Tiffany Dobbins: This is one of those places where you have to know what they do best. In a party of 9 only 1 person enjoyed their food. We waited over an hour for the food and it was not worth the wait...at all! All of the food did not have any flavor, the oxtails were extremely small(the smallest I have ever seen), the rice and peas were crunchy, beef in the stew was overcooked, flavorless wings and the list goes on.The coco bread and jollof rice was good.Lastly, they do have happy hour, however, the time is not correct on the menu and this was not communicated until after the bill came. I do not recommend.

Amy C: I drove all the way to this restaurant to get Authentic African meat pie. I got home, opened my order and found beef patties that they sell at K &F on 9 mile rd for $1. People come to the restaurant for authentic food. If you don’t want to make authentic meat pies then don’t sell those beef patties for $5. I called and spoke with the manager who said “ oh those are jamaican meat pies.” Why would you sell Jamaican meat pie as African meat pies? Who does that? What a terrible experience. I have those beef patties from K&F African market on 9 mile and coolidge in my freezer . I won’t be coming back. I do not recommend. It’s a rip off.

Joyce N.: The overall experience was good. Our server Cousin was very friendly and accommodating. She provided service with a smile and great attitude. The food (oxtails and jollof rice) was tasty and flavorful, although a little too spicy for me. It was a nice surprise that Kola had live entertainment. We had a great time on a Wednesday evening.

Antonio Ledbetter8: First time here. Customer service wasn't bad. But I would NOT recommend eating here. I lost appetite immediately. Chicken was not fresh, one piece was burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside. All peices were dry not edible in my opinion. Rather than get a refund I figured this instead. Go to Maty's nearby or my favorite spot KG's African & American grill in Garden City.
D D: Once tried to use the Groupon for there and the cashier looked at me like I was crazy. Told me to call the manager. Could never get thru to manager. Or come back at a certain time...why would I come back at that point. If a restaurant has offers make sure your staff knows..
KYAKUNZIRE BAEDUC-2024: Such a wonderful place! As everyone has said it is soooo romantic.
Aliou Ba: Very good
Angelina Canty: New to me but food was tasty but it was hot and spicy. Too hot for me. Didn't like couscous. It was hot.Features: Some booth seating. The business next door was a problem for me. Parking was limited. Owner was pleasant and helpful in this new experience.. cost was good.
christina stuart: Jerked chicken and rice was absolutely amazing
Keyshawn Taylor: Great food kind of pricey
Gustavia Jones: Food is pretty good. But BEWARE The African hustle stereotype holds true here!!Ask for total multiple times and Pay with cash!! We bought $70 worth of food on card and 10 minutes after leaving was alerted was charged $85 from kalahari restaurant. 🤨 what the what?? 😡😡. Why my brother why?WE spent good with you.BASICALLY food is good if that's what you're looking for but BE PREPARED TO CONFIRM YOUR PRICE AND PAY WITH CASH !!
atiyah bey: people in the reviews saying this place is bad, must've come here on a bad day cause the food is excellent. seasoned so well, very flavorful and don't forget to get a homemade drink like bissap. delicious 🙏🏿
Hurricane Katrina: Love the food been there a few times I wish I could go everyday food is very healthy the prices are reasonable for the amount of food that you get

Isla Detroit: what do users think?
Michael Ma: An island in the middle of Sterling Heights. Very very good food! I stopped in and tried the Tropical Ube Cake, Buko Halo Halo, and the crispy pork. The pork was amazingly crispy, even more than a pork rind. The Buko Halo Halo had such good sweet flavors too.Highly recommend this place if you want something different and tasty!
Samah Gabrail: I had a really good and positive experience at Isla Filipino Cuisine. This was my first time trying Filipino food and my first time at this restaurant. The owners of the restaurant were really nice and professional. The restaurant was clean. The food and desserts were really good. The service was excellent. I highly recommend this place. Keep up the good work 👍👍
Ashley Lynn: Delicious food! I loved my meal and my bfs. They give you quite a bit of food so it's worth the price.
Craig M.: Drove 20 minutes to meet a friend arrived well before the posted closing to a piece of paper on the window saying closed just on Saturday if they're going to close they should update the internet as most people use the internet to check on a restaurant before they go there very disappointed. I was looking forward to trying Filipino cuisine, probably won't go back. Don't like my time being wasted.
A Z: To start off, the dessert was amazing, but everything else was pretty lacking for me sadly. Upon entering the store, there wasn't anyone at the counter until a few minutes later. I ordered the chicken Adobo, and sadly it tasted pretty mediocre, a little too salty if anything. It was just a bunch of rice and chicken and a little pricy, but nothing too special sadly. I do appreciate the generous amount of chicken and rice that was given, so much that I made a second meal out of it for dinner, but I just wish there was more flavor to it. That's just my opinion though, you might really like it! Highly recommend the dessert though!
Amy Babcock: The food here's fantastic, and I absolutely loved my time dining here. While the place isn't that big, it has large portions and a decent menu. The only thing their missing is fountain pop, but they do bring out big jugs of water for your table.Place isn't cheap, but you do get a ton of food. Even for the heartiest of appetites', you'll still bring home leftovers.
Lily C.: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Tropical Ube Cake, Pancit Bihon, Adobo, Chicken AdoboMore

