Jake the Pool Man: what do users think?
ann fisk: Great service
Chris Hager: Doesn't respond to inquiries
DrKasey Lynn: Jake was knowledgeable, professional, and extremely helpful. And to top it off, he was very kind! Thank you for a job excellently done Jake.
Dave Valko: Jake was recommended to me for the installation of a pool heater. Jake showed up, installed new piping to the heater (gas and water), removed and took the old heater away, even fixed a couple of problems in my existing pool water lines. I'd highly recommend him for pool needs. Great communication through the process.
Kalie Lyn: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueJake closed up our pool for the season, and was not only affordable but also communicative and did a good job. Can’t wait to call him back to open our pool - winter is too long, and summer is too short!
Blaine Marney: Very unprofessional and amateurly run company at all stages. I paid $300 for a pool closing that took all but 20 minutes. I was fine paying it at the time because I did not know how to close the pool myself and Jake seemed to do a good job. One week later some wind gusts rolled through the backyard and the pool cover got air under it, all the water flung off the cover, and the air pillow became displaced from center. I called the secretary to schedule Jake to come back out and secure the cover to last all winter. Two days later Jake called and left a message saying "my secretary said you had some questions". I did not have questions, just needed the cover secured. When I called back there was no answer so I called the secretary...no answer. Neither of them returned my messages. I called back the next day and the secretary blamed the unresponsiveness on "cell phone connectivity issues"...which is just about the poorest excuse that can be made in 2021. Jake came to my house that day unannounced while I was at a work meeting. My wife who was at home did not understand the situation and Jake spoke rudely to her about how it was a complete waste of his time since it's a two hour round trip to my house. I found this hilarious because an hour earlier Jake left me a voicemail saying "we're going to be out your way working today and can stop by". I wonder if he complained to every client in my area about the drive time that day. I'm not concerned with how far the round trip is, I just want my pool cover secured for the winter, and as I'm writing this message it's still not taken care of. The last I heard from Jake was regarding some clips that I need to buy and install myself because the equipment I have for my cover now is not sufficient. Oddly enough, there was no mention of that during our chat the first time he was at my house.
Shari Russell: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueLove everything about this company! Very professional
claire gilchrist: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueAMAZING! Jake was super professional, efficient and friendly! He solved all of our problems and answered all of our questions. His team has excellent customer service and he was the best service professional we have ever dealt with!
Ouise: Called him to empty and clean my pool, he quoted me $300. dropped a pump in the pool and left. Came back 2 hours later, rinsed off the sides (the pool was NOT dirty) spent about a half an hour and demanded his money. The pool cover was not cleaned and when questioned he said well sometimes I over quote and sometimes I under quote. It all balances out. I feel this is very unethical to expect me to supplement his mistakes by charging me $300. for less than an hour worth of work.
Jeremy Hoff: I called Jake the pool guy this spring after a pool store recommended him. He was nice on phone, told me he woul be glad to service and close my pool. I called him this fall and left a message to no reply, left 2nd voicemail and then a 3rd voicemail now its been 1 week and even texted, to my surprise no response. So I called the pool store who recommended him and shared experience and they said "yeah he does that often and closes without warning." EXTREMELY unprofessional and would think twice before you call him!!!
LuRae Shangraw: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI called Jake regarding a filter problem. He came the same day, assessed the problem, fixed it and now it's working great!
Steven Phillips: Positive:Professionalism,QualitySuper friendly, quick, and know his stuff!
miranda Alvarado: Jake does not call back right away, and doesn’t call when he says he is going to call. Felt like I was getting the run around for a minute. I’m a single mother and just bought my oldest an 18’ ft round 48” in deep pool for her birthday that I bought at Walmart for $400. I had no idea how to hook it up, and didn’t dare to attempt not knowing how difficult it may be. Jake quoted me $500! JUST to assemble it. After telling my family member this he said “NO WAY that’s a total rip off” He came the next day and assembled the pool for us in less than hour for free. Watch him assemble it, there is NO way that was $500 worth of labor. Fricken rediculous.
Patrick Karel: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueJake is extremely professional and does not cut corners. He does quality work at a fair and honest price. I highly recommend him!
Rachelle Denhof: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,Value
TheDavidShields: Jake quoted $350 to drain and acid wash my parents indoor therapy pool, in addition to cleaning the covers and filters. We then drained the pool intending to do the job ourselves. After draining the pool and starting initial cleaning we called Jake back and gave him the dimensions of the pool with the intention of hiring him. It’s an L shape pool, 45x7 at 4ft deep and then 15x15 At 2ft deep at the lower portion of the L shape. Jake changed his quote to $400 as he said therapy pools are 10x12. Jake showed up 20 minutes late without calling, was on the job less than 2 hours, didn’t clean the cover or filters and still received $400 despite not finishing the job. Jake also quoted $4,500 to paint the pool, which we believe to be exorbitant.
