Fish Lads: what do users think?
Chloe: Best lobster rolls around
nannette lloyd: This place is crazy busy so figure out what you want before you get up to order. Beautiful fresh seafood and fish to take home to cook. They also have the best lobster roll I have ever eaten. It's a bit pricey for lunch but worth every penny. So... so very good. Check out their other order to go foods like their seafood salad, also outstanding.
Amber Pagan: The clam and the muscles were fantastic. One MINOR suggestion is to add a small baguette for the broth, and the dish will be perfect. They were slammed when we got there and the server was working her butt off by herself and did great managing all of it. We will be back. The next dish we are going to try is the fish and chips :-)
Jillian Rau: They always have the hard to find fish and seafood. Also, if you have a minute, stay and enjoy their delicious food!
Michael Belligan: I had really high hopes given the gorgeous fish & other items in their display but the fish tacos, at $18 for 3, really missed the mark. They had generous pieces of fish which is great but the dusted breading & light toppings left them flavorless and disappointing. I’d definitely buy other things from them but the fish tacos in particular weren’t for me. Hopefully my next experience is better!
Kevin Snyder: Good, can't wait to try again
Julie Versluis: Best fish and chips in Grand Rapids. Make sure to ask for Megan at the counter. She is amazing, very personable and incredibly knowledgeable. Thanks Megan…you’re the BEST!!
Paige Purcell: Fish lads has been on our bucket list of places to try for quite awhile. We always walk past and eyeball all their meats and fish which look fresh & great sitting there in that case of ice. Ive had friends talk about purchasing fish from there and have no complaints..Yesterday, we went to the market specifically to finally try Fish Lads for lunch. We placed an order for a turkey ruben & a BLT. The food was fast & hot. The service was bare minimum- the gentleman wasnt rude but wasnt friendly- definitely a part I am willing to give the benefit of doubt to until coming here and reading very similar reviews about the service. But unfortunately this isn’t a story even entirely about the service, its about how upon immediately opening the turkey ruben we observed a nice long black hair lingering on the edge of the bread within the thousand island sauce. I, myself, ate half way through my BLT before discovering a smaller almost beard-like hair. Honestly, I have no words for how appalling this experience was. I wasnt even sure how to go about it; so I came to Google to see if others may have had anything similar… at this point I dont see too many others with concerns of the cleanliness and the personal hygiene of the staff but we definitely will not be recommending or returning.* This is my personal experience from the time I went in to order lunch straight from the counter and have no further experience with their meats & fish to take home and cook on your own and the quality in that tegard.
Kelly D: Fish tacos were so bland and tasteless. Not worth the price tag at all.
Dave Claver: Only thing to complain about....Kinda pricey but, FRESH FISH!
Beverle Hines: We bought some fresh fish to make at home. Very good fish and helpful staff.
Ash Maul: This place is amazing.I used to come here for fried clams and the Blackened fish years ago and kind of forgot they existed. I walked into the Market to pick up my lunch takeout from a different restaraunt and saw Fish Lads. I ran over and impulse bought an entire second lunch and I have no regrets about it.I have a gluten intolerance and after mentioning this they breaded the fish with corn meal for my Fish and Chips and it's the first time I've had fish and chips in over a decade.Seriously. Best decision I have made today.
Edward Dixon: Very nice fish market. Clean and the staff was professional.
tim authier: The best fish market I've found in many years. Highly recommended.
g b: Great oysters
cosette wood: Edit: seeing other photos of fries from here I realized our fries were burnt... and that our rolls were probably not supposed to be cold. not worth 34 dollars and the woman working the counter was not friendly or open to any questions. Not sure we will come back for the rolls at this point.Never got to try lobster rolls before coming here. They were very good! Only thing my fiance and I wondered about was if the lobster meat was supposed to be cold? And the price being 34 for each was a bit ridiculous since the fries they come with left alot to be desired. But we were satisfied with the rolls and would come back here again to buy lobster tails once they have them in stock.
Sue Gordon: "The guy" is a revolving theme when talking about the service at Fish Lads. Let me describe him to you. He is shorter than the average man, does not greet you when you arrive, makes you feel uneasy because of his apparent dislike of his job and does not thank you after the transaction. If you ask a question he makes you feel like it's a dumb question. The overall interaction is so hugely negative that when you leave you feel an immense amount of anxiety at what just happened. This "guy" has been there for awhile. Last year, he kept my son on hold for 15 minutes for a phone in order. At pick up, he was in the back and made me wait and it was obvious that he knew he had a customer. My question for Fish Lads is, "Why do you employ a front line employee who represents your organization and who so obviously HATES the customers that he serves"? Customer service is more than half your business, isn't it? This guy needs to find employment elsewhere as he is turning off the customers at a rapid rate. After feeling so stressed by his demeanor last week I took my cash and went to Forest Hills Foods for my fresh seafood. They are friendly there. Frankly, I went back to Fish Lads for my Christmas dinner purchase (chose to not buy here this year because of all of this) thinking that surely "that guy" would have moved on. Nope. He's found his forever place apparently where management could care less how much of a turn off he is. Trust me, you're losing a lot of business because of this guy. The other staff were friendly by the way. Peace.
