Capoeira Mandinga Detroit: what do users think?
Gio Mansilla: and one day after mentioning it my wife found the school on google and she said "you should try it." Being a bigger/out-of-shape man at the time, it certainly seemed pretty far fetched. That was 6 months ago- I started training with Sabia and what is now my capoeira family twice a week in Ferndale (super convenient location right downtown
Phil Nicholas: This is the best kind of community that one could hope for when joining a martial arts school!Good instruction, and supportive people. I highly recommend this Capoeira group :D
Queen Ad: I've been going for years and the teachers and students are very friendly - like a family.I also like it's convenient location - right off I-75 and I-696.

Fresh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: what do users think?
Max Stuhldreer: Dropped in while travelling and had a great experience! A very welcoming environment w/ great instructors.
Paul Reese: Thank you to Fresh BJJ for allowing us to train with you while we were on vacation this week! This is a first class gym and a group of fantastic people! We look forward to seeing you next time we are in town!
William Sabbagh: This where I get my humble pie, my balance I leave all the days mess on the mat, great people awesome coach's, one of the best Martial art schools I have trained in.
Alex Jahn: I joined about two years ago. Learning martial arts at 30yrs old is not an easy task. Having said that I’ve had more fun in this class then I ever had at any gym workout. The team building and constant learning is something I really look forward to. The professor is nice and professional. The gym is very clean. All of the students I’ve worked with are great and really care about helping you learn the moves. Come try out a class and see if you like it. After the first session I was hooked!!
Alex at Love Plus One: Martials arts is a one of a kind experience. I always wanted to try as a kid and now in my early 30s I finally got the chance. After one class I was hooked. The facility is great. Small & cozy but its all you need. The instruction is top notch. Both professor & sensei are nice people and great teachers. The students are very helpful and welcoming. I love the fact that im getting a workout in while constantly learning new things. Not only has this class improved my self defense skills on the street but it also changes your way of thinking and will help you live a more calm and balanced life. Try you first class free and see for yourself what its all about!
Reese: Great and well knowledgeable place to obtain skills to defend yourself from ground attacks. The staff was personable and provide insights on Brazilian Jitsu as well as advised that private self defense course for group can be scheduled. I am definitely going to look into the group self defense course.
Shelby: I'm so happy I decided to stop by here while I was in town! Everyone was very helpful and welcoming. The facility was clean and I loved rolling on their mats. I was surprised at the amount of people in the classes I attended that made it great to work with those with similar size / belts, but also wasn't overcrowded. Will definitely be back!
Joseph Blanton: I've trained at Fresh bjj for 3 years and I enjoy training with my bjj brothers and sisters. I've learned so much about myself through the experience and my confidence has never been higher and at the same time I've never been so humbled . I 100% recommend Fresh Brazilian jui jitsu to anyone looking to learn true street applicable Martial arts.
Hilary Mattei: My daughter has been attending the kid’s Jiu Jitsu class twice a week for almost a year now, and it’s insane how much she has improved socially and with more discipline. She is learning a valuable skill for self defense that can be applied if the situation ever did arise that she was to be physically assaulted. The monthly membership is definitely affordable and worth it when you see the progress! I would definitely recommend this Jiu Jitsu academy.
Tom McCaw: I joined about 8 months ago and couldn't be happier with the instruction and comradery at this school. Everyone from the instructors to the students are welcoming, understanding, and helpful to say the least. There is an emphasis on technique which I appreciate because I feel like if I had to use this to defend myself I could do so effectively, and I always leave feeling refreshed and confident.
marcel clark: So far so good great instructors. My son love the place . I like the fact that the instructors engaged to students on perfecting their technique
Kory Trombley: Fresh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has literally been my second home, getaway, exercise facility and social hang out for nearly the past decade. I have been fortunate enough to train and learn from Professor Fresh since the school's establishment. I've also been honored to train and help teach in the adult and children classes for the last several years. If you want to learn Brazilian Jiu jitsu in a way that you can feel confident to be able to use to protect yourself and your loved ones then this is the school for you. Everything thing Professor Fresh teaches is practical for everyday use in the real world. Not only is the school great for self defense but it is an amazing opportunity to exercise and meet a great group of people who truly care for one another and help each other grow as martial artists and people.Additionally, we currently offer classes in Wing Chun and Capoeira, both led by phenomenal instructors, and a children's BJJ program for ages 6+.If you've ever wondered about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or wanted to get into the martial arts come check us out, you won't be disappointed.
William Creer: Like a 2nd home
Brett Kotas: I have now trained two years here, and it is by far one of the best places to train. Professor Fresh, Sensei Rick, and Kory always make everyone feel welcome. They are very good with all levels of Jiu Jitsu. Unlike most black belts Professor Fresh will work with everyone in the club no matter their rank or skill level. I recommend anyone serious about learning jiu jitsu to come train here. They have kids classes to for kids younger than 16 also.
michael c: Great attitudes and thorough, knowledgeable instructors.
