Lisa Jones: After being a patient for almost 20 years, I almost left America's Best because of the bad customer service at THIS location. I switched locations and found out my prescription was too strong for my eyes and the customer service was outstanding. Love the company, but this location in Sterling Heights has gone downhill over the years.

Honestly just don’t go here.The receptionist was rude and wouldn’t make eye contact when speaking to my family.The doctor was not friendly to my kids. Told me my 3 year old had to sit. She simply took 2 steps away from me.
Kennedy Ellison: Very Poor Customer Service and I had a racist experience at this location, will never return. I had to switch eye care providers completely because once I called corporate nothing was done and no one called to follow up or apologize for my experience. My insurance card was waved in my face and contacts thrown across the table at me, I reported the staff member to corporate and no one from this location ever followed up with me. The rude customer care provider also used my insurance on an eye exam when I asked her not to and now I have to wait a whole year for another eye exam at my new eye care provider because they don’t sell the same brand of contacts. I have never had a worst experience like this ever in my life and I hope no one else does either, avoid this location at all costs.
Gloria Mueller: If I could give zero starts I would. The staff is SOOOOO rude!!! First thing was, I was told to sit at the glasses pick up. No one came to help, staff was sitting there doing nothing, on thier phones. She didnt tell me I was after someone or anything. So I eventually asked if I was in line. She was like "oh, I thought someone was coming to help you." Im like... well, you didnt say anything to anyone for that to happen, then you started texting on your phone... so not sure how that was supposed to happen. Then, when you get your glasses, they usually make sure they fit, they use that machine to make sure your eyes are in the correct spot, they ask you to wiggle your head to make sure they are not falling off.... not this place. The lady they had helping, first off, did NOT seem like she was interesting in helping me and then two, I dont think she knew or maybe wanted to see if my glasses fit. I ended up asking her if I was bothering her, because I was in disbelief. I was actually looking for somewhere else, but I have gone to America's Best before so I was like eh, sure. Nope.... never again.O, I also got contacts there and forgot my original glasses there. I called the next day to get them back... supposedly they arent there. I dont think they even cared to look.I will say, 2 people that helped me after were super nice and friendly. All the rest were rude.

Alicia was great, especially considering my fear of eye exams, Nicki & Randy went ABOVE & BEYOND helping me get the frames I really desired from another location! This location is a little difficult to see off Schoenherr but the service impeccable. I am recommending this store/organization to everyone!

This place is super unethical and they should be ashamed of themselves. The staff was extremely rude when I pressed them about their policies regarding insurance and didnt want to give me my prescriptions. I suggest finding a place that permits you to use your full VSP or other insurance benefits.

Dan C.: They offer "Two pairs of glasses for $79.95". ( single lens) including free exam. If you need progressive lenses be prepared to pay at least '3 times' that amount for ONE PAIR, depending on the grade of progression you want (6 different grades). NO free exam either. I ended up paying $330.00 for ONE pair of glasses. Had to return them after 2 adjustments AND a call to corporate because their first prescription was wrong and everything was blurred. I did get a new exam and Rx (no extra cost) after 3 additional weeks. Be very careful with this place. I'll never go back to America's WORST.NOTE: After posting this review America's Best contacted me requesting my information regarding this issue so they could help me. I sent a copy of my purchase receipt as well as a copy of the chat session with their customer support . To date, I have heard NOTHING from them. I suggest when you need glasses DO NOT GO TO America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses!!!!!BTW, the Sterling Heights store I went to is no longer in business. ?????

I called to make an appointment after getting their appointment reminder and called during the posted pandemic hours and the phone just rang and rang...no voicemail no pickup nothing. A week or so later I’m in the area so I decide to just walk in and just book the appointment in person. The two ladies seemed confused so I said it again slowly I would like to make an appointment. One started to make her way to her computer then decided to just give me a business card and to use the number to make the appointment because they are about to close. I told them I tried that route but no one picks up over here. At that point I decided to just walk away only to be given a snarky “have a nice day’. Will never use that place again, I have an appointment somewhere else thank god.

