Jim Larue: I found myself in the Lansing area, needing a room, but without a reservation anyplace. Originally targeting a budget place like a Red Roof Inn, I learned a couple of popular shows were in town, and lots of the usual lodging was booked. That's when I found the Candlewood. The staff was very friendly. The room's features reminded me if a Hilton Garden Inn or Marriott Courtyard than a Red Roof room. My room had a kitchenette, so meals could be prepared if I had planned ahead. This would be a great place to stay for a week or a long weekend. There were some basics for sale in a lobby area, such as prepackaged cereal, milk, microwave popcorn, etc., but far better would be to bring groceries from home or hit a local grocery store. The bed was comforatable. Everything was super clean. This hotel a little out of our way but every hotel in the area was booked solid. Nice staff (a little overwhelmed with all the last-minute bookings), clean/spacious room, and very quiet. Poetic Oddities: My girlfriend and I have recently been displaced due to flooding and mold that was growing in our ceiling unbeknownst to us in our apartment. After much haggling, our apartment complex finally agreed to get us a hotel room for the night since our entire apartment smelled of mold. Our apartment complex was going to pay for this room until we found out that we can’t check in if you’re under 21. My girlfriend and I are both 19. After a long confusing day, I called this hotel (the one my apartment sent us to) and explained our situation. The first woman I talked to was very nice and asked for us to just wait while she transferred the line, however, the second person I spoke to was very rude and told us under no circumstances were we allowed into the hotel without “adult” supervision.I understand that rules are rules. I’m not upset that they were unable to accommodate us, but the way we were spoken to was absolutely unacceptable. Especially since we were just looking for a bit of guidance.

Monica Slone: I have been coming to this hotel on and off since 2004. Honestly back then it was 100,000 times worse. I was here in the summer of 2020 We were running out of cash and options. The staff blessedly did not give our room that we had checked out of that morning and accepted payment from.a local organization. Now we're here again in 2023. Since then the entire look of the hotel has really changed alot. The blankets are way better. Much softer. Outside they now have bags for people whom have dogs can dispose of and management is pretty strict about it. Mr. Brendan ( Mr. B) is a fair and good manager. He's very present, he walks around the property daily engaging with guests and staff. I think they're great because they work with Advent Ministries and St. Gerards to help families in need of immediate housing. People complain about kids running and things like that, but it's a hotel. Security is becoming top notch also. There are cameras installed on every building now and it's also very well lit. I see staff almost around the clock walking around and still grabbing trash, towels etc, that guests just toss outside their door. So, everywhere you go people will clash and want to complain.

Katie Stollar: We was charged twice the amount listed online due to it being a graduation weekend for MSU. They also wanted 100 cash deposit which was to be returned after checking out. The room was decent but looked grubby in the corners. The mirror over the vanity for the bathroom had 2 large holes behind it which extended down below the frame. The cable wire for the TV was just laying on the floor next to the door for the adjoining room. If you was using both rooms it would of tripped you (or kids) over and over.The breakfast they offered was great the next day.Upon checking out the man at the desk gave us the run around about returning the deposit. He called the housekeeping who claimed we was still in the room. He threatened to have us escorted from the building and keep the 100 cash deposit. After another call to housekeeper and him informing her that we was at the front desk and not in the room she then verified we left the room and the deposit could be returned.After such a hassle and being overcharged from the online price I will personally never go back to this placeEdit to add:Owner response seemed pretty much computer generated, much like the many other reviews. Clearly they have no plans to remedy the issues or make it right with the people they've done wrong. I for one would like some sort of refund, given the fact we paid double what was advertised and then asked for a cash deposit
Yvonne Ramos: Not sure if they are going through a remodel, but our room was horrible. Stains on carpet, bathroom floor very dirty, poor lighting, poor air circulation, outdated everything. I was upset to have spent that amount of money on an extremely low quality room.It wasn't the staff's fault. Everyone was very kind.
Jacob Nepochatov: In summary, the place is a good deal if all you want is a bed, but do not expect the hotel to be even remotely "nice."The good:-really convenient location-ample parking-easy check in/out-friendly staff-comfy bedsThe bad:-extremely outdated building with dark creepy corridors (especially at night)-Stench of chlorine throughout halls because pool is not in a separate area from the rooms. It's all kinda under one roof it's weird..-there is no water station so they CHARGE for water bottles at the front desk-room phone was dead-my blanket had a coffee stain (I hope)-cherry on top was our room had a window which only looked into the corridor outside the door. I realized, even with the curtains closed, someone could see both beds through the mirror on the wall. So basically expect to have very little privacy in your room someone can just peep in if they want.