John Hollerbach: Great place to learn Aikido and BJJ. Great staff and a very clean dojo!
thomas roberts: This place is amazing... I have two boys that train there 8 & 11 and they have been training there for about 5months now but in this short amount of time I'm seeing my boys grow from my baby's into young men especially my 8year old! It's hard enough to fear for our kids when they are out here in this word without us in these trying times so as a Parent I want my kids to be able to take care of there selves and protect the one they love an care about that aren't able to do so for there selves but only if need be. Sensei Kory is amazing with the kids an very skilled in Brazilian jujitsu as well as many other martial arts techniques so your babies will be in great hands. It has a very laid-back atmosphere with a group of wonderful parents and grandparents that are aloud to sit in the dojo as your kids are training so you can get a full understanding of what they are leaning. Professor Fresh is with out a doubt the man and I'm forever grateful for his establishment and the beautiful souls that help make this place our home away from home as well as many others. But please don't take my word for it please take a little time an swing on by an see for your self an everyone will tell you the same as I just have but Thank you I get a little long winded an Gods blessing to you all
Rick Graham: I've trained with Professor Fresh since i was a white belt now as a brown belt I'm still amaze at the small key points in basic and advanced concept he still point out that make the technique work
Angelica Herndon: Professor Antwan Fresh is an amazing instructor! Extremely knowledgeable not only in Jiu Jitsu but in self defense and making your jiu jitsu street applicable as well. Being a female it is always nerve wracking to go into a predominantly male atmosphere, but I was welcomed with open arms. never once have i felt uncomfortable and that is an amazing feeling to have all that intimidation immediately washed away! we are a family here at Fresh BJJ and I wouldn't trade this experience for any other place. you truly get what you pay for here and then some! never leave class without being dead tired and a huge new bucket of information to process.
Evangelos Routsis: Professor Fresh is an amazing Brazilian JiuJitsu instructor. I've been training at the school for 5 years now and it's the best thing I have done. I feel more confident with myself, and it helps you become a better person as well. We are a family at the school and all of us work together to improve. There are no egos. If you want to build confidence, learn the best self defense, get in shape, and have fun, then this is the place to be.
Paul De Masi: To say that it is a life changing experience is an understatement. I've been training with Professor Fresh for 3 years now. I went from a 42 waist down to 36, lol. No joke. I love it here. Were a family!!!! there are no egos to deal with. He works us within an inch of our lives. I love it, and will never leave it.

Mejishi Martial Arts: what do users think?
maria Mitchell kipila: Love Mejishi Martial Arts and every Sensei that instructs there! They are tough, strict, and very structured, with just the right amount of love, fun, and healthy competition. It's a family-owned business and feels like you are a part of the family. We take pride in Mejishi and its students as much as we do our own daughter, who has attended since around 2019. They handled the pandemic with caution, creativity, and flexibility, and we felt very safe the whole time. They challenge and inspire our daughter to be the best she can, and encourage and support her so she can be. My husband and I both attend each and every lesson, and karate has become a cherished routine for us. We have friends that have joined, and we have made friends by joining. They have scholarships, accept payment via money apps, and are very affordable. They also have the uniforms and belts on site for purchase. We love its convenient location and the Ferndale community as well, though you have to pay for parking. Mejishi is very involved in Ferndale and has the same inclusive, diversity-loving values. We love Senseis Jaye and Sue, and hope our daughter never wants to quit! Maybe when she quits, we'll join, their classes are all-ages after all ;)
Tara Miller: I enrolled my son here at age 5 and he is now age 6 and I plan to keep him here throughout his life. It is a wonderful school. Sensei Jaye is an excellent, experienced, thorough, professional who teaches the young class very well. Her other dojo teachers that help out are alsoexcellent. I am very pleased and impressed with this school and so glad I chose it.
Naddy: Came for a work related event, did a self defense class. Very clean and the class was well organized. Jay, the owner, is very welcoming, knows her stuff and keeps her class in order to make sure you get your times worth. Was even provided with information to take home. Feeling prepared to defend myself using a variety of techniques if the times comes.
Sylvia Heggen: Grandchildren take various karate classes at Mejishi. I'm very happy with the individual care given to each child's abilities and progress.
Paul Taylor: Karate and Arnis classes are offered for children, teens, and adults at costs that are competitive with similar area dojos. In addition to traditional martial arts, the school acts as a community center offering yoga, meditation, women's self defense classes, and more.
Derek Dunbar: Friendly and inviting family atmosphere, without sacrificing quality detailed instruction and high training standards. FANTASTIC for beginners of all ages (YES, bring your 4-year-old; you won't be sorry! NO, you are not too old to start!) and anyone that has always wanted to learn a fighting art from Level 0 without compromise and without judgement.I have over 10 years of martial arts training in three different disciplines -empty hand and armed, military and civilian - and I can say unequivocally that this is an *excellent* dojo.My 5-year-old son ended up here through the school-parent grapevine and I wasn't expecting much...but I couldn't have been more wrong. Within a month I had joined a class as well and the instructors accepted my lack of knowledge in their art, prior experience in other arts, and persistent injuries and took them in a graceful stride that cannot be understated.Young children learn discipline, respect, mindfulness, and the pride of hard-earned progression through positive reinforcement. Fitness is encouraged at all levels, totally judgement-free. Solid street-level self-defense is deftly incorporated into the curriculum. You truly cannot do better than Sensei Jaye and her team.
Freddy T: My child loves the instructors but they recently called me at 7:41pm on a Friday night to give me a hard time because we owed them $3. THREE DOLLARS. We have had a child enrolled for a few months now and we come in every week. My wife often keeps the other kids quiet and helps to chaperone when other parents have to leave their kids and come back and pick them up. She brought in cash and paid this week but I guess she didn't realize the price was more if we dropped a day from our schedule. We apparently now owe an additional $3 because technically we were late to pay the full amount so now we are being assessed a 10% late fee. Sorry but you could have handled yourself differently. Did you think that was a good move for business? You may want to consider a different location to take your children.