Jonathan Shamoun: Came to west Bloomfield location and dealt with Lindsay the manager. I have never been more disrespected by her and kept repeating that I am asking to commit insurance fraud. She was nasty to deal with from the moment I walked in there. I didn’t end up getting any of my benefits used and got nothing accomplished expect for them taking my money for the eye exam and being RACIALLY PROFILED! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. NASTY ATTITUDE AND NO HELP. Lindsay did not bother to look at my insurance plan and was basically useless. EVERYONE STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!

The employees were a little weird and unprofessional and the doctor told me it was okay to drive home on a sunny day after she had just dilated my eyes... but It wasn’t a big deal. The problem came when I refused to purchase over priced contact lenses from the Normandy location in Sterling Heights. The tech quoted me over 1,000 for a year supply of contacts in which I responded with no thank you, and asked for the prescription to be printed out.. He was hesitant, but gave it to me.. I went to purchase contacts online and when the online contact company called the Normandy location in Sterling Heights, a few days after my eye doctor appointment, someone there told them I was not a client and did not receive my eye Prescription from them and they could not verify my prescription. The online company, had to cancel my purchase, until I can verify my prescription.. as of right now I am out of contacts and will never go back to the Normandy optical Sterling Heights location.

I had never tried contacts before and found out on this day that I probably never will get them, as I get very squimish touching my own eyeball. It took forever to get one contact in my eye. They also don’t know how to use the machine that measures the distance on the actual glasses. They’re lazy and gossipy and do everything except their jobs. I wouldn’t suggest them to an enemy. And Grace pleads with patients not to complain because of the way it’d make her look. They talk about the Black girl Renae behind her back.
Meng Yang: Pros: Dr. R. Karmali is excellent doctor. She listen and cover all the bases of your rountine eye examination. I feel confident in the care I received her service and everyone in the office is great.Cons: Sometimes you will have to wait. Because the doctor really care about their patients, sometimes they can get backed up making sure that they give each patient their attention.
Farzana Aki: Renee, the lady working at the counter was very rude. She was belittling my dad. She seemed annoyed the whole time and did not help us in a timely manner. She behaved in a manner as if she didn’t care about her job and was never trained in customer service. I would not recommend this vision center.

Alt Her Ego: Not thorough. I think they give you the run around to avoid verifying things. I ended up doing the verification myself, relayed the information and followed up. Even my insurance said no one called for the verification 😐. I kept saying I didn’t need an appointment, I already had a RX. I just needed to order the contacts and glasses. That was 8/9... and well...You see the date of the post. Prices are great. Service meh. Pick your battle.

Ruth Rosario: Have been a customer for over two years. My experiences have been consistently positive from my first phone call to schedule an eye exam to the day I picked up my new glasses. The customer service was excellent, and the Doctor & staff were professional, friendly, and took care of all of the details of the medical insurance, helped me pick out frames, and even taught me how to use my new contacts. The prices were affordable & the follow up visits were just as smooth.

Marion Emmens: Didn't get my eyes checked here, just filled my prescription. Everyone was really polite and helpful. They even pulled some frames that they thought fit my face. I bought two pair that day and the next day one pair was ready. They called me right away. Got a call in the evening that my other pair were ready for pickup. Having glasses ready in one and two days isn't bad at all. I'm just gladI didn't have to wait a week like I have at other places. They also have a donation bin for your old glasses.

