This has happened twice now.)edit: I see in your reply you have options for reduced wait time. That certainly would've been helpful to know before I was repeatedly given wildly inaccurate estimates of the wait time!Is there an option on your website that will allow you to offer me a debt consolidation loan for at least the balance of the credit cards you'd like me to close as a stipulation of the loan? You know, so it's possible for me to close the cards as you required? Or are you under the impression that I came to you for a loan that I already had the money for? Imagine my frustration waiting two hours in order for a bank to offer me something that basic arithmetic would tell you is impossible. $4000 will not close credit card accounts with a balance of $6000. The fact that I had to explain that to your employee (who still did not understand) speaks volumes.

Richard Welch: I did have an account here, until a "guardian" was appointed to me. She, the "guardian" removed all of "my" money from my account and because of that the account was closed.
Alexander Harmata: Easy to deal with and good for checking but they offer very low yielding savings accounts. Use online banks if you want a savings, CD, or money market account. Otherwise you might as well burn your money.

I worked with Brian Lucido; he was really friendly and helpful (which was especially useful since I'm young and I still have a lot to learn when it comes to finances). He even gave me great advice about college life and spending! I look forward to a great relationship with this credit union and I would definitely recommend their service to others!

Nicholaus Zinis: I initially wanted to give negative stars in my blind rage at a situation that happened to me at the credit union today. To say I was lividpissed would be an understatement. That being said the people I was dealing with in the branch absolutely went above and beyond my expectations in correcting the situation. And they did it with in hours of the mistake being made. To be clear a machine made the mistake. In retrospect I am very happy with this place and how they handled everything and would definitely recommend everyone too go to this branch of you are shoping for a financial institution.

Sonny's Mom: At one time this was a great credit union. Recent "improvements" make it worse and worse. The straw breaking the camel's back is there is no longer after-hours deposit capabilities. THE TOUCH SCREENS DO NOT WORK. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO GIVE UP AND DRIVE AWAY. I TRIED ONCE MORE TODAY AND IT COMPLAINED I WASNT RESPONDING AND KEPT MY CARD AND THE CHECK I WAS TRYING TO DEPOSIT, WITHOUT MAKING THE DEPOSIT BECAUSE APPARENTLY I WAS A SECURITY RISK BY NOT ENTERING REPLIES ON THE TOUCH SCREEN. WELL, IT IT WORKED I WOULD HAVE. The old system was better. If the ATM was not working it would display a sign. Now it appears to be functional but the touchscreens are useless. Another great innovation. Goodbye UMCU
Matt M: Not only do you have to wait on the phone for over a half hour every time you call, but the ATM at this location is often down with no sign or warning until you get through the entire process.UMCU used to be a great credit union. In the last several months it's gone down a steep cliff. I'd avoid this credit union and find a different one.
Gene A: Slowest Drive thru service I know. 2x had to wait over 20 min before 10 am. at the State Street Branch. 7-8 employee cars in rear, no customer cars out front. 1 person working 2 lanes. 1 lane closed, 6-7 cars backed up. Today I was the 3rd person to leave after 1 moved 1 spot in 25 min. 5 cars still waiting. Why they can't add 1 person and open up the third lane when they clearly have staff in the building to do so is beyond me. You think they'd get better at this.
Adam Burak: Avoid like the plague if you want to do something besides online banking or if you have other options. Scheduling an appointment several days in advance is required to visit a branch in person, and they may not have appointments at branches near you. The drive through typically takes over an hour and calling customer service takes 15-30 minutes to get in touch with someone. They do shared ATMs but no shared branching. The ATMs frequently refuse deposits in cash. I understand that the covid makes things difficult. However, one would think after a year things would improve, and if anything they've gotten worse. I have been a member of four CUs and two banks. UMCU is by far the worst, and that includes Zions bank who was sued for stealing from their members. At least there you could access your account, though it may be a little smaller than you anticipated.

Amanda Bates, LLMSW: The bank started a new online system, which requires all members to enroll in. It requires an account number, but I do not know mine. I have tried calling multiple times today, and the line is either busy, or says “the line was not picked up”. This is ridiculous. There was not even an option to leave a voice message. So basically, I have zero access to my banking account right now. And going in person will take hours due to the slow pace of the employees.

