James Patterson: We started planning for the renovation of our 30 year old in-ground pool three years ago. Reached out to Acme on the recommendation of a friend. Their people worked with us to determine what was needed, how much it would cost and how long it would take. Events transpired that forced us to postpone for one year and then another. The Acme people were very flexible and patient. Then the pandemic hit and our scheduled repairs were postponed yet again. When they were allowed to go back to work our schedules conflicted and, once again, they were flexible. Once the repairs commenced I was impressed with the knowledge and expertise of the crew. They showed up on time, worked diligently and when unforeseen repairs cropped up they were ready with explanations and options. The most impressive part of the whole renovation was when the crew applied the new marcite lining on the concrete pool. Those guys were amazing artists! Never a wasted motion and it was better than when it was new when they finished. There was only one more step to complete when the rains came. August stretched into September and, working between rain storms, the crew finally completed the pool deck. Their instructions for caring for the new pool coating were clear and when I took water samples in, the counter staff was very knowledgeable and their recommendations were spot on. Chris Hager: The Good:The pool is installed and everything works, and we're enjoying it tremendously (Photo evidence included). The Polynesian guys are responsive and their on-site guy will often show up to take care of something the day after you let them know about an issue or ask a question. The in-store or "corporate" folks bend over backwards for you if you're not happy. They helped us get our first closing (included in the price) set up, including the installation of our safety cover.Things they could do better:They are heavily sales and service focused and subcontract out all construction. All aspects of construction were done by other contractors and they were decent, but, in my opinion, pretty sloppy. They worked very fast, but without caution. Our yard was damaged in obviously avoidable ways. Pebbles (millions), sand, gouges and dead spots. Lots of concrete waste (man-made rocks, in other words) all over the place. By not being careful and taking some simple precautions, they created not hours but days of hard work for us, and we're just not into that at all. Photo attached of before and after we cleaned up the pebbles (there are still thousands) shows what used to be an area of our yard with the prettiest and most lush grass. They left a boulder in a random spot in our yard rather than asking where we wanted it. I had to move it myself. They left a huge pile of dirt blocking a walking path about 6 feet from the clearing I had asked them to put it in. I've moved about 12 barrows full of it and I'm only half way done. The concrete crew, a separate contractor from the pool installers, spattered concrete all over the place, including stuck to the liner above the waterline, and all over our white vinyl fence. I saw them start to clean both the fence and the liner, but they barely made a dent and left it for us.As for Polynesian themselves, on the sales side, they could be more communicative up front. This was our first pool and while we had a budget, we also had priorities and things we wanted that we didn't get or didn't know to ask for (or weren't asked about). In short, they could have easily gotten a few more grand out of me by letting me know that a single light at one end of a 43' long pool wouldn't light the whole pool and would, in fact, look a bit underwhelming at night (see security camera image). Ambience and great versatile color-changing lighting was important to us, which I was clear about from the start. We tend to leave the light set to plain white, because it's the brightest and does a passable job of lighting the shallow end at night. Safer to swim, but not what most would consider beautiful.Service:Inground pool installation

I brought pump in expecting to leave with a new one or be told they don't have it. Person who helped me said maintenance team not in so I would leave it and they would call back later and let me know if they had one.I called the next day and they hadn't had a chance to look at it and figure out if they had one. They called me with an estimate to fix a 300 pump for 450. Then wanted a bench fee of 35.00. I would not have left the pump had they told me about bench fee. I was told that wasn't his problem, there are signs up and "it has been this way for 11 years". When I asked to speak with a manager I was told just take it I don't have time for this. He was rude and unprofessional. I don't think I will be able to use them again. It is a shame, I thought really highly of them and have enjoyed past experiences, but their internal issues are not mine. jmrewa: Had a pool installed by Fox, immediately upon installation we noticed the pump had a rattle noise to it and mentioned it to the installer and he just blew us off and said it had a three year warranty. Our neighbor has the exact same pump so we compared the noise and the difference was noticeable. After listening to my neighbors I called Fox to have them come check it out, the service guy found a rock in the turbine/fan but when he removed it the noise was still there. He said that we have a 3 year warranty since we bought all the equipment from Fox so if we felt the noise was still noticeable the following summer that we could have them replace the motor. Well the following summer (2022) the noise was still there so we asked for a service person to come and check it out and replace the motor. Their response was that only underground pool pumps were covered by the three year warranty and now want to charge us to have someone look at it and we would have to pay for a new pump! Bottom line is be prepared to be on your own after the thing is installed because they surely won’t stand behind their product. What is really aggravating is I brought it to their attention twice and they kept trying to drag it out until the motor was over a year old then switch what they claim is the warranty period. I will definitely be spreading the word in the Grand Rapids area on their shady practices.Service:Above ground pool installation

