HRG Capital: Horrible M&A team, dragged us along just to back out of a deal last minute with no legitimate reason. Avoid at all costs.

David Lazarus: Horrible service and dragged us along for months just to back out of a M&A deal 2 weeks before closing. Unprofessional and would suggest avoid them at all costs for business loans.

Saif Yousif: This is a bank that works in a bullet proof manner. I’ve checked around I know my funds are safe just because of the old proven characteristics they still carry today.

Brian Boesch: We enjoyed working with Kevin and his team to secure a home loan. Highly recommend using them if you are in the process of buying a home!

Michele Worden: This bank is a poor choice for small business owners. They are about a decade behind in capabilities and cash management services and they charge very high fees for routine business processes that are free at other banks

Cara Iafano: This bank is absolute trash and I've only been apart of it for 12+ hours. I have banked with 1st national for 10+ years and was unaware of the merger. Now it's merger weekend and I cant access my money and all branches and customer service phone #'s are closed. Real smart to plan a merger when no one can help. You can't cut people off to their money like this. Seems like this bank cared more about their new fancy signs than making a smooth transition for their customers. I will be changing banks immediately.

Erin Zindle: Bank of Ann Arbor does so much above and beyond what a bank is expected to do. Always friendly, patient with problems and questions, contacting me personally when an account is overdrawn, mercifully waiving fees. In every exchange I feel like I am dealing with a real human being; like a good neighbor, who seems genuinely happy to help.The branches are clean and attractively laid out, even down to the little touches like locally-sourced coffee, granny smith apples, and treats for my kid (always offering it to me first).Not to mention how much they support the arts in our local community which, as an artist, means the world to me. I love banking at a place that is so invested in the heart of Ann Arbor.

Nicholas Mango: I’m currently sitting in the branch, I’ve been here for 90 minutes, and I’ve been sitting in a chair waiting for an hour (every 30 minutes someone comes to tell me it’ll only be 5 more minutes. This has happened twice now.)edit: I see in your reply you have options for reduced wait time. That certainly would've been helpful to know before I was repeatedly given wildly inaccurate estimates of the wait time!Is there an option on your website that will allow you to offer me a debt consolidation loan for at least the balance of the credit cards you'd like me to close as a stipulation of the loan? You know, so it's possible for me to close the cards as you required? Or are you under the impression that I came to you for a loan that I already had the money for? Imagine my frustration waiting two hours in order for a bank to offer me something that basic arithmetic would tell you is impossible. $4000 will not close credit card accounts with a balance of $6000. The fact that I had to explain that to your employee (who still did not understand) speaks volumes.

Richard Welch: I did have an account here, until a "guardian" was appointed to me. She, the "guardian" removed all of "my" money from my account and because of that the account was closed.

Alexander Harmata: Easy to deal with and good for checking but they offer very low yielding savings accounts. Use online banks if you want a savings, CD, or money market account. Otherwise you might as well burn your money.

I worked with Brian Lucido; he was really friendly and helpful (which was especially useful since I'm young and I still have a lot to learn when it comes to finances). He even gave me great advice about college life and spending! I look forward to a great relationship with this credit union and I would definitely recommend their service to others!

Nicholaus Zinis: I initially wanted to give negative stars in my blind rage at a situation that happened to me at the credit union today. To say I was lividpissed would be an understatement. That being said the people I was dealing with in the branch absolutely went above and beyond my expectations in correcting the situation. And they did it with in hours of the mistake being made. To be clear a machine made the mistake. In retrospect I am very happy with this place and how they handled everything and would definitely recommend everyone too go to this branch of you are shoping for a financial institution.

Nice Price II: Awesome! Certainly offers more than third party lenders. Amazing people.. complementary keruig coffee and water. Seating available. Parking lot for customers. Can get busy during peak times. Coin machine. Knowledgeable. Offer free financial workshop. I am glad to be a member of UMCU.

Sonny's Mom: At one time this was a great credit union. Recent "improvements" make it worse and worse. The straw breaking the camel's back is there is no longer after-hours deposit capabilities. THE TOUCH SCREENS DO NOT WORK. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO GIVE UP AND DRIVE AWAY. I TRIED ONCE MORE TODAY AND IT COMPLAINED I WASNT RESPONDING AND KEPT MY CARD AND THE CHECK I WAS TRYING TO DEPOSIT, WITHOUT MAKING THE DEPOSIT BECAUSE APPARENTLY I WAS A SECURITY RISK BY NOT ENTERING REPLIES ON THE TOUCH SCREEN. WELL, IT IT WORKED I WOULD HAVE. The old system was better. If the ATM was not working it would display a sign. Now it appears to be functional but the touchscreens are useless. Another great innovation. Goodbye UMCU

Matt M: Not only do you have to wait on the phone for over a half hour every time you call, but the ATM at this location is often down with no sign or warning until you get through the entire process.UMCU used to be a great credit union. In the last several months it's gone down a steep cliff. I'd avoid this credit union and find a different one.

Gene A: Slowest Drive thru service I know. 2x had to wait over 20 min before 10 am. at the State Street Branch. 7-8 employee cars in rear, no customer cars out front. 1 person working 2 lanes. 1 lane closed, 6-7 cars backed up. Today I was the 3rd person to leave after 1 moved 1 spot in 25 min. 5 cars still waiting. Why they can't add 1 person and open up the third lane when they clearly have staff in the building to do so is beyond me. You think they'd get better at this.