Jonathan Frontier: Awful. I have an auto loan with this bank. They offered me the opportunity to skip a payment for a $30 fee. I payed the fee and they took the money out of my account anyway, overdrawing my account. I had to leave work to visit the branch on Friday because the guy on the phone said they couldn't get the money back to my account until Monday. They ended up giving me the cash which I then had to drive to my bank and deposit whole paying a $35 overdraft fee. Then 2 days later they withdrew the payment AGAIN overdrawing my account AGAIN. Awful. Now its Sunday and I can't do anything about it because they are closed. I also can't use my debit card because it's overdrawn. You guys are the worst. Ill see you tomorrow when I have to leave work AGAIN.

James Hinson Jr.: Every time I have entered a branch they are clean and tidy. Friendly appearing. However, they lack communication and the same level of "customer service" anywhere else. On the phone or online they are extremely rude and will most likely hang up on you or end chat sessions out of nowhere. Specifically, they never informed me that they were changing the entire online banking system and therefore I lost my username access. To make matters worse you cannot re-register without knowing your Account Numbers in their entirety. So, when I tried to call the Ann Arbor Branch - an hour prior to closing - I was hung up on multiple times. This occurred until after closing time. Therefore, I cannot call the branch, customer service, or access online banking until Monday. Unprofessional and very unwilling to help! Limited hours and locations. If you can take business elsewhere I would. Thought since this is affiliated with my Alma Mater it would be better managed.Update: 3/28/23 I actually really enjoy UMCU now that they have their app and other online features updated. I have had less reason to call the branches and deal with the issues aforementioned because of these updates. Therefore, I cannot attest to whether the customer service is better or if accessibility is the key. However, I am happier with UMCU now than I was before.

The design of their website is AWFUL and even the simplest tasks require you to call customer service. Every time I call customer service, it’s a 40+ minute wait. When I try the callback service it ALWAYS goes straight to voicemail. Just a HORRIBLE experience all around. It’s like they don’t want people to set up accounts with them. Especially if you own your own business. RUN as far as you can. Definitely moving to BOA or ANYWHERE else after the countless atrocious experiences at this bank.
Marieta Jimenez: My experience here today was awful. Never have I ever, in all my years coming here was I in a uncomfortable position. After a 20 minute wait to be assisted with, I was met with an assistant with little professionalism. She began to speak loudly and can be heard clearly throughout the building. In a topic of transaction and personal questions of financial statements, I expected a discreet conversation like how it's been done always. However, she pointed out loudly about documents we didn't have at the time and put us in a uncomfortable setting. I've noticed she didn't speak to her previous clients like this, she was more discreet unlike how she treated us. In ocerall, I would've liked someone who would treat us with more decency and professionalism than put us in the spotlight.
Jamie Lee: I truly enjoy my experience here. It feels like most negative reviews are regarding the drive-thru, and I feel like drive-thru banking is always going to be a challenge no matter where you go, some may be more than others. I've never had a bad experience and I've been coming here almost every week since it opened. There's a lot of turnover for the tellers, but it never interferes with the quality of service I receive. Can't say the same for some other branches.

The irony is they argue with me about wearing a mask and yet they don't wear it properly. I was being scolded for no mask while a teller was not practicing social distance with another co-worker while her nose was hanging out of her mask.If they have a mask and are standing behind a glass window then why are you complaining I am not wearing a mask? They will refuse business if you don't wear a mask!

Max Mendez: First the good: after having trouble getting ahold of someone at the 8200 number, I finally got on the line with someone. He was very helpful and understanding. It only took about 15 minutes for someone from the branch to call me back to get my lost debit replaced. The person who got me set up was nice and got it replaced on the spot! Thank goodness.The rest: I agree with the reviews about the long car lines. Granted, it's a Saturday and they are only open til 2pm. There was only one person taking people with appointments and one person at the drive thru. Having worked at a drive thru at McDonald's, it's stressful, especially seeing a line of cars. I empathize with the people having to work in a Saturday to get people what they need and people who have to wait a while to get their things taken care of with time constraints. It's definitely something that could be improved.

