Nicholas Skora: Sensei Larry is a fantastic teacher! When I came into my first class I felt welcomed and ready to learn. Sensei Larry also offers great curriculum in a very comfortable & safe atmosphere. I highly recommended Detroit Aikido to those who want to learn traditional Japanese martial arts.

Bushidokan Martial Arts: what do users think?
James Huntley: If you're looking for a place to train Brazilian jiu-jitsu in a welcoming, supportive environment, look no further than Bushidokan. I've been training here for the past four months and it's been a totally positive experience.I wanted to pursue a martial art for the first time in my 30’s to stay fit, improve my mental health and learn to defend myself. I didn’t want a competitive, tournament driven environment - but something more practical and functional, and thats what Bushidokan teaches through its Moreira lineage.Sensei Alex and the other instructors here are knowledgeable, patient, and always willing to help you improve. Whether you're just starting or you’re an experienced practitioner, they'll take the time to work with you one-on-one to make sure you're getting the most out of each training.I can say without a doubt that my fitness and self-defense skills have already improved dramatically since I started training here. If you share those goals, and want to be part of a supportive community, this is the place to be.
Don Sacra: Sensei Alex and all of the students welcomed me right from the start. From the highest ranked student to your own rank or below, everyone helps each other to have better, stronger techniques. That said, Sensei Alex has some special skills assessing the whole student and encouraging them to grow from the inside and allow Aikido to be the vessel of self growth if you will.I know that sounds strange, but I am more impressed with Sensei’s insight to his students the more I train Aikido at his dojo.
Olivia Walsh: I’ve been going to this class since I was 7 and now I’m 13, it has taught me so much about self defense and I’ve become more confident in myself.
Jocelynne Samu: I’ve been attending the adult jiu jitsu classes since August of 2022. Everyone who trains here is kind, patient, and respectful. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to train their body and mind in a safe space.
Jamie Ditrapani: My girls have been taking classes here for about 6 months now and they LOVE it. I have noticed a significant change in behavior at home as well as watching them grow at the gym. Sensi Alex is like no one I have ever met before. He cares so much about the students, but he is also teaching the kids to show respect for not only him but themselves and the other students. He truly cares and that is what caught my attention when we started our trial run there. I also must call out SenPi Russell. I feel blessed that he is not only a teacher at my kids school but also an instructor here. He also cares so much about the students and giving them confidence to be the best they can be. He takes time to talk to the students when they’re having a difficult moment and I appreciate everything he has done for my kids as well! We love this gym!!
Monjaras Isaac: Sensai Alex knows what he’s talking about in bjj and in other mmas also is a great instructor. Very friendly environment and a great place to learn bjj.
John Cummings: Our children have been training at Bushidokan Martial Arts for 3 months and love it. The program that Sensei Alex has put together has provided a place for our children to learn Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and grow as people. The children's classes are well structured with a good balance of instruction, practice, and fun.
Russell Kelley: Bushidokan Is a great place to train. Sensei Alex is very helpful and will make sure you understand the technique as instructed. The atmosphere of the dojo is very friendly and calm. In my few months training here I have lost over 20lbs and feel great! Edit: I have been training for 3 years and have lost 42lbs total.
Heather Faraj: My son has been a student at Bushidokan for almost a year and he loves the classes. We have definitely noticed improvements in his behavior at home, which I believe has a lot to do with the character development stripes that can be earned (or taken away) by parents. The physical component to the class is great since we have a very active boy but the main reason we signed up is the mental/mindfulness advantage it can give your kids - staying calm and collected in stressful situations is an art and we’re very pleased that Sensei Alex incorporates mindfulness. If your family is new to martial arts like we were, I highly suggest coming in - your kids will love it!
Stacey Peterson: This place is amazing, I let them know what I wanted out of the program for my son and they are in line with that. Sensei Alex is GREAT! The students are great also, so willing to help my son even on his first class, I'm very impressed and happy my son looks forward to going each week. I would highly recommend!!
Jordan Rodriguez: I've been training here since February and it's been amazing. It's challenging but very supportive. If you want to grow and challenge yourself it's a great place to do it.
Steven Perkins: Good training and good people, Sensei is a great teacher and is very knowledgeable.
William Boeve: Been attending Aikido classes since March, 2022. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable and fellow classmates are friendly as well.
eric debus: I cannot overstate the immensely positive impact Sensei Alex and his team have had on helping to build up my child’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Even after just a handful of sessions, the difference in his confidence level is night and day. The Kids Jiu Jitsu classes are so engaging, welcoming, fun, and packed full of great training, that Tuesdays and Thursdays are now his favorite days of the week!