When the manager I would call him would come out usually nothing wrong. This year they sent kids out, and first thing they told my wife , was they didn't know how to hook up the solar panels which I have had ever since they put in my pool. They said they the manager will have to come out and hook them up. The electric was another issue. They said it didn't work. Well yes it did , you had to switch a button on, that was all. The electrician said they should have known that. . Unreal . now there have been other issues with them too but not going to get into it. Final straw was my wife called and wanted to reschedule the opening since there was no issue with the electric. They said since they can't meet our expectations , they will no longer service us. Blaine Marney: Very unprofessional and amateurly run company at all stages. I paid $300 for a pool closing that took all but 20 minutes. I was fine paying it at the time because I did not know how to close the pool myself and Jake seemed to do a good job. One week later some wind gusts rolled through the backyard and the pool cover got air under it, all the water flung off the cover, and the air pillow became displaced from center. I called the secretary to schedule Jake to come back out and secure the cover to last all winter. Two days later Jake called and left a message saying "my secretary said you had some questions". I did not have questions, just needed the cover secured. When I called back there was no answer so I called the secretary...no answer. Neither of them returned my messages. I called back the next day and the secretary blamed the unresponsiveness on "cell phone connectivity issues"...which is just about the poorest excuse that can be made in 2021. Jake came to my house that day unannounced while I was at a work meeting. My wife who was at home did not understand the situation and Jake spoke rudely to her about how it was a complete waste of his time since it's a two hour round trip to my house. I found this hilarious because an hour earlier Jake left me a voicemail saying "we're going to be out your way working today and can stop by". I wonder if he complained to every client in my area about the drive time that day. I'm not concerned with how far the round trip is, I just want my pool cover secured for the winter, and as I'm writing this message it's still not taken care of. The last I heard from Jake was regarding some clips that I need to buy and install myself because the equipment I have for my cover now is not sufficient. Oddly enough, there was no mention of that during our chat the first time he was at my house.

Ouise: Called him to empty and clean my pool, he quoted me $300. dropped a pump in the pool and left. Came back 2 hours later, rinsed off the sides (the pool was NOT dirty) spent about a half an hour and demanded his money. The pool cover was not cleaned and when questioned he said well sometimes I over quote and sometimes I under quote. It all balances out. I feel this is very unethical to expect me to supplement his mistakes by charging me $300. for less than an hour worth of work.

I called him this fall and left a message to no reply, left 2nd voicemail and then a 3rd voicemail now its been 1 week and even texted, to my surprise no response. So I called the pool store who recommended him and shared experience and they said "yeah he does that often and closes without warning." EXTREMELY unprofessional and would think twice before you call him!!!

miranda Alvarado: Jake does not call back right away, and doesn’t call when he says he is going to call. Felt like I was getting the run around for a minute. I’m a single mother and just bought my oldest an 18’ ft round 48” in deep pool for her birthday that I bought at Walmart for $400. I had no idea how to hook it up, and didn’t dare to attempt not knowing how difficult it may be. Jake quoted me $500! JUST to assemble it. After telling my family member this he said “NO WAY that’s a total rip off” He came the next day and assembled the pool for us in less than hour for free. Watch him assemble it, there is NO way that was $500 worth of labor. Fricken rediculous.

