John Schutz: Hack of a helper who didn't know where anything was and had opions he couldn't help sharing while walking up and down the aisle and not helping find items.This place is overpriced and I try to avoid it whenever possible.

John Hockenberry: Absolutely fantastic. Very exotic mechanical problem with stripped thread bolts in Titanium tubing. Jeff took on the problem with unrelenting determination. More senior staffers helped us design a solution. In the end a spectacular outcome. Jeff was legendary. Gus was very entertaining. The first employee we found was a complete wizard. He got us started and Jeff got us to the finish line. More than an hour of nonstop effort that would have cost $125 bucks at a machine shop. We got out of there for $29.

And the staff is usually very kind and helpful, and always respectful.Edit Feb/5/2023: They changed everything, layout, location of stuff, very annoying!But the staff is still as willing to help as always, especially certain silver-haired ladies that work there. Actually, they get a 10/10, together with Larry, a young man who did his best to help me find some plumbing accessories.So, thanks to them, I'm upgrading their score from 4 to 5 stars.

Q Amos: Had a stripped/rusted screw on my license plates frame. I had no tools or any ideas how to remove it. Asked one of the employees for help and he came out to my vehicle and gave it look. Then went back in to grab a few tools. After a few HARD tries, he removed the rusted screw and put a couple new ones in that I purchased. Thank you Joel, for going above and beyond! I appreciate it!

Jerad Muller: I've lived pretty close to this little gem for years now and I had always assumed it was a plumbing parts store. I had some plumbing issues that I was dealing with so I stopped in to find they had anything and everything you could think of in there. The staff there is friendly knowledgeable and helpful. I had assumed that their prices were going to be higher since they were a locally owned store. However to my surprise they had very competitive pricing.This place opened up in the 1860s and it holds the title of being the oldest continuously operating hardware store in the city of Grand rapids. Great overall experience and I highly recommend checking them out.

Wandering Soul Collective: The staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful! I even made a comment to one of the workers that I felt so welcomed just to be walking around in there. I just had to drop off a package for UPS and was in and out in like 2 minutes top— they even printed me a receipt!

Gordon Baylis: When I walked in Ace, I was greeted by two employees. I asked them where I could fine an item and they walked to show me where it was Asked if I needed help to fine any other items, which I didn't. I was in and out in lead then 10 minutes.
Jacqueline Israels: Went in looking for assistance in plumbing for my tub drain lever, needing a replacement part. The staff was very upfront that I missed their specialist who runs that department. But confidently and positively said they would do all they could to help me solve my plumbing issue. Manager Leah was the lead in solving our puzzle and was a great teacher to a newer hire Carson. Showing him the ropes on customer service. The part was found and my problem was solved. They even ensured it was the right part by helping attach it to my existing pieces I brought in. Ace is once again the place I go back to because of their fun and helpful staff. Thankyou!!

Najmul Haque: Great hardware store with good variety of Products, staffs are also good. But not all items have good price. Some of them were found overpriced. Such as the 4pc plastic box are available at even 3$ in other supermarket whereas they have almost 6$ price. But overall good.
Kraig Nielsen: They have many items that you will need for a small project. The staff is helpful most of the time. They do not know everything, but they will act like they do. Take most of the advice with caution. I had an incident where their advice put me in the hospital.

Tommy Haury: Ace hardwares in general are great. Staff is usually quite knowledgeable. If they don’t know something the go with you to ask the old guy to find out. They must have tests to who knows where the most stuff is in the store. Most of the help can tell you by isle and shelf where the item you are looking for is located, and they’ll walk you over to it.

Jenna Prieto: We had an outstanding experience at this ace hardware. Our gallon of paint unfortunately spilled in the parking lot and not only did they take care of the mess, they replaced the paint free of charge. On top of that, the store lead took time with my toddler to ensure a toy we purchased for her at the store worked appropriately- he even double secured the toy with gorilla glue he had on hand. They were very helpful and knowledgeable regarding paint as well! We will definitely be back.

Jake: I’m a tradesman, and go to the hardware store 3-5 times a week. I am constantly disappointed by lowes, who doesn’t have what I need in stock 5/10 times I go, despite their massive size. Not to mention their lack of people around to help find things. it’s a little farther away but I’m going to this ace as my main hardware store exclusively from now on, as when I walked in it was clean, the staff was both present, actually helpful, and most importantly they had the items I need in stock. Plus it’s locally owned! So hey why not spend my money somewhere it’ll go back into my local community.

A woman decided she knew how to do it the “right” way and issued a credit and rang it up again. My husband told her that she was going to charge our account twice and she was adamant that it would not happen. He returned home and checked our account and we did get charged twice and it takes 2 to 3 days for the credit to come through! So until then we are without 250.00! 🤬🤬🤬

Daddybuggaorange: Nice store, unfortunately have had several experiences of poor customer service since July. There does not seem to be anyone available to help - even when staff are called over the radio by the cashier and the store is not busy they do not come to assist. Staff are not knowledgeable or overly helpful.Prices are very high, for example the same hose fittings that are $9.99 at Ace are $5.99 down the street.Even buying a few bolts is difficult, they require customers to write down what each item is on the bag in addition to quantity and price - have not had to do that at any other hardware store.It is easier, less expensive, and more efficient to to go a big box store or drive a bit further to Godwin in Ada.
Andrew Boekestein: Rental department needs help. Always a long hold when I call just to find out if something is available. On my 13th minute of being on hold right now. (Try an online booking system.). Seems to be short staffed. Witnessed the manager lose his cool on two different occasions when something went wrong with a customer. Always a stressful experience. The rest of the store is great as are the staff. Rental just needs an overhaul to accommodate the kind of volume they deal with.

Looked around in the outdoor equipment area for probably 10 minutes until I found a lady (Sue?) to ask for help. She told me she would find someone to help me who knew a little more about snowblowers. Waited around for another 20 min. until she came back and told me there was no one in who had the expertise necessary to help me and unapologetically told me I’d need to come back a different time. Was hoping to support a local business but ended up going down the street to the big box store. Waste of time.
Tom MaryJo: If I could, I would rate this a 0 star experience. Rented a hammer drill that was defective, brought it back to Bruce (manager) and he charged me for something that didn't work. He was really a jerk and not professional at any means. This is going to be my last visit to this Cascade Ace for a LONG time. Would NOT recommend to anyone that is looking for a good quality working machine to rent.

I pulled up into a close-by spot in the parking lot to unload my snowblower for repair. Before I could get all the bungee cords loose from the hatch on my SUV, an employee came out to ask if I needed help unloading the (heavy) snowblower from my vehicle. Now, THAT is what I call terrific service. I will continue to choose this neighborhood hardware store over the nearby big box stores because of this personalized service. Rock on, Alger Hardware! Joe Wojcik: Brought my push mower here earlier today to have it checked out as it was leaking oil. Seems like it was slightly over filled with oil as nothing needed repairs. Jason Bergeron: I recently just moved to Alger Heights. My fiance and I wanted to sand and stain our floors. Me, thinking i'm the handiest man in all of Grand Rapids, thought it would be an easy task. I watched a ton of youtube videos and every-time i watched a video of some "veteran" handyman i would think "they are over reacting." Then realizing i was being lazy the whole time. Well the "veteran" handyman and staff of AHHS have the same views. i would end up having to to redo my work with what the veterans of youtube and AHHS told me what to do the whole time. Their selection may not have what Home Depot or Lowe's have, but they have all the rentals/material to get the job done right the first time. Not to mention you will not have to risk getting rear ended on 28th st, lol.