Christopher Grondin: I've had a fantastic experience with Lake Michigan Credit Union, largely secondary to the excellent staff at the Ann Arbor branch and especially the manager Dasha Themis. I use LMCU for all of my financial needs and they do not disappoint. Dasha consistently goes above and beyond to close loans and offer expedient service. Would strongly recommend.
Alex Gornitzky: Jason was fantastic to work. He was extremely knowledgeable on the entire mortgage process, and walked us through each step along the way. He presented all options in an unbiased fashoin, and was very transparent about the strengths and benefits of different products. He was always available to talk (day, night or weekend) and was very responsive and timely in his replies to our questions. We don’t plan to buy another house soon, but would highly recommend him to any prospective home buyers.
Kathleen Marinan: As a first-time homebuyer, I was coming into the mortgage process as a complete newbie. My realtor recommended Jason Robinson to me, and I'm so, so glad she did: he had an introductory call with me over the summer to answer any and all questions I had about pre-qualifying, down payment percentages, etc. It wasn't until a few months later that I was ready to submit offers, and Jason was incredible - responsive over email and text, providing letters customized to the address, always with a friendly and professional disposition (I know it's "the business" but having someone respond after 9pm on a Friday so we could get our offer in first impressed me greatly).I came into the office to open my account after getting mortgage approval, and everyone at the front desk was so helpful and friendly - really had a neighborly feel to it. Had a lovely conversation with Dasha as we went through the paperwork, and the efficient team had me out the door in less than twenty minutes. I didn't have an appointment, but Jason popped in to introduce himself in person -- when you're making one of your largest lifetime purchases, it's those extra details that go a long way in making you feel like a person and not just an account number. I have great appreciation for the staff at LMCU.Jason even came to the closing to share some additional information about how the escrow process worked and again made sure all of our questions were answered. Couldn't be happier with his service: we closed in less than 30 days and there was never a time when I felt out of the loop. Thanks so much, Jason and LMCU!

Keith C: I have had an excellent experience over the years, both at the Ann Arbor and Brighton branches of MECU. We continue to use Ann Arbor for routine transactions as it is closer to home and the tellers there (as at Brighton) are very good. However, when help and expertise is needed on a more complicated matter, we turn to Lindsey J., who was the assistant manager at Ann Arbor for several years, before being promoted to manager at Brighton. For example today, we had to make a beneficiary change on our accounts, but wanted to avoid having to take care of this in person since the closest branch (Ann Arbor) is 25 miles from our home. Lindsey first spent time answering all of my questions, and then sent me a DocuSign form that allowed my wife and I to complete the beneficiary change from home. From the time we opened our account, Lindsey has always been professional, generous with her time, and exceptionally helpful in resolving challenging banking matters that periodically arise. Also, Sharon Kelley, the assistant manager at Brighton has been helpful in answering banking questions over the years.

Houston Boone: This Credit Union is just your typical Bank. I have had issue upon issue with them. One of the biggest being there app that does not function properly even with the best smartphone or computer. I have called multiple numbers to try to get the issues fixed and have been unsuccessful. We all know how important internet banking is in this day and age. On top of that their loan officers will sell you a dream in order to turn a profit on your money. The tellers are all very nice and polite but make sure you keep multiple records of interest rates with them. They don't like telling you that information under any circumstances.

Ms. Fox: Pros: easy to locate. Great hours. Friendly tellers.Cons: Always a 5-10 minute wait. Shared parking lot is a little challenging.
Michael Brito: Was a victim of a fraudulent vendor, lost over $1000. Tried to reach out to UMCU's fraud protection department to file a "merchandise not received" report and the representative was short, rude, and entirely unhelpful to me. The experience was so upsetting that I'm closing my accounts after 4 years with them. I swapped to a credit union from a big bank to try to avoid this sort of treatment. Graduate students, if you're like me and you have to protect what little capital you have, avoid this credit union!
Kathy Hatfield: I was on the phone waiting for an hour in your queue. I was disconnected. My call is extremely important. I need to do a stop payment on a significant amount of money. This treatment is unbelievable!!!
Nice Price II: I like the staff here. Smaller branch. Open until 2pm on Saturday. longer than normal wait times during peak hours. Coin Machine, ATM outside, PC computer station, 4-5 small offices near keriug station. seating area in the back. usually 3 lanes open. Convenient location next to Dominos Pizza.
Jason Quick: If you are in a hurry because you have a emergency stay clear of this place. Needed a money order on short notice and this location is the closest on my way home and I had to argue with a employee about not having an appointment while they were empty. Its one thing to be swamped but if your empty you should probably help your customers who are there.
Dieon Roger: Just had a horrible experience with UMCU's customer service (thrice). Do not open an account with them if you are not a student. Worst banking support ever!!