Charmaine Clay: !!!!Do Not Go to Walmart Vision on Van Dyke and 14 mile!!!, I called this location for two days to find out the cost of getting an eye exam and if I was covered by my insurance. The day of my appointment, they told me I did not have insurance so I called my insurance company and they told me I was covered and had a $5 copay. I called Walmart back gave them the insurance information. After my exam they told me I had a $56 co-pay. At this time, I told her when I called I was told I had a $5 copay and that is what I planned on spending, when I asked about the exam they said it was a little over $100 if I paid in cash, they never said a sitting fee for contacts would cost extra, I told them the eye exam was for contacts. So I don't know why they would mention any extra fees.. WALMART TOLD ME TO TAKE THE TRIAL CONTACTS OUT OF MY EYEBALLS IF I DID NOT PAY THE $56.. never in life I heard of this. So I took the trial contacts out of my eyes, paid the $5 dollar copay and I will not go back. I will take my prescription someone else. If I could rate a zero I would!!
GO ZA: I fell I did not get a good eye exam at Walmart Vision and Glasses center. The doctor was very ignorant and arrogant when I asked to re do the exam. I asked because this doctor referred my son to a glaucoma center. We went the next day, and the readings were vastly different from by a whole number. When I called back to the Walmart Vision center, they said come on in, like it was no problem. I scheduled a day when no one was there, so she had time. However, when she came out, she preferred to use it to drilled me, as my son watched. She made me feel like I was not worth a cheap eye exam. Stating that she only check the refractor to see if it was off by -2 number. Her lecture to me was longer than her exam, she rushed my son back in 5 minutes. Telling me her first reading is good. I though Walmart had a satisfaction guarantee. So, called the 1800 and told them when I wanted a refund because I got vastly different readings and her personal feelings could interference with the results. Someone said he was going to check into it. A few days later, he stated, that she rented the Vision Center from Walmart, and Walmart could not enforced a refund. Then he asked if wanted to order my glasses from Walmart Vision store. Definitely not, why would I do that when I don't feel like I got a proper exam. Furthermore, I find this doctor very impolite to me as a monitory Women. After she chewed me out, she turned and walked off in tight leggings and long doctors overcoat. She look so ghetto. I insist that doctors should have some standards, when they start acting like thugs, don't expect my patriotism. Furthermore, I cannot stand a doctor, who let there personal feelings get in the way of their work. I ordered my son glasses from another company. Walmart Vision center was informed and changed the prescription to include the AX and CYL value. That didn't help because someone, at the Walmart Vision Center forgot to include the PD. When the glasses arrived they fitted too small. THIS slight oversight made the whole glasses defective. So, this doctors hovering over the prescription and forgot the PD was to no avail. Flaws like this should not happen. I could see if this was everyday person however, they go to school to be precise and learn a skill, but when it is time to apply it, the doctor and I combined made as many mistakes and I would alone. Victoria Hibbert: The doctor is wonderful, but as the person below said, the people who work in the actual vision center are awful. They are all on personal phone calls instead of helping the customer. When I walked in for my appointment, one was on the land line with friend - (no one talks to a customer like that, I hope) and the other was blantantly on her cell phone. Neither even looked up when I came in. When I picked up my glasses a few days later, same issue. I had my contacts in, so I couldn't open my eyes to look at my glasses, so she did a few adjustments to the ear piece which was hurting me and sent me on my way. When I got home, I took out my contacts and put the glasses on and the were completely crooked! So obviously so that my husband noticed immediately - so why did this lady not say anything at the store and fix it?! Now, I have to go back again...

Trevie Boo: It’s been a month and a half since I got examined and ordered contacts. I’ve been told they’re in but I can’t get them until the “trial” pair shows up. My prescription hasn’t changed nor has the brand of contacts. I’ve also been told multiple times that they’ll call me back & still have heard nothing. I’d just like the contacts I ordered now and I’ll take the trial pair whenever they arrive. This is an obscene amount of time to wait for anything. Phone lines are always busy & the automated system says my name doesn’t exist so getting on here is my final resort before awakening my inner karren and demanding a refund.

Receptionist that set up appointment did not specify they had a strict time policy to give a heads up that if not exactly on time you would not be seen! This is your policy, but how does the customer know? They wanted to just see three of us absolutely not! Apparently you can't be one minute late! Next time, learn to make the customer aware of your time restricted policy!

Second, when verifying my insurance w/ the office earlier in the day (which took 25 min because of incompetence) the girl from the facility never mentioned if you are late you must reschedule. EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I wish I had read the other reviews before scheduling an appt here.Do yourself a favor and find a legitimate and accredited eye doctor. VisionWorks is a joke.