Laura Wilson: $250 to open my pool, which I thought was super reasonable. I told him noonish on Sunday, he called me about 1:15 to tell me he was running late. Didn't show up until about 3:30. He pumped the water off the cover and removed it. Broke my pump when he was trying to "fix" it. We had to go to the pool supply store, to get the new pump and supplies he suggested....new net, pole and vacuum head, plus some start-up chemicals. Which he paid for so I could get his "discount." (Total I paid him was $615) He hooked up the new pump, told me to pull out all the leaves and he would come back to teach me how to vacuum the pool. That was it. When I told him I wasn't expecting to have to clean the pool myself, he told me I couldn't afford him to stand there and pull leaves out of my pool. (I have an excellent job, so I don't even understand why he would say that). I didn't bother calling him back to "teach me" how to vacuum. You can YouTube it like I did. A complete waste of time and money.*edit: I pride myself on being honest every day of my life. You may have meant "you don't want to pay me to scoop leaves," But what you said was, "you can't afford me..." Wording is everything.
William Zourdos: I have tried several pool services over the years and Jake and crew are by far the company that LISTENS to the customer...i wanted things done a certain way and they delivered, saved me money on parts and were excellent on performing follow up....
Debbie Van Laan: Never returned my call
Jeff Smith: Jake helped me winterize my pool today and even walked me through the entire process so I could do it myself next year if I wanted to. Charged a very reasonable fee. I will definitely call Jake again if I need service for my pool. Thanks Jake!
Carol Mares: I think Jake should rename his business to Jake The Magician. Due to unfortunate circumstances, once our pool was opened this year it sat untouched and became the swamp pictured here. Until Jake the magician got involved. The first picture is how the pool looked Thursday morning and the second was taken Friday afternoon.Thank you so much Jake!

Polynesian Pool & Spa: what do users think?
Alyssa Peterson: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessPolynesian pool was great to work with! They got us on the list right away and had our pool done in 2 weeks and that was with a weather delay. James was very responsive and helpful. We look forward to enjoying our pool all summer long!!Service:Inground pool installation
Bailey Elliott: Service:Swimming pool resurfacingPositive:Quality,Value
Kristine Hardy: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueThis place is hands down the best pool and spa supply store in Grand Rapids! They had a hot tub cover in store when I needed it. Ed did everything he could to make my hot tub dreams come true!Service:Hot tub equipment maintenance
Scott Sowles: After calling numerous local spa dealers looking for a hot tub heater replacement I called Polynesian Pools. The fella that answered informed me the element was easily replaceable and about 1/3 the cost of a new heater. He offered some installation tips and tricks and had the part in stock! I was truly impressed. Excellent service and a very fair price.
Emily Holton: People are so nice! And the prices are great!
Daryle Boerma: Service was great, my heater went out, they sold me all the right stuff and gave me a through explanation on how to replace parts and how to make sure it worked correctly.Super impressed with you guys and will return.Services:Hot tub equipment repair,Hot tub equipment maintenance

Chris Hager: The Good:The pool is installed and everything works, and we're enjoying it tremendously (Photo evidence included). The Polynesian guys are responsive and their on-site guy will often show up to take care of something the day after you let them know about an issue or ask a question. The in-store or "corporate" folks bend over backwards for you if you're not happy. They helped us get our first closing (included in the price) set up, including the installation of our safety cover.Things they could do better:They are heavily sales and service focused and subcontract out all construction. All aspects of construction were done by other contractors and they were decent, but, in my opinion, pretty sloppy. They worked very fast, but without caution. Our yard was damaged in obviously avoidable ways. Pebbles (millions), sand, gouges and dead spots. Lots of concrete waste (man-made rocks, in other words) all over the place. By not being careful and taking some simple precautions, they created not hours but days of hard work for us, and we're just not into that at all. Photo attached of before and after we cleaned up the pebbles (there are still thousands) shows what used to be an area of our yard with the prettiest and most lush grass. They left a boulder in a random spot in our yard rather than asking where we wanted it. I had to move it myself. They left a huge pile of dirt blocking a walking path about 6 feet from the clearing I had asked them to put it in. I've moved about 12 barrows full of it and I'm only half way done. The concrete crew, a separate contractor from the pool installers, spattered concrete all over the place, including stuck to the liner above the waterline, and all over our white vinyl fence. I saw them start to clean both the fence and the liner, but they barely made a dent and left it for us.As for Polynesian themselves, on the sales side, they could be more communicative up front. This was our first pool and while we had a budget, we also had priorities and things we wanted that we didn't get or didn't know to ask for (or weren't asked about). In short, they could have easily gotten a few more grand out of me by letting me know that a single light at one end of a 43' long pool wouldn't light the whole pool and would, in fact, look a bit underwhelming at night (see security camera image). Ambience and great versatile color-changing lighting was important to us, which I was clear about from the start. We tend to leave the light set to plain white, because it's the brightest and does a passable job of lighting the shallow end at night. Safer to swim, but not what most would consider beautiful.Service:Inground pool installation
Azur Ramic: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality
thania crisostomo: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI highly recommend this company. They were super professional and helpful. Answered all my questions. Left my pool looking amazing. Grateful to them and all their hard work and dedication.Services:Remodeling,General repairs maintenance,Swimming pool resurfacing
George Lincoln: Very helpful and knowledgeable.