Tim Putt: The best and freshest seafood in the city . From tuna steaks to swordfish, fresh squid and octopus more . Get those hard to find ingredients for your exotic dish today at fish lads
Greg Skipper: Wonderful halibut and fries with clam chowder
Elaine Troehler: My friend and ate for the first time here enjoyed a wonderful lunch of fish and chips. And it was a pleasure having Liam serve and wait on us--very nice experience.
LaShone Nichols: Whole Foods was sold out of Branzino but I found it in stock at Fish Lads. I was waiting at the counter for few minutes before staff came from the back. The guy then went to talk to another member of staff while I’m still waiting. While he was walking back over, he saw another customer waiting and asked them if they needed help. I had to say, “Excuse me sir, I’ve been waiting here.” He immediately came to help then but had a cold/nonchalant presentation. You would think that for the price you pay per pound on seafood here that they would at least have courteous workers. The guy never even said have a good day. Bad business.

Sanitary Fish & Marketplace: what do users think?
Anderia Mathew: Great food wonderful people to have in the hands of my food
Jerry Greene: Great fish
Marc Frankland: Don’t let the appearance deceive you. I must have driven past this place hundreds of times without knowing it was there. Tried it today and I will be back. As an Englishman I’m always looking for good fish and chips. Whilst nothing will compare to home this is the closest to a chippy that I know. Great food and really nice people, give it a try!
Susan Danley: Good but too much grease
Jannice Jackson: Excellent. The cook was very friendly. The food was delicious, just like it was when they were on Wealthy.
jimmy de boer: Been going here since like forever. Another great fish meal to be had by me. The new Captain at the Helm did an outstanding job on my order.I urge any and all to support this business. It is well worth it.They are open Tuesday through Saturday.
Ben Williams: I've been getting my fish from here for years and the quality has always been great.
Kathy Harding: One of my favorite seafood takeout spots. Great Cod, Perch & Wing Ding Baskets. Plus a lot more.
Julie Snoeyink: Very friendly place, the food was very good...
Travis VantVoort: Excellent value for delicious fish. Each piece is always perfectly cooked, and the variety of seasonings gives you something new to try each visit!
Ron R: Always good service
scott benton: Great personalized service and great food! Family owned and happy to support them. I've been loving their fish for years!
Scott Lucky: Came in around 2pm on a Wednesday. Food was ready quickly. Fairly priced. $38 for 1lb of shrimp, 1/2lb of mushrooms, 1/2lb of mozzarella sticks, 1/2lb of jalapeño poppers. Food is a yummy. Easy in & out parking. Will come here again when on this side of town
chris zaiser: Fish was way overcooked and dry as a bone. Never again for almost $40.
Brady Schickinger: Undersized portions. I ordered a half pound of cod and was given 4.9 ounces of cod and that includes the weight of the cardboard container that held it. Decent quality food just not honest portions.
Randy Wiebenga: Always fresh fish over the years of going there.
rob swisher: This is a great place to go for take out cooked fish. They have many different kinds of fish along with all the sides
Tyler Robart: THE BEST place in Grand Rapids for bulk fish or a quick meal and much more, it’s absolutely fantastic quality and everytime i go there I’m amazed at the food and the workers are extremely friendly and want to talk, they recognize me every time i go back to get food and that type of customer service is REALLY rare to find these days. The food is always cooked fresh and there homemade breading on fried foods is to die for, plus they have bulk/uncooked fish if you plan to do a cookout or something with family! A
Terry Lieffers: Good service and friendly people. The food was average.
Lin H: This is one of the best places in Grand Rapids. Martha and John are the best!
Arbry Clifton: The food was excellent but portions were a little weak. Quality of taste was great. Be prepared to wait if you call ahead for take-out. Worth a trip there.

S M: I love the fried Salmon! My fav 😍
Faith B: The smelt and fries dinner option is awesome taste wise and fresh. They pull the seafood out of a case in the front of the shop, weigh it, and cook to your preference. Lots of Togo orders getting pickup so if your not eating outside the market than place your order on the phone or you’ll be waiting extra time. Prices are slightly high and if you pay via card there is no spot for a tip….. so make sure you bring cash for a tip.