Shawn Kind: Great service wonderful food We really enjoyed my wife's birthday at this fantastic Filipino restaurant in Sterling heightsWheelchair accessibility: I saw a ramp and the door looks accessible for a wheelchair
William Vosotros: I’ve visited them a few times when they were still in downtown Detroit. Their menu seems to get shorter on this new location. Nevertheless, I always order their pork & beans, & it doesn’t disappoint as always. My friends tend to have a not-so-good review of this place but I always end up leaving full & satisfied.
Winter Rose: Amazing food. We had chicken adobo and the Pancit. Will definitely be back. The couple that run it were very sweet too. We're excited to try the Halo Halo next time.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Chicken Adobo, Pancit Palabok …More
Lawrence: So good! Just what we needed. Been living in the Metro Detroit area and so glad to have a go-to place to have some Filipino food!
Ay Nako!: . We found this restaurant from a Google search and decided to drive the additional 15 or so minutes to give it a try. My wife was born and raised in the Philippines, so she is always looking for Filipino restaurants, as we lack such places in the Cincinnati area. Anyway, Isla has the best chicken inasal I've had since our last Philippines visit in 2016! I only wished the portion was larger, but any remaining space in my stomach was quickly filled with an amazing banana fritter. I must also mention that the spicy sauce we got with the chicken inasal is easily one of the best sauces I've ever tasted in my life (and I am a huge sauce person
Reneh Gelladuga: Delicious. Tasted like home. Came on a Wednesday and it was nice and slow. Inside is super clean and modern, there’s about five small tables and another seating area near the window, so be conscious of what day and time you’re coming. We dined in and were given menus and were told to come back up front when ready to order. We chose the chicken inasal and lechon kawali. For desert I was originally going to choose the Cashew Sans Rival that was on their little dessert sheet, but luckily Tita Jacqueline asked if we wanted Turon and or Halo Halo, we said yes to both and was not disappointed.Food took about 15 minutes, but Filipino food can take a long time to cook, so I was happy to wait. The food was amazing. It tasted like home, and it was certainly made with love. The portions are perfect. Lechon wasn’t too salty, but still had a crispy bite. Inasal was packed with flavor. And I don’t know what it is about their white jasmine rice, but it tasted wonderful, the fried garlic bits on top really made a difference.Tita Jacqueline also seemed to be conscious of the time frame of where we were in our meal, because just as we were finishing up our entrees, the Halo Halo and Turon were being served. I really really appreciated that it timed out like that.Halo Halo was delicious (and messy as it should be) and the Turon was perfectly cooked. The Halo Halo tasted like the ones from home. And I appreciated the flaky, not overly sweet Turon.I felt as though the prices were a tad bit expensive, but I know Filipino food can require a lot of time and resources to cook to make it taste properly. The Owners were very nice and friendly, and I can’t wait to see them again when I have another pinoy food craving. The palabok and Batchoy is next on my list!
Nia H: Amazing food!!
Avinash Maddu: Recommended dishes Chicken Inasal with a Side of House Salad, Buko Halo HaloMore

Kristin Roberts: They know what they are doing. I love the shrimp palabok, spaghetti and chicken wings, pork and chicken adobo.Best dessert is the cashew sans rival and the jackfruit one!I literally keep coming back to them cuz they are that good!
Savannah Byrd: This place is a hidden gem. I’ve been a few times now and can’t say enough about it. The chicken adobo and turon dessert are my favorites. For takeout, it can take a while so order well in advance. The wait is definitely worth it though.Recommended dishes Chicken Adobo …More

Jahzara Sushaunna: Just got a carry out. My acara taate like it was fried in fish grease. My bbq chicken taste like it had pork in it. The chicken was dry and smothered in bbq sauce. I was super disappointed and will not be going back.
Ryan: Placed an order online during their business hours, when I showed up to the store the doors were locked with no signage or anything as to why they were closed. They processed my order and took the payment but there was no way to cancel the order, request a refund, or even contact them.
Lara Dmitruchina: Delicious food with good portions that never disappoint. The oxtails, chicken, rice, yam stew, crispy chickpeas, and corncakes are always amazing and are reasonably priced, usually producing 1-2 servings of leftovers as well. This has become a go-to restaurant for me, with even better quality than their Woodward location. Would recommend for parties, gatherings, or just anytime you want a delicious and hearty meal!