C J: What a disappointing experience. The place is old and dirty. Broken wall pieces, cracks, bed bugs, and very unprofessional. We went there for my daughter's 13th birthday. I reserved 2 rooms a month in advance. Honestly it's hard for me to even put into words how bad the manager Ron treated us and how unprofessional he was. I finished my check in, which was not the best experience. The girls went up to their room and my son and I finished bringing our stuff in. We had one balloon that was a table centerpiece that said happy birthday and one case of cupcakes, 3 presents and then our bags and snacks etc. As my son and I are walking the manager Ron stops me in my tracks as he is standing at the door of another clients hotel room arguing with her. He then proceeds to tell me no birthday stuff and I will get kicked out. He was so unprofessional. He wouldn't let me speak he wouldn't let me go collect the girls so we could discuss the situation. It was either get rid of every single bday thing including the cupcakes gifts all of it or get kicked out. No where on the reservations email or the website did it say you could not bring this stuff but he kept repeating it was on the web. By this time we are in the lobby I'm in tears, he is still talking over me being rude and unprofessional. Let me mention when we arrived there was a large group probably 10 adults a few teenagers etc in the common area by the pool with open beer cans, a case of beer on the table and a radio going. Then they brought out a TV!!! Ridiculous. Honestly if I had more time I would give more details but I'm so over the money and effort I put into this already. I have pictures of my confirmation and screen shots of the website and pics of the bed bugs etc I will be sharing and contacting corporate. Ron the manager is an arrogant, intimidating, unprofessional manager. He was eating behind the checkout counter, laughing acting like whatever. It was such a bad experience.

Victoria Butler: We had a great stay at HomeTowne. We stayed in an ADA room and my partner had his first shower in a very long time. He was in there for over an hour and the water never lost temperature. The room size and layout allowed me to easily move him around in a wheelchair and hoyer lift. The staff were all really great. We dealt mostly with Ryan who was wonderful during our stay, but every staff member we saw were kind and personable.
Emily Hinks: If it wasn't for someone else booking this hotel, I would have never agreed to stay in such a dump of a place. The hotel has nice rooms and looks great! I'll give them that. Red Roof, anything you always expect things to be dirty and they were! The hallways/ stairway looked like no one knew how to vacuum them. The entire building smelled like weed. We had to move rooms, because of it. We drove 9 hours, so after we ate, I wanted to take a shower. I noticed hair was on the floor, but the worst part was the hair on wash rag...... cobwebs on the floor by the HVAC unit. The second room was an improvement. My only complaint was the floor. My socks picked up a ton of dirt. There was a sign put up about being under construction. Please don't mind our dust. However, there wasn't any construction, and that's a poor, lazy excuse for a dirty hotel.Maybe some ventilation, new cleaning staff and cookware, cups, coffee pot, and silverware. meranda white: They pick and choose who does and does not have to pay a deposit, I suspect based on skin color because as long as it was just me, no deposit was required but as soon as they saw my boyfriend, they then required a $50 deposit, literally the next evening. When I asked about the policy, I was put on the Do Not Rent to list apparently yet they cannot explain why nor give me anything to show that I am on the list. The front desk manager Josh was adamant that he didn’t have to have a reason.

Michael Gonzalez: Did not have the anemities that was advertised on the booking site (pool, free breakfast, snack area, hot tub) the room was ok but the bathroom fan was loud and always running with no way to turn them off. Hallways was very dirty as was the stairways and their was paint chips and also missing wall trims along the stair hallways. Look like the hotel was not kept up considering that it's a long stay hotel, no cleaning or vacuuming in the hallways. Would not recommend it. Would not give us our refund because they stated that it's not their fault of what 3rd Party advertised. So we called the site who made our booking and made sure we got our money back.