Brittney Kennedy: I haven't been here in years, but I used to go all the time, when I would go to the school up the road 7 years ago! They don't disappoint on, their food! Recommend 120%!! 🤗🥂Kid-friendliness: They had everything to suit everyone.
Ashley Thompson: Whoever has been cooking in there these past two months needs to stop!I always order the same thing, same way, everytime for years. Last several times I received my order it was flavorless. Crack seasoning has been nonexistent...never uses the normal recipe and just puts garlic powder. Tenders are noticeably smaller cut pieces, and not cooked the same "crispy" I've always got in the past.
Joy Putnam: They were very busy, Saturday dinnertime, and only had 3 people working. When I got my catfish and fries home, both were undercooked. Good place to pick up fresh fish to cook yourself, but I wouldn't recommend grabbing a dinner to go.Food: 2/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 1/5 …More
Kelsea VanBuren: I got mash potatoes, Mac n cheese, and banana pudding. I also ordered chicken wing drumettes, but due to being out of stock (honestly I can see why!), they replaced it with a HEFTY portion of wingettes/wing tips. Seriously, SOOO good. The Mac n cheese was pretty good, as well. The mash potatoes were eh for me personally because of the gravy. Then for desert the banana pudding, absolutely fantastic!!Seriously though the chicken is fantastic, the seasoning used mixes well with their buffalo sauce!!
Bo C: Ordered smelt, lake perch, and bluegill fillets. All of it was over seasoned! To the point of gagging, and could even visually see, just a pile(s) of seasoning on the fillets! Like it was just poured out, but not evenly, not even shaken around to try and break up the piles of it. This was my third time here, an I believe will now be my last! Almost $40.00 worth of food. And not one of the three orders, were seasoned properly! An you didn't even bother to ask, if I'd want any tarter sauce!! I don't know if it was the cook, or counter person... But you shouldn't be seasoning anything, to the point you can no longer taste the fish, or anything else you have cooked!!!

Laura S: Made fresh to order so you will wait around 15-20 mins unless you call ahead. But IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!!
Huy Phan: They added extra seasoning which my kids didn't like, I only asked for pepper. Also they added 4% team gratuity without any notice. I only noticed it when I look at the receipt.Go to fat man's on division!

Dennis J Johnson: I hadn't been here in 40 years. It was good to find out not much had changed. Except for the unfortunate passing of the legend who referred to himself as fat man. Although he was an attraction, it was the food that was the star. And the star remains the same. My favorite has always been the lake perch. But there is nothing on the menu I have not enjoyed. The Saucy Crab: what do users think?
Lin Miller: Updated: permanently closed thank goodnessI've been dying to try this place since it opened. I love seafood. It's being a cajun place was just the icing on the cake. I miss the south and the french quarter and all the culture that goes into the lifestyle and food in the region.Tonight, we took the plunge and stopped in. The decor is beachy and bright and cheerful. I would imagine that would go better with a fish and chips place on the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach better than in Grand Rapids or a place portraying Cajun in Grand Rapids. I wasn't drawn into the Cajun/French Quarter jive that i expected. However, it was clean and tidy. That was the best and last good impression about The Saucy Crab.1. I've lived in Baton Rogue, LA and had awesome cajun food. The Saucy Crab is more like an upper crust Long John Silver's without the hushpuppies and paper hats on the cashiers. Every basket and dish is beer battered minus the 5 day old grease pit ooze. If you peeled off the dry battter, it almost passed for fish. You can get this same food in the freezer section at meijer in a box called "fish sticks". For the price, the corny paper lined plastic basket is cheap and tacky.2. This place is so culinarily ambiguous in that Cajun is spicy and sometimes lathered in ethnic and full bodied sauce. The Saucy Crab's dishes are dry and coated in deep-fried breading with no more taste than the bottom of a running shoe 3 years due to be tossed.3. Cajun implies french, southern, and lively with zest and gusto on the menu. The Saucy Crab is staffed by the farthest from Creoles than I can imagine. The service was piss-poor. We saw our server once and I couldn't understand a word he said. After paying the $60 bill for 2 breaded fish baskets and 2 shrimp/crab starters, we werushered out in total silence. The host at the front door gave us the cold shoulder without as much as a "thanks for coming" or "have a good night".I was disappointed to say the least.