Mike Sieloff: What a great gym to start training at! The staff and main instructor Sensei Alex really make you feel welcome. I signed my 8 year old son up for the kids program last year and after watching a few of his classes I decided sign up for the adult class. They have programs for all levels of BJJ so as you progress you can move into the more advanced classes.
Ilona S: My son loves it! Sensei teaches kids life lessons, discipline, integrity, respect and provides parents with resources to help children grow. Highly recommend!
Ryan Fitzpatrick: As a BJJ student from another school in Texas, I was looking for a place to learn technique, train hard, and have fun with others. After trying a few other schools here in Michigan and sustaining a few injuries that kept taking me off the mat, I stumbled across this school.I loved the you break it you buy it policy. Don't hurt others, or else you pay for their school costs. This sets the stage that we are here to train, we are here to learn, and most importantly, doing so in a safe environment.Well, as safe an environment as martial arts can be. I have loved coming here to train and hope to see new faces, be prepared to sweat and have your personal space invaded!
Kyle Jeffery: I have been training BJJ here for several months now, and i must say the experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Sensei Alex is patient and more than willing to explain techniques if a student is having trouble understanding a movement or concept. the other people that train here have been incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home.
Thomas J: I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here for 6 months now. You will find it to be a very clean, positive, and welcoming atmosphere for students of all levels. Sensei does an excellent job of identifying student's strengths and areas for improvement in order to deliver effective coaching. If you are looking to try something new to develop both physically and mentally, I recommend trying a class.
Robert Andrew: I came to this gym for BJJ for several months in 2019. Sensei Alex is professional and will accurately gauge your knowledge of the subject and adjust his instructions appropriately. If you’re a beginner Sensei Alex and your fellow students will make you feel at ease. I got a promotion through work and had to move away otherwise I would’ve stayed here. I would highly recommend.
Bryant Wischmeyer: I have been training here for about 6 months now. Sensei Alex, as well as everyone else who trains here is super welcoming. You can expect consistent growth with an atmosphere that makes training exciting. I would definitely recommend Bushidokan Martial Arts, ecspecially if you are new to BJJ.

True Balance Martial Arts: what do users think?
vi p: seen positive changes in my son mentally and physically
Shrey Bhatt: This is truly a great place for all ages! I am a third degree black belt at this dojang(school) and I have been doing Taekwondo here since I was in first grade, and I definitely recommend it for anyone. It is a great mixture of exercise, stretching, and a awesome martial arts school. Master Sweet is a fabulous teacher and teaches excellently. Along with Taekwondo, we also have many different styles of martial arts such as: Aikido, Tai Chi, Iaido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and much more! Everyone is very kind and caring and always available to help. Overall, I believe everyone should try at least one of these martial arts and Master Sweet has taught me so much and I could have never asked for a better instructor.
Vijay Baskaran: A true martial arts dojang (school)! Our family of 5 practicing here for a several years. Master Sweet is a sage and a saint and true to his name. This dojang may not display a fancy martial arts tools and gizmos, but it has the fundamentals (master and mindset) to turn a good student into a life long practitioner of martial arts. This dojang instills discipline, respect and confidence as a life long pursuit. Come visit us! You will fall in love with martial arts!
Abi Abi: This is THE BEST Martial Arts 🥋🥋 place you can ever find in Michigan my boys go here for years Master Sweet is very patient and professional same goes for Master Kayser this place is always clean and well kept there’s always water and coffee available there is also a small play place with toys for little kids
maria john paul Dominic: Good and relatively professional... Little expensive...
Paul AbouSouan: This place is fantastic. Master sweet is great at what he does. He has great passion for the art. He takes this very serious, yet at the same time he still keeps it fun. He has a lot of patience for the beginners and is tentative to making sure they don’t feel out of place. He also makes sure that the beginner is learning the proper form. This is more than just learning how to kick and punch. This also teaches discipline, gives confidence, respect, do good in school, and how to behave outside. I strongly recommend. This is great for all ages.
Retro Christmas Chic: Definitely the best martial arts school I've ever trained at. Instructors are extremely educated, professional, helpful, and kind. The building is clean and well-kept. The environment is positive and encouraging. By far, the best.

Martial Science Center: what do users think?