Just wish the scaffolding was not there but heard it will be there till at least February or MarchDietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free, halal, vegetarian and vegan options to select from
Blessed Blessed: Rice was to bland and had a bad taste to it, plantain was not fresh. Not a true African restaurant. If you want a true African restaurant experience with great food go to Maty’s in Detroit.
Lex Moss: First time I stopped by it was kind of a mess, and the ordering process was honestly pretty confusing. Workers were really nice and the food was ok. Figure they’re just starting up and need some time to figure things out still. Went back about a month later and they had no chicken, everyone seemed very disorganized. Idk, hard to recommend right now but I hope they get it sorted because I love some jerk chicken.
Tobey Rhodeo: Love the food here very good
Ed Cullen: Delicious jerk chicken!
internetboy: Such a nice place, great food, one suggestion 😭PLEASE put a big "grand re-opening" sign or something out front. i can't tell you how many people didnt know this place was open around the neighborhood. also posting your menu on the window or something inviting would be awesome because it's quite a new style of food for alot of people here (also it is so cute inside!)anyways, please come here. they even have chicken and waffles, and juices sometimes! such a great addition to the bland restaurants around indian village.tldr: great food, plz promote more)
Mohsen Jaafar: A new location to one of the best restaurants in Detroit. I love restaurants that value quality and have individuals who are invested in the success of the place, and YumVillage is exactly that. Promised to serve one of the most delicious, well-seasoned, and hearty dishes you could ever desire, you are doing yourself a disservice not making this place your go-to destination. 10/10
Thaddaeus Beals: This place has it all! Best jerk chicken!

Daviyana Keith: If I could give this a 0 star I would! I’m normally easy to please. The room was fine until I saw the sheets ! What’s the point of hiring people to clean if they half way do their job. I’m definitely getting my money back from this nasty place!!!!!! READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU BOOK !
Dezmond Hill: Great food , excellent service....I'm a fan now !Vegetarian options: I ordered salmon croissant

Brand Blouse-Moore: Had the catfish, which didn’t taste too good, & my collard greens had a bone in them. It caused injury to the roof of my mouth. The bar tender acted like retrieving tartar sauce was pulling teeth. Rude & hateful: the group of two black women next to me, who came in after me, received their food first! Don’t go in there if you’re lacking melanin…
Kaiyana Black: And not quite sure why it's called the soul of Detroit seeing as though it's not in "Detroit" But I guess some souls do travel. Atmosphere was okay nothing really charming or different about it The food was very subpar I had catfish that I'm almost sure with "swai"( because it tasted different from my friends catfish nuggets) potatoes( we're very thick) and fried okra was okay! A friend of mine got some oxtails and they were not good at all I don't even know why they would purchase any oxtails. The comedians were very good and hilarious so we did have a great time I myself just had a glass of Cabernet. My recommendation would be to Get the money at the door and also if you're going to be paying using The online method would be to Check out at the door like Sam's club because not everyone is integris is my group 😉 I would attend again for the comedy show but I would not eat any food That was a waste of my money 😔
Patis Ivy: Got there it took 20-30 minutes to be seated our food came out 1 hour and 30 min later and meatloaf was cold our server never came back to the table my friend had the salmon croquettes and they were fried in fish batter and tasted like other fish they cooked in old grease
Francis Ritter: The experience was aweful. Salmon was terrible, garlic mash potatoes was cold, greens were bad, Mac & cheese was dry.And you pay a cover charge for the band. What the hell is that! Never again.
Edwin Bolds: Was kinda disappointed, going to give it another shot try something different.
Dabrielle Riley: Needs to be closed down!!! Service was terrible had to leave before I told them how bad they were, only 5 people in the restaurant and I’ve been for 30 minutes with no one saying anything to us. The waitress was dragging her feet didn’t ask us what we wanted to drink and there’s not even a bartender in there, SHUT I DOWN
Ju Harden: Food was good, price to portion ratio was off
Kayla Jordan-Brazell: Food was everything plus someService was greatFood came fast & was freshThe reviews had me scared to even goNow this is going to be one of my go to spots from now on

Zarius Davis: Delicious food, Great hospitable service from T and a vibe that feels very much Detroit soul!
Teresa Smith: This is my 2nd time coming here and the service was not good 😐 but the food took forever to get to us. It's a shame to cause the band was awesome
Ronald WILLIAMS JR: Great Service
Patrick Garth: Live music was a whole vibe. Customer service and the food was great. I’ll definitely be a regular here.
Rita Pierce: Great Live music
Peggy Clark: June 5,2022 First & last time!!!To start off we arrived @ 5:45 pm we seated ourselves, we received our water in a glass & when asked for a beverage we received it in a plastic cup (dine in service) we ordered the collard green dip received it 25 minutes later then we placed our order around 6:15pm still waiting on silverware for our appetizer 6:45 still waiting on our meal so I told the waitress just put it in a carry out about 6:57 we just got our food to go (food) turkey chips was dry Mac & cheese was bland & yams was very tasteless I end up tossing my food we spent $65.00 on food we could not enjoy. During our time there several customers walked out.
