Lantern Coffee Bar and Lounge: what do users think?
Samantha Dilling: I love tea, and I love that they are so knowledgeable about tea and that it is brewed loose leaf. It's a great place with a very calm and friendly atmosphere.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Gabriella Hernandez: excellent espresso! good vibes, cozy and they just started roasting their own coffee. An absolute staple to the GR coffee scene and I respect all that they’re doing :) Also lots of non-coffee options, fun pastries and space to hang.
Ben Newsted: This is the first bad review I have ever left.I said "thank you" after getting my coffee and the barista did not respond.I lived in Portland, Oregon for seven years. Always had friendly baristas at Stumptown and all other roasters.
Daniel Schumaker: Great beverages, great bagels, great atmosphere, and a good playlist. That's all a place like this needs and they deliver. Check it out some time, I highly recommend it for a quiet workplace or a coffee date.
Julie Pallas: Kinda bummed being called Lantern I was hoping for different kinds of lanterns to be hanging everywhere.

Robert Anderson: A higher-end coffee shop that deals with urban realities in a pretty dignified way. There's no way to get on the bad side of these guys, I have yet to be disrespected despite any situation. Still around after years, still local Elites and, well, us lesser-bank-endowed folk, drinking coffee together in mutual dignity. Bring big money for the opener on coffee, as a non-coffee expert, I can safely say this is among the finest pour-over and brewed coffee in Michigan. But what do I know. The internet is fast and the entry for an urban coffee is buy a coffee and be respectful. Act your part if you show up, everyone else does around here.

Squibb Coffee and Wine Bar: what do users think?
Tanner Hamilton: Took around an hour for the server to cut up some bland cheese and put it on a board. Expensive and really not worth it for what you get.
Abby Meadows: Great atmosphere. However, if you’re going to offer a $16 cheese/meat plate, especially when all other food options were crossed off the menu and apparently unavailable six hours before you close, please take the time to educate your staff on the cheese and meat selection you have available. Also, WEAR GLOVES when handling the food. Watching the barista slice a sample of the cheese with his bare hands and then offer it up to the customer pinched between his bare fingers decorated with chipping nail polish pretty much killed my appetite. The baristas were both very nice but the complete lack of training/knowledge was astounding.
Mirabel Wieland: Dietary restrictions accommodated Not sureMore
Stephanie Hickel: We had our baby shower at Squibb and were very pleased with the event. Mallory and Angel did a great job bartending (coffee drinks, wine and beer) and the charcuterie was great! I highly recommend Squibb for private events!
Nicholas Brown: Barista didnt give any suggestions sorry i dont know coffee very well but a little help would be very appreciated :/ i like black coffee but fancy names sound enticing, if I had known I would have gotten something else. Hopefully I have some good service next time I like this place
jim: Some warm brown, from beans
Olivia Al-Eisa: Only ever been here for coffee/breakfast but it’s always good. Any toast or coffee is a win.Recommended dishes Burrata Toast …More
Dave Skorupski: Nice ma & pa coffee and wine shop, serving premium beverages and light menu items. In the morning, you'll find a good range of coffee offerings, from Americano to Lattes, as well as an assortment of teas. While my visit was only in morning hours, a wide variety of wines.Prices are about what you'd expect from a mid-sized establishment.Parking: As this shop is among a string of businesses, parking can be tricky. Street parking is accessible, but free parking will mostly depend on timing. There is, however, a shared lot behind the building, but most of the spaces are dedicated to specific businesses, so it's a little unclear if Squibb has its own spots.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair entry is available from the rear of the building.
tim authier: This place is weird.Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
Buddy Curry: Great lattes! Hipster ambiance and wine.
Josiah W Bostrom: Literally the bestFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Ryan: Solid coffee place.
Nathan Roels: Nice coffee shop, I enjoyed the coffee and the service was really good.
Austin Wilson: Horrible vibes
jkvalk: Helpful and kind staff, quick and accurate service, good coffee and enjoyable atmosphere.
Adrianne Adelle: Great foodies and drinks, great peeps running the joint.
Onora Lancaster: The food was great, we had the toast with goat cheese and chai, which was delicious. The service made both my sister and I extremely uncomfortable, one particular barista barely spoke to us and stared us down. We were really polite but none of our niceties were returned by the barista. To our knowledge, we didn't do anything wrong and so my sister was uncomfortable because she suspected discrimination (she was the only black person in the coffeeshop so of course it made her on-edge). We will not be returning. Not necessarily a reason not to come here, more of just a heads-up/warning.
Lauren Knight: Nice, clean coffee spot. Plenty of space inside to enjoy a latte and get some reading in.
Michael Waldron: Awesome environment, great coffee and cheese.
Jonathan Bassett: It's pricey, with a latte costing about $6-7, but it's too hard to resist. I get the cinnamon rose latte and have been addicted since.
Bethany Buchanan: Yummy and cute