Michael Miller: Food: 1/5|Service: 2/5|Atmosphere: 1/5More
Chris Kozak: Love the boil bags.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
J C: “Ooo pig sooiee” Spicy sauce was yummy & our server Crystal was so good at taking care of our table for us! She was the best! We really appreciate her good service🤗👍🏼We might go “insanely spicy” level next time since “spicy” wasn’t too spicy for us😁
Hannah Nguyen: This place has a Gnat and Fruit Fly problem. There is even a UV light plugged in right by the bar. I would assume paying well over $100 for a meal, there would be at least a few traps put out by the other tables. Our food was swarming with flies, and we even had to move tables. It was unpleasant and dirty all over the walls as well.Too bad… the food tasted decent but I would not go back.
Carey Holzman: This place has been here for years, yet I never see it have any customers. Reminds me of a chain called Angry Crab in Phoenix. When you walk in the door here, the smell of fryers in the kitchen is overwhelming. There must be really poor ventilation for a place this big to reek so heavily from the hidden kitchen in the back. The smell was soaked into my clothes and I had to walk around smelling like I just came off shift working the fryers. The staff was attentive and friendly. Prices are okay. Food arrived quickly. My fries were way over-cooked and appeared as translucent-brown, grease-soaked former-potatoes. The fried shrimp impressed me, as it was not greasy at all and the breading was well seasoned and, unlike the fries, was not over-cooked at all. There is a lack of proper crab tools. Apart from a cracker, there is no other poker, nor are the crab legs pre-cut. So you end up with a crab leg that just bends when you try to crack it and no poker to pull the meat out. I asked for scissors and they brought me some office scissors. I hope they were sterile. Either way, I used them and it helped to get the meat out from the crab legs that would not crack with the cracker (most of them.)The flavor was excellent but the lack of appropriate utensils combined with the cost and the fryer smell meant we didn't stick around. Once we had enough, we paid our bill and left and then my clothes had to go into the washing machine when we got home. The lack of staff/management not applying some extremely minor effort to ventilate the place and provide adequate utensils for the type of food they serve, combined with a little more pride in not letting over-cooked food get served to the customer suggests a "good enough' attitude is embraced. So close... so easily fixable.I'm from out of town, but visit the area annually and have no desire to return here to dine unless I hear from other reviewers these issues have been resolved.
Maralina DG: Service was wonderful although short staffed. Restaurant is a little out of date and there is a strong scent of the fryer. Seafood was good, messy and a little challenging trying to crack open some of the shells. The flavor and seasoning was well done.
Milkshaketurtle79: I don't get all of the hate in the other reviews. I got the Cajun crawfish to go and it was awesome. Tons of flavor, but not overwhelming. I don't know how the rest of the food tastes, but I know the crawfish was amazing, and the portions are great. You can get a lot for your money if you're ordering for multiple people.
JC Olson: My go to for seafood in GR. Food is always good, lots of choices for seafood and prices are good for what you order and amount.
Courtney: The food lacked any flavor, the restaurant was empty and half of it had the lights off. Our server seems unsure how to serve. The whole experience was poor to say the least. They need to do some work in all areas.
Kenneth Cyr: Just a great place to eat
Nicole Blackshire: You don't get anything for your money. You leave still hungry😪😠
Rachel Potter: Hubby and I split the Monday-Thursday Special with and add on of 1/2lb snow crab, one corn, and one potato. We got the Woo Pig Sooiee spice, medium level. I have to believe the people complaining of bland food got theirs with no spice. It was full of flavor and so delicious! We will definitely be back, but next time we won't add the crab as we ended up with more food than we could eat. Would definitely recommend if you are in the mood for a seafood boil.
Ben Vairet: Food was ok. The cleanliness of the bathroom is not. This bathroom has not been cleaned in several weeks or more. The security lights are falling apart.
kyle rottman: Delicious seafood experience
Barb Madura: The king crab will not disappoint
Irma Mrozovich: Awesome customer service, our server was on point! But it was over priced and literally I'm sure we were not served 1/2 of anything.
Lou Ann Rider: Loved it! Totally different dining experience! Your food comes out steamed in the bag so it's piping hot! You get to pick your sauce and seafoods! Lobster bibs for everyone. We'll definitely go again! Staff was excellent and definitely willing to help you with the menu
Derrick Riches: $39 for a meal, didnt get full. Friday night, only 1 other table...bathrooms are DISGUSTING! Food decent, expensive. You get a bib (nice), but a shell cracker and a plastic fork. How do you eat crab with a plastic fork? Not recommended.
Ryan Qiu: Amazing food!
Victoria Kerns: The guys were really hot, 10/10 would recommend.