TheDavidShields: Jake quoted $350 to drain and acid wash my parents indoor therapy pool, in addition to cleaning the covers and filters. We then drained the pool intending to do the job ourselves. After draining the pool and starting initial cleaning we called Jake back and gave him the dimensions of the pool with the intention of hiring him. It’s an L shape pool, 45x7 at 4ft deep and then 15x15 At 2ft deep at the lower portion of the L shape. Jake changed his quote to $400 as he said therapy pools are 10x12. Jake showed up 20 minutes late without calling, was on the job less than 2 hours, didn’t clean the cover or filters and still received $400 despite not finishing the job. Jake also quoted $4,500 to paint the pool, which we believe to be exorbitant.

Laura Wilson: $250 to open my pool, which I thought was super reasonable. I told him noonish on Sunday, he called me about 1:15 to tell me he was running late. Didn't show up until about 3:30. He pumped the water off the cover and removed it. Broke my pump when he was trying to "fix" it. We had to go to the pool supply store, to get the new pump and supplies he suggested....new net, pole and vacuum head, plus some start-up chemicals. Which he paid for so I could get his "discount." (Total I paid him was $615) He hooked up the new pump, told me to pull out all the leaves and he would come back to teach me how to vacuum the pool. That was it. When I told him I wasn't expecting to have to clean the pool myself, he told me I couldn't afford him to stand there and pull leaves out of my pool. (I have an excellent job, so I don't even understand why he would say that). I didn't bother calling him back to "teach me" how to vacuum. You can YouTube it like I did. A complete waste of time and money.*edit: I pride myself on being honest every day of my life. You may have meant "you don't want to pay me to scoop leaves," But what you said was, "you can't afford me..." Wording is everything.

Taylor Ten Harmsel: Bought a house that had a fiberglass pooled installed by Quality, had a question on the salt cell due to it throwing an error on the system, they responded immediately with a troubleshoot and what part to replace if needed. Wasn't there for the pool install but from what I can tell they do 5 star work and their customer service impressed me.

Todd H: We were looking into doing an in ground pool in Fall of 2020. We had quotes from 3 different pool companies. What made us go with quality was their willingness to be flexible and they had done another pool in our neighborhood recently so we could see their work first hand. We changed our mind on pool layout and Chad was very accommodating. We then switched back to our original plan as we thought the layout suited our backyard better. I felt bad to keep asking for different options but Chad always was kind and provided us the info we needed.Ryan was also helpful. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything that you may not want to hear but he is honest. I’ll give him credit at setting the pool at the perfect elevation. We had a pool house pre built but it was only a guess on our part as to where to locate it. It turned out great. Perfect slope away from the pool and no steps!Their electrical and concrete contractors were amazing. Any issue we had was always addressed timely.Thanks guys for a job well done.

Looks like they didn't want my money. Service is poor and unprofessional. I would not recommend them.

Brad: We had the salesman from Quality Pool and Spa in Grand Rapids come to our house to provide us a quote on an in-ground pool. Ryan stopped out and was able to answer our questions and provide us with several options. We narrowed down our options to a pool from him and a pool from a competitor. After seeing both pools in person from both companies, we decided we were going to go with Quality Pool and Spa and the “Goliath” from Thursday pools as Ryan was also able to get his quote on the Goliath more in line with the quote from the competition for a similar model, in respect to size and shape. We let Ryan know this and set up an appointment in early July to sign the contract on 7/13. While home on vacation we had access to a pool at a family member’s apartment complex. After multiple trips to this pool we got a good feel for what we both really wanted, as far as features in a pool and came to the conclusion that we were settling on the “Goliath”.As a courtesy to Ryan we called him on July 10th to let him know that we were no longer planning to move forward with the “Goliath” as it lacked some features we were looking for and we did not want to settle when spending over 60K. We informed him the model we wanted was the “Wellspring” and understood this would equate to me needing to come up on what I was going to have to spend. We canceled our meeting for the 13th and he committed to getting me his “best and final” on the Wellspring model early that week. I politely requested the sooner the better as if we were not able to come to an agreement with Quality there were still some options with a competitor we had some interest in. I waited until Wednesday the 15th with no word from Ryan. I called him and he apologized for not getting back to me and requested I send him a text to remind him to call me the next morning. His words here... This would ensure he would do his homework on what we had talked about and get me the pricing. I had to laugh as I was having to remind a salesmen to call me to come after 60 something thousand dollars but whatever I just need the quote. I followed up with the requested text and waited for a call. It is now July 31st with multiple texts to Ryan, phone calls to Quality Pool and Spas main office, and an e-mail to the owner of the company. All simply looking for a call back. I fully understand how crazy the pool market is right now and how busy most companies are. This being said, if I can’t get a simple call back from my salesmen when I am looking to sign a contract for over 3 weeks with multiple follow-ups on my end….how will the actual install go? How will any warranty issues go with this company? When I called the main office I kept hearing how busy Ryan is as he wears multiple hats for the company. Again I go back to the questions above, if your company is spread this thin why should I trust you with 60+K of my money?A pool has always been a dream of ours, but this experience has truly killed the excitement of potentially installing a pool and left us leery of dealing with any company. On a side note, the competitor we have also been in talks with that has been incredible on the customer service side is now booked until 2022 so all this waiting has cost us a year on an install if we were to opt to go with them. Potential customers beware when deciding to trust this company with your pool dream and $$$.