John Newman: They teach authentic Japanese martial arts and Chinese TaiChi. Very practical teaching!
Tiffaney Stoehr: Amazing place to train! always welcoming and friendly.
Doug marques: I've been training at the Martial Science Center in all 3 disciplines (Japanese Jujutsu, Aikido and Iaido) for some time now. I've also trained for a number of years in other disciplines before joining the Martial Science Center and there is no comparison; I was hooked after my 1st class! The instructors have a vast array of knowledge, have been classically trained, tested and have instructor licenses in their respected disciplines. They are able to explain in detail not only the how's and why's but the connections and background of what you're doing. Plus, they are extremely friendly, no ego instructors who are willing to go the extra mile. Lastly, the dojo has plenty of room, well kept and extremely clean. If you are thinking of getting involved in martial training, you should definitely check out the Martial Science Center.
halotrixzdj: Been here a ton, love the instructors, the instruction, the connection to Japanese martial history, and even Sensei Patterson who explains the language! They explain things in great, concise detail, and can expound upon it after class for half an hour.
Scott Aguirre: Middle-aged dude here with zero martial arts experience, so take it for what it's worth, but I've been getting training here for the last month and I really love this place. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and understanding that I have no idea what the heck I am doing. I'm focusing on jujutsu (not BJJ) right now, but I can also take classes in aikido and iaido.

College of Martial Arts: what do users think?
Keith West: The College of Martial Arts is an exceptional dojo with a great staff and students. I joined the adult class six months ago and have loved learning the art of karate and self defense. Sensei, Senpai and all the instructors are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated to their craft. Since I started my training here, I’ve noticed a great improvement in my self confidence and physical fitness, and I plan to enroll my children when they are old enough so they can benefit from the same things. I highly recommend this dojo!
Dana Lindstrom: College of Martial Arts is not just a place for people to learn self defense, they treat everyone like family. My child has been on her way to black belt excellence for two and a half years now, inspired since day one. Sensei, Senpai, and all of their black belt instructors are the greatest role models a kid could have. The structure of their classes and curriculum are on point! At only 8 years old in her first ever competition, she won a 1st place trophy because of all that she learned here. They built her up with confidence and integrity and I am proud of how hard she works on everything. This is what she looks forward to most in life and she wants to teach karate in the future too. My 10 year old is more mature then most 20 year olds and it doesn't matter the age, they work very well with everyone! The dojo is very clean, when I have a question they're easy to get ahold of, and they have special events too.If you want your kid to grow up to be a great person, don't hesitate! This was the best decision we've ever made.
Seth Bliss: Highly recommended! Extremely friendly staff, knowledgeable instructors, encouraging students, well balanced and clean. My family has a great place to grow and build important life skills here. I will continue to support this business and participate as a parent, to watch my family grow confidence, balance and make friends in a healthy environment.
Naida Causevic: I started this school right before going to a new Highschool. I always struggled with self confidence and was bullied throughout elementary and middle school. Starting my martial arts journey in 2017 was the best decision that I made. I can't even express how amazing Sensei and senpai are. They helped me grow in more ways than they can imagine. I could talk about karate for hours and my friends can never hear the end of my karate stories. At the college of martial I discovered who I was and I am becoming the best version of myself. I continuously learn more about myself and develop my character everyday. They aren't just my Sensei and senpai, they are like family. I love all the students and families that make this facility come together! 3 here are a few pictures (of many) that I cherish.
OG Beards: College of Martial Arts is a great school. My wife, two boys, and I all train together. Sensei Burtney is a great teacher with amazing skill and many years of experience. He and the staff are all very friendly, helpful, and encouraging. They encourage growth both in Karate and life as well. We look forward to every class. The classes are filled with friendly students who encourage and help each other improve. If you're looking for a school to learn Karate, get fit, and improve your overall health, College of Martial Arts is where you want to be. Sign up for an intro class today.
Serafina Ventimiglia: This dojo deserves 10 stars! We absolutely love it here. We have watched our daughter blossom and grow so much here. She now has more confidence, strength, determination, awareness, and spirit! The teachers and staff are all very skilled, knowledgeable, and always very welcoming. I would also recommend this dojo to anyone of any age. It’s never too late!
