The Salvation Army Kent County: what do users think?
Danielle Smith: Food pantry was great. Getting help with housing is a nightmare. People are so rude and after being in hold for 53 minutes, hung up on me.
Gregory: Was very much happy with the support and care they showed
Kendall Garcia: I'm not entirely sure what's going on but I have been trying to get in contact with the housing department for weeks now! The amount of times I've called, waited fifteen minutes and pressed the call back, even following the prompt and low and behold not to get an answer is just horrible and frustrating. I moved here just a couple of weeks ago and I am not happy at all with this system. I have only talked to the intake specialist ONCE out of the MANY and I mean MANY times I have called and even emailed! This needs to get fixed or something needs to change!
bailey rowland: this Salvation Army stole all of the money off of my debit card after donating to them leaving my account negative do not give this place your money they are committing fraud and stealing from donators
Mac Takeit: Very nice staff
pauline Sandoval: Very welcoming; excellent programs.
Sarah Edgington-Vultaggio: The people here are caring and supportive.
Miriam Jackson: IT WAS VERY PLEASANT THE STAFF WAS VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH
Jen: We needed a little assistance with food and came here. We were treated like we were actually people and we were also able to get more information on assistance in the community that might be needed.
Just Me: I would give this place zero stars if I could. I was homeless in 2018 with my teenage daughter and in 2019 by myself and was repeatedly denied homeless assistance when I qualified for various programs through other non-profit organizations. The No Salvation Army failed to adhere to HUD's Criteria for Defining Homeless although I met the criteria for 3 out of 4 categories. I was told on one occasion that I would've had to been sleeping outside with my daughter in order to receive help. This is an outrage and no one wants to acknowledge the discrimination I have been subjected to. I wrote a grievance complaint against the Housing Assessment Program, however the supervisor at the time never cared enough to follow-up on my complaint.I have followed the chain-of-command from Grand Rapids to the office of Brian Peddle, international leader of the Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and these people simply don't care. The "officers" allegedly live in mansions while many homeless people are denied assistance. I speak from experience and research I have conducted. They profit of the hardships of the less fortunate.
Pat Hart: I use to work there it was a great experience.
Frances Foley: Very friendly staff for senior citizens with lunch, classes and excerises
Molly Johnson: Atlanta very helpful.
Glen Kaufman: Not a whole lot ta talk, needed help ,they kinda took a little bit of stress away been awake or had bring more paperwork, slow, but not gonna bite the hand that helps.....If n when I need help will go back......
Rusty Hobbs: Nice
Anthony Hamblin: Anthony a guy that works there stole some of my personal items
Mikel Brin: Very friendly ppl and clean enviroment
Michael Gonzalez: I had a great experience good staff n good ppl trying to get clean good environment
Marianne Paskiewicz: I took a friend to the Emergency Food Pantry. I also got food for myself while I was there. They give a variety of healthy food choices which makes living on low income easier. You can go 4 times PER YEAR.
D: They need to do more. The housing crisis is terrible.
Dorothea Lathrop: The programs offered assisted me in a time of crisis and I appreciate each intake specialist that helped guide me along the way! I am grateful for not only the Salvation Army, it's also the network of partner agencies that work alongside them to help families within our community. I will always be forever grateful. Thank you and God bless 🙏

Michael A. Spielmaker (SPIEL): No Christmas spirit for our veteran Hero's living here.😡 Oh unless you go to the new main office reception area away from where 98% of our veterans live and eat. So upset with my visit today to see if I could drop off presents 🎁 to these men and women that served our country. Used to be there was a nice Christmas tree 🎄 in the mail entrance where you would go to tree and pic off a vets wish gift he/she wants to get fir Christmas. Now the ugly Christmas tree is outside not even near where you walk into visit its way off to the side and no lights no ornaments no star just some dark ugly bows no gift request from vets for what they want just a paperstand next to tree that tells what you can bring on one side with very few options on the reverse side a full page of what you can't bring. Just disappointed in the tree they have I've seen caskets with more spirit and hope than that tree and the whole lack of the Christmas spirit 🙏☃️🎅🎄🎁 It's once again clear that this facility for our nation's Hero's which has a long history of not taking care of the men/women in which they are charged to by the Federal Government and State government. There mental well being is everything around the holidays which is lost here. GOD BLESS THEM🙏🇺🇲Update 16-Dec-21 Here us proof no Christmas anything inside or outside not one Christmas anything Christmas tree on the ground disgusting 😡🇺🇲 Yes I am a Veteran🇺🇲 U.S.Army 🇺🇲
jimmy de boer: A beautiful campus but not enough employees to maintain properly. I would have thought the Veterans could volunteer their free time to the causes and help maintain their campus.