Christina Setlock: My pool is heaven, for my family and my three young boys. My husband and I have very high standards in what we wanted for our backyard and what we envisioned for the layout. Quality made it happen. The final product is not just a place to swim but an outdoor living space. It is a long process but it has been worth the wait. I look forward to years of joy and quality out of the products and system that Quality put in. Chad is very knowledgeable at the shop and Ryan is a busy guy but I know I can call him anytime with questions or concerns. We have been in the pool daily since our install 2 months ago.

Tim Ofield: Was told I be helped by Quality Pool and Spa, a few days later they called and said they were unwilling to help me with a Hayward Warranty. I was really excited to have them start servicing my pool needs in the future, unfortunately they don't follow through on what they say they will do.

Jackie Shollack: No quality here! Just plain laziness and zero accountability. For the spring opening they pulled the cover off and let all the debris that accumulated over the winter fall into the pool, threw in some chemicals and left. I stopped into their location on Broadmoor and their receptionist guy told me the Gold Plan comes with a once over scrape but “they aren’t gonna sit there all day cleaning each pool”.??? ???? He then told me he could send someone out to clean out the leaves for a fee!!! See the pictures attached, they say it all. (We have been vacuuming for 3 days already)I agree that the pool has a lot of leaves but that is because your team dumped them into the pool from the cover. You also closed the pool during which I was present and there were no leaves in there at closing. And as far as your contract, it surely states pool cleaning is included as I’ve attached in photos. Your response supports your belligerence and lack of professionalism.

Melanie Fleischer: I originally went with Quality because they were the only company that responded to my information requests on fiberglass pools. I was lucky to work with a number of employees who made the process easy and enjoyable, including Ryan, Nick and Chad. My expectations were especially exceeded with Ryan C. Not only is he very knowledgeable, but he has also been readily available when I have/had questions or concerns. He was able to help me visualize and create a plan for my back yard and how it the pool would fit in. He has excellent customer service and a passion for his job that is contagious! I love my pool and I am very happy I went with Quality Pools & Spa.

Russ VandenToorn: Ashley was awesome and very responsive via e-mail and on the phone, we made an appointment on a very challenging issue with some Hayward components of which they are a dealer. The Service tech was not familiar with one of the pieces and after about 3 hours and on the phone to Hayward; they did not resolve the problem. I would have respected them a lot more, if they said, this is beyond us, we cannot help you but they made some changes to the equipment, unhooked other parts of it and told me once I have the two pieces of equipment on two separate breakers, which I knew would make no difference, it would work. Guess what? It did not work, actually it was worse and I am doing trial and error myself with the help of Hayward to getting it all synced. I am sure they are a great company in most areas, just wish they would have been more upfront instead of blaming the way it was installed and especially saying the two components were not designed to work with each other which is clearly not the case. I am revising the review. they at least gave me credit back for all there time and only billed for a service call which I think was very fair. I am raising this from a 1 star to a 4 star