Kresh Jan Anajao: I had an awesome saturday experience here in this Credit Union. I applied for an Auto Loan and got approved in minutes. Pam was phenomenal in helping me with my needs. Been a member since January and I had nothing but positive feedback. I'll probably make this my primary bank. I definitely recommend this establishment.
Ashley Burgess: Most of the staff is great. They helped deal with a credit card fraud without an issue and a banking issue too. One thing I was not pleased about was that even though I paid off my debt they still kept my card locked without informing me. Even though I paid it all off before 45 days. So I’m stuck waiting for a whole week unable to afford groceries and now depending on others to help me. To be honest, after this situation, I’m debating on switching to a different bank.
Douglas Zarnick: worst experience i have ever had . Spoke with a loan officer Krista on the phoneregarding a mutual client. Could not believe her actions or choice of words over the phone while the customer is sitting directly in front of her. i asked for her last name she refused and i also asked to speak to her supervisor again refused and hung up on me. For this reason alone i would never refer a client,family member or friend to this credit union . They should do a better job of training there employees. Too many choices on who you would do business with and no one should have to be treated like i was.

Akshay Verma: I really wanted to like UMCU because it is a credit union. I have had a personal account since 2009 and a business account since 2018. They are absolutely terrible for business owners. A large swath of their staff is not educated in tax wires or paycheck issues. The same swath never bend over backwards to help you or to ask a supervisor who could help them learn more. There are a few excellent representatives and managers, which is why I am giving them two stars. Chase, Flagstar, Chime, and Quickbooks all have better support for business and personal use (Chime being for personal and others for business).
K. Rutherford Thomas: Sadly, their customer service is on the decline. I’ve been with UMCU for 11 years and have had wonderful experiences from day one… until August of last year. That’s when things started slipping. Securing a car loan last fall was a nightmare (A+ cr). Now, we’ve been waiting for 3 months for a home equity loan to be processed and just received an email stating basically “sorry, we forgot about you”. What is going on at UMCU? I was trying to convince my partner to move her accounts to UMCU and now… looks like we may move mine to her bank. The burden of effort should never be on the customer (despite what Comcast believes). As we are unwilling to take another credit score hit, we are therefore paralyzed by UMCU’s inability to do their job.

Shadowfox248: First time leaving a review about this branch after being a customer since 2018. When I first signed up the woman who helped helped me was knowledgeable and polite. She made moving from a bank to a credit union about as painless as I could imagine. The wonderful thing about this credit union is that they also help finance motorcycles if you're interested in a recreational vehicle or a cheaper daily driver like me. Customer service has been hit or miss, however, depending on who I get on the line at this branch or if I have to call their main branches downtown. More respect and professionalism could be enforced in that regard as frequently I've had to deal with attitudes that don't seem to care that I'm choosing to bank and work with this credit union as a business and that kind of trust and respect needs to be earned to maintain customers.As for a PSA. At this branch since covid-19 they've stated they shut down their coin machine in the lobby so they will not accept any large deposits without them being in coin rolls. As an added note they no longer maintain coin rolls at this location and the teller suggested I'd have to go purchase some myself. Either bring your own rolls or, such as my case, go down the road to the Meijer and use the coin star. The rest of mine will end up in the gas fund.
Drew Richards: Slowest drive through of all time. Spent 40 minutes in the drive through on a weekday. Would have given it a worse rating, but the teller was nice.

John Langmore: It is frustrating to wait long periods of time to reach UMCU staff by phone during normal working hours. Wait times are very long, when you are 14th in line. There is no after-hours assistance to report credit card or account fraud. Last Friday I called to report major fraudulent activity on my checking account. My accounts were frozen as I requested, however I did not get a call Monday to follow up, as planned. Customer support is excellent, once are connected, but they seem to be dangerously understaffed.

Jessica Spencer: Just a terrible entity overall. It’s a little hard to help people with their credit if you won’t let the people that need help join. Just another big bank that only cares about $$$ and not the customer. After reading all the terrible reviews it sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Flip: Had a clearly fraudulent charge on my account from a place that I’ve 0 history of ordering from. Main branch was no help and corporate was no help. Everything is a very long incompetent process here. I thought credit unions were supposed to help but honestly this bank has done nothing to help us. We come to the branch weekly and now all of a sudden when we request payoffs and other personal information we are having to jump through many hoops. I do not recommend banking with dfcu try U M credit union or lake trust but they have lost my business.
Pete S (Elektroneo): Moved from Germany to Ann Arbor. Darlene was superfriendly and managed everything for my debit account. Questions via email are always answered quick and helpful. And I had a lot of questions since European and US Bank systems are slightly different. I really can recommend that branch.
Brynna Howlett: 1. Don't ever try to get a loan from them. They don't understand a simple pay stub to get you pre approved. It has taken over two weeks to get a pre approval for a home loan when other companies have done it in two days.2. They have hidden fees they don't tell you about.If you want to try to get a loan with these guys expect to have to spell out everything for them especially if your military. Even though it spells out the pay on the stub they just don't get it.
