to tell me they couldn't do anything started screaming and telling me to leave after I said, "I didn't steal the soccer net" she screamed that I put words in her mouth, she never said that" and I needed to leave!!!!Not helping a costumer with a weird situation like this, saying there's nothing they can do is implying I took out the net and threw in that stuff.I asked for her manager, she laughed and said he's not in. I asked for her name and she laughed. I asked the employee sitting and laughing what was the others women's name and she just laughed at me too.I did take a picture to show management who all had been "helping me" but deleted because it didn't help the situation 😬It was a TERRIBLE experience and I'm thankful for the one and ONLY Professional who helped at the end. 30 minutes later I left with a new soccer net and we opened to make sure it was in there before heading back home.The world is broke and people don't give two hoots about anyone else's time but their own. Staff goes into it annoyed and ready to fight. This will be an experience I won't forget.