Susan Bufe: Have a brother residing here great facility with great caring staff...so glad he's with people who care!
destiny Stedman: Ok
Shawn Wierenga: My in-laws we're residents for many years. We cannot express enough, how thankful we are that their last days we're so peaceful and caring. This was their home, they loved it. The staff is family, knowledgeable, immensely caring. Thank You for all you've done ❤️
Ted K: Really good!!!
Sandy Cobb: Wow the new facility is incredible!
Aaron Savage: This is an amazing new facility worthy of the amazing folks who have served our country.
Charlie: The new building is awesome and the staff is exceptional
Blurae Gray: Limited access still. Dropped off a delivery to security. Everyone was great!

Downtown Grand Rapids Inc.: what do users think?
Jon: Beautiful city with big city vibes but much nicer! Every the occasional begger seems nicer and more put together.
Kristi Bektas: I would like to give a huge shoutout to the Downtown Ambassadors with DGRI. About 11 years ago, I lived, worked, and went to school in downtown GR. I was brought back downtown in February 2022 when I began working with a local business, and WOW how the city has changed! Being down here on a regular basis, you truly get to see how hard our city works to beautify the downtown area. The "little" things (or what may go unnoticed by many) like new trash cans, consistently updated landscaping, and friendly Ambassadors who go above & beyond to assist those in need are the reason Grand Rapids is continuing to improve and flourish. I would like to thank one Downtown Ambassador in particular, Thibs, who only ever has a smile on his face! He frequently checks in with the business I work with, and it is obvious how much pride he takes in his role to improve our city. As an example, the other day he stopped by while on his route, and I had a question for him about our new trash cans along Monroe Center (were there now other designated areas to recycle cans). He was unsure of the answer, but he took the time to radio his team to find out. I also was asking him for advice on The Rapid bus system, because I would like to share with others how they can take advantage of alternative forms of transportation to make it downtown. He not only answered the questions I had, but he showed me a couple apps I could download to view the bus routes & offered his personal advice. Thank you Thibs, we appreciate you!
Celeste Mc: Quiet city during the day. I didn’t have the opportunity to go in the night but not many people around which is nice. The weather was excellent in May.
S S: Don't go for the ice sculptures. There r a few downtown, no singing tree, and the piano is broken. It was advertised but that was hype cuz it was a rip-off.
Mari Sundell: DGRI has done many amazing things for and to downtown Grand Rapids. One of the many great things they've done was bringing Block By Block Ambassadors to downtown. They offer hospitality services, and perform a wide variety of cleaning task. DGRI is also host to many great seasonal events, most of which are all family friendly. If you're thinking about starting a small business in downtown Grand Rapids, these are the people you want to reach out to. They will assist with getting your recognition for your opening, and will be sure to send downtown ambassadors your way to assist however they can.
Dawn Sneathen: Don’t go downtown at all. The parking is a horrible situation!
Laura Sheppard: A lot to see.
Alex Benda: This place is driving the growth in this city! A large part of what makes me happy to own a business in Grand Rapids!
Ernesto Fernandez: Great place to cruise and does have nice places to see
Barbara Miles: Most of the time it's ok but I live downtown and all the bars not so good on weekends the people get drunk and scream a lot
Alagar Gandhi: Great place to settle down. Breweries, Restaurants, Museums, Library, University and many.
Eddie Tadlock: Friendly staff and great location to meet.
Romy Karlen: Beautiful Place
M Ted Droski: They do great work!
Melvin Brantley: Made it to all the places we wanted to see, so much to see in Grand Rapids
Nancy Cuncannan: They do what ever they want without asking the parks department for permission, it's nuts!!!! They don't think, just spontaneously act...ugh!
K PAGE: Nice area!
The Notorious: They're tryin!
Coy Davis: Office for downtown businesses