John Rodebush: 1st off I never do this but gotta say a great place . They definitely earned my business. My inground liner popped out and everyone said they couldn't help .Mike is the only guy that called me back . He explained it was too cold to put new liner in . But to help keep it from caving in he suggested a big tarp with water to get through the winter. Come spring he called and said when it warms up they would be out . Crew arrived at 8am today and pool was filling up by 2 .Very hard workers, so I tipped very good, another thing I never do .I highly recommend this place .They earned all my business, screw Leslie's ?Service:Inground pool installation
Norman Cole: Ed always has taken great care of us, and knows exactly what we need for the pool!
Geoffrey Lamberts: This place has been around since 1971. I think Ed definitely knows his stuff and they have incredible quality and great selections to choose from. If you're considering a hot tub or a spa, this is the place I would choose to get mine from
Greg cody: Little pricey. Friendly people.
Mark Radtke: Always helpful!!!! Great place with knowledgeable people. 5 stars posted late 2019Update November 2021 - lowered the ratingCalled to see if they had a replacement pump - I knew exactly what I needed, guy on phone said I would have to come in with the pump for them to see it. I brought pump in expecting to leave with a new one or be told they don't have it. Person who helped me said maintenance team not in so I would leave it and they would call back later and let me know if they had one.I called the next day and they hadn't had a chance to look at it and figure out if they had one. They called me with an estimate to fix a 300 pump for 450. Then wanted a bench fee of 35.00. I would not have left the pump had they told me about bench fee. I was told that wasn't his problem, there are signs up and "it has been this way for 11 years". When I asked to speak with a manager I was told just take it I don't have time for this. He was rude and unprofessional. I don't think I will be able to use them again. It is a shame, I thought really highly of them and have enjoyed past experiences, but their internal issues are not mine. I shouldn't have to deal with their rude team members.Service:General repairs maintenance
Joshua M.: Went in with little info about the filter I needed. I did take some pictures but they were able to find what I needed and got me all set up after asking just a few questions. They have a lot of supplies in stock so you don't get stuck out in the cold by keeping your spa up and running.

Cove Pools: what do users think?
Justin Krenselewski: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessGreat service and a great location with all the supplies you need. They have made big improvements and it shows. Adam helped me answer all my questions and addressed all my concerns.
Justin Rouse: Adam really helped solve my pool issues. Great service.
Daniel vanEnk: Critical:Professionalism,Punctuality,ResponsivenessIf you like your time wasted this is a good company for you
Aaron Muller: Multitude of issues, no resolve with Cove Pools yet. Cove Pools installed a pool this past summer, 2020, and have yet to repair the damage caused by bad installation.Services:General construction,Winterization
Nick Brown: This store is under new ownership and it shows. The store is clean, sharp and has alot of inventory. If they dont have it, they can order it. The new owner is super knowledgeable and very nice. The Cove pool store is my new store for pool supplies.
J F: Was given Cove pools as a reference last summer for some work (From John at Under The Sun Pools who runs a great business and is a outstanding person). we needed done to inground pool bc we had some cement cracked and chipping away in the skimmer box, the owner came out and told me It was a good thing I called bc we caught the problem early and it could be fixed. He sent 2 guys out to work on it and only a couple weeks after the “fixed” the problem and took our money the problem came right back and rust lines started showing right back where they worked.I have called several times and left voicemails with no responses. The one time I did speak to someone last year I was told I would get a call back which never happened. The work does not appear to have been done correcting or finished and it was a waste of money.I hate leaving bad reviews for local companies but we are very disappointed and I recommend finding someone else for your pool needs.
Mr. Mike: Bought our pool from Chuck 6 years ago; couldn't be happier. Excellent quality, the best price in the area, excellent installation by Pete and crew. Three days after breaking ground, the kids were in the water, enjoying a hot Michigan summer. Six years later, the pool still looks great and gets lots of use. Chuck and Cove Pools treated us like friends rather than customers. We highly recommend Cove. A++