Adam Burak: Avoid like the plague if you want to do something besides online banking or if you have other options. Scheduling an appointment several days in advance is required to visit a branch in person, and they may not have appointments at branches near you. The drive through typically takes over an hour and calling customer service takes 15-30 minutes to get in touch with someone. They do shared ATMs but no shared branching. The ATMs frequently refuse deposits in cash. I understand that the covid makes things difficult. However, one would think after a year things would improve, and if anything they've gotten worse. I have been a member of four CUs and two banks. UMCU is by far the worst, and that includes Zions bank who was sued for stealing from their members. At least there you could access your account, though it may be a little smaller than you anticipated.

Rebecca Brainard: I live out of state, so visiting in person is not an option for me. I have been trying to pay a bill for a week now. Calling 10 times a day (no one EVER answers, no voicemail, nothing), left emails, the online bill pay doesn't 'support' my loan. What a joke.

Amanda Bates, LLMSW: The bank started a new online system, which requires all members to enroll in. It requires an account number, but I do not know mine. I have tried calling multiple times today, and the line is either busy, or says “the line was not picked up”. This is ridiculous. There was not even an option to leave a voice message. So basically, I have zero access to my banking account right now. And going in person will take hours due to the slow pace of the employees.

Now the EMU branch is by appointment only (no drive through) and they still won’t let me just go through a drive through. Thanks for putting my family at risk by making us go into a public space rather than just making an exception.

Jonathan Frontier: Awful. I have an auto loan with this bank. They offered me the opportunity to skip a payment for a $30 fee. I payed the fee and they took the money out of my account anyway, overdrawing my account. I had to leave work to visit the branch on Friday because the guy on the phone said they couldn't get the money back to my account until Monday. They ended up giving me the cash which I then had to drive to my bank and deposit whole paying a $35 overdraft fee. Then 2 days later they withdrew the payment AGAIN overdrawing my account AGAIN. Awful. Now its Sunday and I can't do anything about it because they are closed. I also can't use my debit card because it's overdrawn. You guys are the worst. Ill see you tomorrow when I have to leave work AGAIN.

C C: I called to get my PMI taken off since I had enough equity in my home at that point. Ms. F. C. convinced me to apply for a home equity loan as a way of refinancing and getting a lower interest rate on my mortgage. It was an absolute waste of time given my limited employment (pandemic) and the denial letter made it seem like we were asking for another mortgage, not one to replace our current mortgage. Now I have a hit on my credit report and wasted tons of time. Just silly.

Over the years I have also taken advantage of the good pricing at University Insurance for medical, homeowners, and business insurance.

Flip: Had a clearly fraudulent charge on my account from a place that I’ve 0 history of ordering from. Main branch was no help and corporate was no help. Everything is a very long incompetent process here. I thought credit unions were supposed to help but honestly this bank has done nothing to help us. We come to the branch weekly and now all of a sudden when we request payoffs and other personal information we are having to jump through many hoops. I do not recommend banking with dfcu try U M credit union or lake trust but they have lost my business.

And I had a lot of questions since European and US Bank systems are slightly different. I really can recommend that branch.

Brynna Howlett: 1. Don't ever try to get a loan from them. They don't understand a simple pay stub to get you pre approved. It has taken over two weeks to get a pre approval for a home loan when other companies have done it in two days.2. They have hidden fees they don't tell you about.If you want to try to get a loan with these guys expect to have to spell out everything for them especially if your military. Even though it spells out the pay on the stub they just don't get it.

Natalia, the branch manager, is smart, thoughtful, and fiercely protective of her customers. Any request we take to her, she goes the extra mile to make sure it's done. Like another reviewer mentioned, she calls us to warn us of suspicious activities and patiently answers every question we have asked her (some of which were so basic that you'd think they would annoy most people). We are lucky that we started off banking with BoAA and we wouldn't dream of leaving.

kathy marx: I have the complete opposite view of Shane. I have been a customer of Bank of Ann Arbor for nearly 10 years and this is the branch that I primarily use. Both Mary and Natalia are excellent bank representatives; friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. I do all of my business and personal banking at BOAA and have been nothing but pleased. They even go above and beyond by calling me directly to alert me of any issues with my accounts. I've never had an issue. Ever. I would absolutely recommend them as my bank of choice. In fact I have.

Shane Johnson: DO NOT BANK HERE!!!! This bank is by far the most understaffed and unprofessional bank I've ever been to. On top of being understaffed, the 2 workers that were present upon my visit were completely rude and don't deserve jobs. Upon walking in the bank I waited to be spoken to. I stood in front of a woman named Mary and she didn't speak or even look my way. This is the only bank I've ever walked in, stood in front of someone, and no one spoke. Finally after about 2 minutes of awkward silence, a lady came from the office and asked if I needed help, her name was Natalia. I was inquiring about opening up an account and the terms of direct deposit and making wire transfers and it seemed to me that Natalia didn't have a clear answer for anything. She seemed like she had no knowledge of how thank bank would handle wire fees. Which I thought to be completely outrageous since she mentioned she was the branch manager. I tried to get clarification on the fees and she seemed to get frustrated more and more with each question I asked. She came off extremely rude as if she didn't want my business and like I had no business being there. This by far was THE ABSOLUTE WORSE experience I've ever had at a bank. I would have LOVED to be a secret shopper for Bank of Ann Arbor on this day. I will never be going back and I encourage ANYONE reading this review to not waste your time with bank of Ann Arbor, especially the location off of Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan with Mary and Natalia. I'm completely DISGUSTED in their services and employees.