William Ashley: I ordered 2 pairs of glasses on May 20, 2016. Store manager Yvonne Anderson told me the glasses would be ready in two weeks. The sunglasses finally arrived on July 5, 2016. I had to wait more than 6 weeks for the sunglasses to arrive. I was given 3 different excuses why the sunglasses were late. Turns out, only one of the excuses was true. Store manager Anderson refused to take ownership of the problem. Her consistent attitude was - ..."my job is to order the glasses. The lab is located in New Jersey - nothing I can do about it". This store needs a new manager who understands the meaning of customer service. Stay away from JC Penney Optical at Lakeside Mall or any other U S Vision owned retail optical store. I will take my future optical business elsewhere.
Melissa Suchyta: After waiting 4 weeks for the first 2 pair, I had to wait another 5 for the remakes (per my request as I could not adapt to progressive), I called to cancel and was told that because they were custom made (Um hello, aren't all prescription glasses custom made?????) I NEEDED to take possession of them!!!!! Not only am I breaking ties with JCP Optical but after a long standing (22 year) relationship, I will no longer be a JCP card carrier or customer. Not good customer service JCP Optical District Manager.
Rich: I've been going there for years and they have always had consistently good service, and Dr. Hammond is the best ! She diagnosed a condition in my eye that left my ophthalmologist wondering how she (an optometrist) could have detected it. Their office has always been polite to me, but then I've never gone in there with a high-brow attitude, so you know - "treat people as you'd like to be treated". Highly recommended !
Kristin O'Neill: I used to go to JC Penney Optical in Lakeside Mall growing up in Sterling Heights because it was one of the only places that was covered on my mom's insurance. It was always an absolutely horrendous experience.I had moved to Ann Arbor to attend school and went to a different eye doctor there and then moved to Chicago where I have a wonderful new optometrist.This past weekend, I came home for my brother's wedding and had forgotten my contacts! The rehearsal dinner was on Thursday and I really didn't want to wear my glasses for that or to stand up in the wedding the next day. I called JC Penney Optical since they were the only eye doctor that I had history with in the area. I explained to them my situation and told them they were the only place I knew to turn to having not been there in years. They were incredibly rude on the phone and told me they "see that I have a dilemma but were absolutely swamped and could not help me right then". They said they would call me back and hung up.I had to go to the mall either way to get the bride a gift for her big day and decided to pop in there since nobody had called me back (1.5 hours later). Right away the woman sitting at the desk (seemingly doing absolutely nothing) rudely burst out that they haven't had time to look into it yet. We stared at each other awkwardly as she continues to sit there, and I said I would wait and took a seat in one of the chairs.I sit there being ignored for 10 minutes. Another woman decides to acknowledge my presence and ask who I am waiting for. I tell her I'm not sure and that I'm hoping to get some samples to last me a weekend... The other woman quickly interrupts me and tells her "SHE'S THE ONE FROM CHICAGO". I then say, "I'm here for my brother's wedding..." (trying to get my story in) and the second woman interrupts me, "YEAH. She told me ALLLLL about your story. But we are busy". By this time I'm starting to get upset and sitting in disbelief at how rude they are to potential customers.More time goes by and the first woman finally asks me my last name. (This is promising even though I had told her this over the phone)! She pulls up my history and gets up and walks over to the second woman loudly saying, "She hasn't been here since 2005". The second woman screams, "YOU haven't been here since 2005???? We cannot help you." And I said that I had told both of them that I had moved away many years ago and that my eye doctor in Chicago would happily send over my prescription but I was interrupted again, "NO! We cannot help you. Leave."Luckily, Lenscrafters was close by in the mall! My Chicago eye doctor had faxed my prescription to them and told me Chris would be waiting for me to help me. He was, I got my contacts from them and the wedding was beautiful! $160.00 loss to JC Penney optical. I will never ever be back.

Good frame selection and I received my glasses within a week. Never again will I go back to the chain stores that offer deals on your health (glasses).
Suzanne Johnson: Couple of weeks ago I fell on concrete and got my glasses bent way out of shape. The next morning I went to Miller Optical and asked if I could pay them to make my glasses so I can wear them again. They refused to be paid but they did fix my glasses for which I'm extremely grateful. Actually this happened a couple years ago also. Same situation. Friendly helpful staff
