We were SUPER lucky to have Natalia as a piano teacher for my 6-year-old daughter during 2017-2018 academic year we spent in East Lansing. After our sabbatical, we moved back to Austin, TX and still could not find even a closer match. Here is why.Natalia is a high level professional: PhD in music from Michigan State, winner of the numerous competitions and an active performer with diverse repertoire. Those achievements translate into exceptional teaching. Natalia has highly effective methodology to teach kids reading notes. My daughter learned how to read notes within 4 months!Natilia is well organized and focused. Every minute of the class is absolutely well spent. She balances theory and practice nicely as well as concentrates on both: technique and musicality.On top of that, Natalia is emotionally invested in every student and knows how to motivate them. My daughter is naturally smart and got used to the fact that many things come easy to her in school. At the same time, my daughter quickly realized that “good enough” attitude dominant in school will not work in her music classes. She realized that she needs to work toward perfection, otherwise the sound is not beautiful. Our learning journey was not always smooth, but I am so glad that Natalia was able to motivate my daughter. Natalia found music pieces my daughter was eager to play – waltz and jazz. She was so excited and proud of herself that she even performed those pieces in front of her school class.Natalia has a sweet personality, but she is a demanding instructor, who kept my daughter on the edge of her abilities. X C Y: Shawn went to America four years ago and we were so lucky to have met Natalia in Community Music School. She is a such a beautiful teacher, beautiful in her skill and in mind. Even today Shawn still remembers Natalia's wonderful piano class and the Concert Natalia had organized for Nepal earthquake. Shawn learned a lot from dear Natalia and even today has still kept a great enthusiam for piano and music. He has passed ABRSM piano performance test for Grade 8 with distinction(135 points out of 150 points). And several months ago, he also had his own piano concert for 30 minutes and got his ARSM diploma with distinctoin (46 points out of 50 points) . Now he is Shawn ARSM! Ann Kronrod: We have 4 girls and all 4 of them took lessons with Natalia. The year before that they all had lessons with another teacher and at the end of the year i felt that none of them made any progress - they didn't know how to read notes, they were playing simple and non-inspiring pieces, quite dully actually. When we started to work with Natalia, I saw a quick change: first, the girls started loving music. They started singing. They started listening to music more. They even composed some pieces on their own. At the end of the year the girls played with passion, emotion and technique they did not have before. We then relocated to another state and the girls did not continue to learn piano. Three of the girls went on to learn other instruments besides piano: guitar, ukulele and drums. But 3 years after we left, one of the girls asked to have piano lessons again and her level was so high that she was admitted to the local piano guild. The youngest of my daughters joined a chorus where they had to read notes, and even though 3 years have passed, she remembered note reading. john houghtaling: I enrolled my twin daughters with “Mr. Xavier” last year and he was just amazing with them. He is a great piano teacher and musician but more than that is his ability to connect with the kids. They were always excited to see him and he engaged well with them. I would typically sit outside the room during their lessons and listen. He was always polite, friendly, and very positive with them. Even on their bad days he would encourage and support them. He would ask them about their weeks at school and other activities to get them talking and engaged. The end of year recital was masterfully done and made all the kids feel so good. He was also very flexible with doing zoom lessons if we were out of town or needed to reschedule. My kids loved their time with Teclado and Xavier. They both cried after their last day with him as did my wife and I. And we were only with him for a year! So sorry to see him move from the area. We will miss him and would recommend him to anyone wanting to get started with piano lessons.