Stephen Kievit: Went here for a conference. What I saw of this place is that it is very run down. The back parking lot where we were told to park was nothing but big pot holes. They always took the time to greet us and asked how our stay was going. We also enjoyed the breakfast in the mornings! Valarie Wardle: Afternoon and morning staff were wonderful, talkative, helpful, just sweet! The room was big with walk in closet, CLEAN, bed and pillows were very comfortable! Would definitely recommend! Oh and breakfast, fried eggs, Biscuits, gravy, hashbrowns, oatmeal bar, toast bar, cereal and fresh fruit. They do have a fridge with milk, yogurt and Jimmy Dean sandwiches. You can also purchase snacks and frozen meals!
Marlene T: Worst hotel experience EVER. Day staff was awesome but night staff was the complete opposite. At 10:45pm we were accused by Kerra the so-called manager of making too much noise which we were not. We didn't even have the TV on. We were sitting in our room having a normal conversation. She called and came to our room claiming she was standing outside our door listening. She left and shortly after called again and told us she was calling the police. A short while later the police arrived. If this is the way Marriott is going to treat their guests then I have no interest staying at any of your establishments ever again. Being from out of state with a student at MSU and having visited the area many many times we've stayed at several hotels and we've never been treated like this. She had the worst attitude and was the most unreasonable person I've ever encountered. Couldn't even talk to her because she talked right over us. Don't waste your time with this place when there are much better options.

David Valentine II: Kierra is the bomb! Great customer service. She was very accomdative with the recent icestorm to hit us in Michigan. She took great care to make sure that myself and 6 other family members were able to get reservations. The hotel is clean. New - less than 4 years old. Love the design and layout of the room. Attention to detail by Wendy, the room attendant, is superb. Love this hotel. Definitely recommending it. Vanda was also a great help and resource as a receptionist.
Desai Negrelli: I had a hotel booked at Springhill Suites by Marriot in East Lansing, Michigan for two night. We get to the hotel and the front desk employee, Vanda, told us that our room was canceled. She calls her supervisor to find out details and then tells me it was canceled a few days ago by “Mr. Negrelli”. My husband, the real Mr. Negrelli, doesn’t even know what hotel I’m staying at so I know it wasn’t him. Vanda was immediately defensive and insinuating that I was lying and we had canceled the room. There were no more available rooms, we had to find a last minute Airbnb, and Vanda says we will not be refunded our money because it was a non-refundable booking. I did not cancel this room. My husband did not cancel this room (he wasn’t even on the reservation so he shouldn’t have been able to anyways). I didn’t receive a cancellation email. Vanda said that there was no email with this reservation. Then how did I get a confirmation email and an email yesterday asking if I wanted to check in early? I have a feeling they overbooked or canceled it by mistake because all the hotels in the area are booked or closed due to Lansing losing power in the storm. I can accept that a mistake may have been made and wouldn’t have been this disappointed if the customer service was kind and understanding. Vanda was unpleasant. I want my money refunded for the room I didn’t stay get and I didn’t cancel. The hotel gave away my room.

Angela D: We had a room with 2 Queen beds. We were in town to explore MSU campus. Location in relation to campus is good. 30 minute walk to the shopping district. Room was very nice...we were pleasantly surprised by how large it was. Big walk-in closet, lounge/sitting area separate from beds with sliding partition over desk to use for privacy between the two areas. small fridge and microwave were handy.My only complaints were:1) they did a very shoddy job installing the light fixture in the bathroom. As i was getting ready for bed i realized the entire cover of the ~3' long ceiling light was hanging down out of the ceiling and could have fallen on my head. looks like it had fallen out before and they tried to repair it with some pink stringy glue substance that didn't hold. My son was able to reach it to push it up into the ceiling and then the whole thing just fell out.2) Marriott doesn't give points if you book through 3rd party. I didn't know that. I've not come across this issue with other hotel lines.3) starting around 11pm and going until about 3 or 4 am there were trains passing by the hotel (hourly) and blasting their whistles. They were so loud that when i was asleep it woke me up and was very scary...i actually thought maybe our window was open or busted out. They really should have insulated better knowing how close they are to that train.It is for the last point that i give it 3 stars. for light sleepers, this hotel should be a no-go. Maybe the other side of the hall would be better? We were on the even side - rm 402.
Kari Gingrich: IT IS NOW JANUARY AND THIS HOTEL STILL HAS NOT CORRECTED OUR ISSUE OF BEING CHARGED 2 TIMES NOW THEY HANG UP WHEN WE CALL TO TRY TO GET IT RESOLVED! We are having huge issues with this hotel. We got there to check in Saturday they said the reservation wasnt completed properly but we were charged. So they found a different room not what we wanted and not the right size for our group amd she insisted they would get a refund and charged us again to check us in and stated we would get a really good discount for our issues but we did not get a really good deal. So now we have spent all day trying to get a refund and were given all kinds of different numbers still no refund. So now we have paid 2 times for the wrong room and are getting the run around from the hotel. This isn't over