Civan Miya: Good and friendly teacher
melissa leggett: Karate started as something for my 5-year-old son to do and remain active. My dad was walking by the Dojo and asked if he could sign my son up. I told him OK, thinking it would be a couple month thing and no big deal. Fast forward to 7 years later and I can honestly say that saying yes to signing him up was the best decision I have ever made as a mother.Karate has taught my son about Confidence, Respect, Discipline, Leadership and Relationships:Confidence:Sensei and Senpai have become role models and family to my son. He is always wanting to make them proud and would be devastated if he ever disappointed them. They have made him confident and comfortable talking to adults and having conversations that most 12-year-old boys would find difficult to have. The relationships that my son has built throughout his karate journey has been wonderful to watch. When he first began, he was just a shy little boy that would not talk to anyone, then he began friendships with a few of the other boys in the class, when he became a brown belt he developed friendships where he began talking to other people outside of the Dojo. When my son became a Junior Black Belt is when I noticed the most change. The friendships became like a family relationship. He would talk to multiple classmates outside of the Dojo, they would laugh and talk in a group chat amongst 4 or 5 of them. He also developed relationships with the black belts that are older than him who have watched him grow because when he first started, they were where he is now. The staff that Sensei and Senpai have around them is just as incredible as they are. My son has multiple friends from karate that he talks to outside of the Dojo and they range in age from 11-23. I love that he has such a variety of friends as each one has something to teach him as well. You never want anything bad to happen, but I can honestly say that I know if anything were to ever happen, he would have an amazing support system from his COMA family behind him to help him through anything that life throws at him.His love for Karate is greatly in part because of Sensei and Senpai. I encourage any parent to enroll their child in The College of Martial Arts, because I know it was the best choice I ever made, and I would make the same choice one thousand times over again. There are not enough words to express my gratitude to Sensei, Senpai and the College of Martial Arts family for everything that they have given/done for my son. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and I am grateful that the College of Martial Arts is part of my village.
Mike D: Highly Recommended College of Martial Arts.Sensei, Sempai and ALL staff are a joy to be around. As soon as you walk in to the dojo you are greeted with smiles and a positive atmosphere that puts a smile on your face. You have that feeling of wanting to be there and part of this organization.
Charise: I highly recommend the College of Martial Arts to kids and adults! My son attended this Dojo for 5+ years, and I absolutely love our experience there. The staff is fantastic and cares about the kids perfecting their craft! They have taught my son confidence, discipline, and self-defense. I hate that we had to end our training here, but we had to relocate!
Max Garbarino: Excellent school
James Sites: Great staff and great experiences for my kids
Brian Cobb: Outstanding place
PG: Our 6yo has been attending class here for approximately 3 months and we couldn't be happier. To say Sensei, Senpai and the teachers are great with the kids would be the understatement of the year. And that doesn't mean they are easy on them. They don't let them goof off (too much, lol) and they take it serious. They really do want them to Learn. But they make it fun for them too! Highly recommend COMA to anyone
PnA S: Only took 2 classes with our 5 yo to convince us THIS is THE place she belongs. Sensei and Senpai along with the rest of the staff are fantastic with the kids. They make the class fun for them while teaching the fundamentals . The best part for us is that it is not only a foundation for Karate, but also self discipline, respect, and manners. We are new here, but are very excited to see the progress our daughter is guaranteed to make.
Rick Pickard: Great family run dojo with impeccable instructors. Highly recommended.
Don Robertson: Super shady sales tactics, wouldnt give me any price info until they tried forcing me to sign a contract which they barely even let me read. I didn't appreciate the sign now or it will cost you 400 more dollars tomorrow. Disappointed!
Mark Sapian: Very clean and professional! No wonder everyone else gave this a 5 Star review.
Brenda Meller / Meller Marketing: Our son has been going to College of Martial Arts for several years. This is an excellent karate school. The instructors are awesome teachers. Not only are they teaching the art of karate, but they also instill in the kids teachings about respect, relationships, appreciating others, and how to interact with other kids and adults. In addition, the COMA is a community. We have gotten to know other families throughout the years. Five stars. If there were ten I'd give them 10 stars!
Emilia Szerenos: One of the best Dojo’s I have seen in a long time! There is a feeling of cleanliness when you walk in, showing that the owners really care about hygiene (I think that’s a quality some studios lack). The instructors are kind and friendly, and really aim to make the children’s time at the Dojo fun and enjoyable. They place a GREAT focus on character growth, such as respect, gratitude and discipline, in addition to the self defense training. The College of Martial Arts is like a second school.
Lori Stirling: No better place to train and grow both in martial arts and in life. The staff is amazing with my children and the courtesy and respect they have learned has helped them in every aspect of their lives!
