Devin Broaddus: Birth is a very intimate experience. You’re completely exposed and vulnerable, and it’s important to feel comfortable with everyone you invite into your space. From my initial meeting with Marcie, I felt instantly comfortable. She was very warm and supportive of my vision of what I wanted from my labor/delivery. As a labor and delivery nurse myself , I respected her knowledge of the field and all the associated medical jargon. I could converse with her like I would my colleagues.Even before she was officially “on call,” Marcie was checking in on me and baby to see how everything was progressing. Once on call at 38 weeks, we were in contact nearly everyday. After some unforeseen potential complications, Marcie was very supportive and comforting. Some days, I can truly say she was that voice of validation that I needed to push through the day.The day finally arrived and we made a plan for when she would arrive to the hospital. Unfortunately, my labor stalled out a few hours after her arrival, but Marcie never seemed aggravated or appeared as if she was watching the clock. As things got more intense I don’t think I was even aware of her presence in the room. She blended in and in no way did Dad or myself feel like an intruder was in our face with a camera. Things once again took an unexpected turn for the worse, but never once did I sense any anxiety from Marcie. She remained very calm when the room was in a complete uproar. That night, the next day, and throughout the first week she texted with sincere concern regarding the well-being of myself and baby.Overall, I got more than I ever anticipated from my birth photography experience. The photos that Marcie captured tell me my birth story (because I was in no capacity to remember!) It is amazing how she managed to capture the essence of every single emotion during those agonizing hours. She provided a few images promptly for me to use for an announcement and delivered the rest quicker than anticipated. I will treasure her work for a lifetime. Marcie truly goes above and beyond for her clients and I’d recommend her to anyone looking for birth photography!