The Sparrows Coffee & Tea & Newsstand: what do users think?
Erin Routledge: I've been visiting Scorpion Hearts club for the last year, and here is why I stopped going there altogether. Many from Grand Rapids love this little coffee shop, formerly known as Sparrows. However, I have experienced some things and have learned a lot that puts a bad taste in my mouth. We as a community are obligated to support and protect each other and that includes making sure everyone is entitled to a living wage.In the past year, many baristas that I have come to know and talk to have left. I overheard an interview in which I learned that the starting wage for Scorpion Hearts club is $9. Ask yourself if you could live off of that. Now, you may say, but tips! "So many people tip and this brings their wages up significantly." While tipping can help, it is not promised and I do not believe that any worker should have to rely on tips to make a living wage. No one should have to rely on a stranger to tip them $3 so they can pay their bills.I have also witnessed several times where there was only one poor barista during a rush and had 10+ coffees to make themselves.I also want to point out that with the returned ownership, all the drinks went up in price, however, the workers still make $9/hr. I urge this company to take a hard look at themselves and question if they cannot pay their workers fairly, do they deserve to own a business? Multiple other small businesses AND large franchises pay a higher base rate.Besides this, there are many other instances that made me uncomfortable and turned me off of this establishment. If you are counting on the wifi to do work, you might as well never come here. On average, the wifi has to be reset multiple times in a 3-4 hour basis and I often felt like I was being a nuisance by asking them to check it. Much easier to just go somewhere where I know the wifi is reliable. I would recommend they upgrade or get rid of it all together. Please remember that small business ≠ ethical practices and I urge you to be an informed consumer. Try a different shop that treats their employees and guests fairly. The coffee is okay, but there's great coffee other places too.
Antonio Altamirano: A coffee shop with a soul. Go for the pour over dark roast and stay for the socially conscious art, books and greeting cards. One of my favorite coffee spots in Grand Rapids!
My Grand Rapids Life My Grand Rapids Life: This coffee shop is definitely one of my favorites in the area, and there are many reasons why.First and foremost, the atmosphere at Scorpion Hearts Club is absolutely fantastic. It's a cozy and welcoming space that feels like a home away from home. Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to work or a place to catch up with friends, this coffee shop is perfect. And of course, the coffee itself is top-notch. The baristas at Scorpion Hearts Club really know their stuff and take pride in creating the perfect cup of coffee every time. You're sure to be impressed by the quality and attention to detail that goes into each and every drink.Overall, I would highly recommend Scorpion Hearts Club to anyone looking for a great coffee shop in Grand Rapids. With its welcoming atmosphere, top-notch coffee and food, and friendly staff, it's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great cup of coffee.
Mac Wolf: i am so glad i discovered this shop! the coffee is so delicious, they have a lot of cool art and records for sale, and this place has awesome vibes all around
Noelle Loomis: Super cute shop, recommended to me by a friend. I loved the atmosphere here and there were so many cute things to buy aside from coffee and food. I ordered a lavender vanilla latte with oatmilk and it did not dissapoint!Dietary restrictions: They have plenty of milk alternatives for the vegan or lactose intolerant!

Tisha Rios: Warm friendly atmosphere

Mia Berg: Great place - definitely visit! To clarify, they used to be Sparrow’s and recently renamed, but it is still the wonderful, modern, and creative coffee shop you’re after!I went last Saturday (01/21) and the girl who took my order/prepared my drink was probably one of the kindest people I’ve met, to both myself and to other customers. She was such a pleasure to get to talk to 😊The ambiance was really cool and there is a good amount of seating—just be warned that on a weekend afternoon, they can fill up fast!

Harmony Heykoop: This place is amazing. The energy is immaculate, the staff is genuinely kind, and the drinks are absolutely delicious! They also have a free lending library and food pantry. Amazing, amazing, amazing!Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Jessica Yount: If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Not only is the coffee amazing, the vibe is unmatched. It's so important to intentional with how you spend your money and spending local is so important to me. But to have a place that aligns with your core values is so unique. Ten times over best coffee shop in West Michigan
Marie Gabrielle: grand rapids has been missing a space like this. amazing experience/drinks/environment
Nate Hunt: A sunny spot next to the zoo with delicious coffees and mocktails, a free lending library, and food pantry. They do a lot of good in the city and are a safe space for the queer community.
Brooke Fugate: This place is more than just a coffee shop, it’s one of the only places I feel like I can truly be myself publicly in Grand Rapids and feel welcomed. There are so many community resources, the owner makes a point to centralize support and making a safe community space as well as the best and most affordable cup of coffee you can get in the city. I felt really uplifted frequenting here during hard times in my life, and attended many of the social events they host. Before finding their events, I couldn’t find any queer community spaces in the area. Excellent coffee, cozy/peaceful environment, free library, a service industry discount on top of affordable prices, community events… plus they pay baristas $20/hour and put their money where their mouth is as far as valuing their employees, which can’t be said for many businesses in the city. I can easily say this is the best establishment in Grand Rapids and I’m constantly recommending it to folks in West Michigan.
kelsey w: such an amazing local business. treats employees well and cares so so much about the community.
Lauren Brandt: Wonderful, local queer coffee shop. The owner cares deeply about their workers and their customers. Weekly events/groups such as a drawing social and fiber arts group. Free lending library, free pantry, and a kindness cup for anyone struggling. I always feel welcome. This coffee spot feels like a community and it's my favorite place in Grand Rapids. Follow them on Instagram @lotusbrewcoffeedrybar for their secret menu items and updates on events. Love the energy of this place.
Haley Rademacher: Absolutely amazing local business. Lotus is a prime example of why local businesses are so important - they are so much more than a coffee shop and a shining example of caring for your community. Their coffee is excellent (best cold brew I have ever had), but their commitment to their neighbors is even better. They offer a no questions asked pantry for anyone who could use support, a small library collection, and serve as a genuinely safe in the community. It is incredibly refreshing to see a business doing the right thing, caring for their neighbors, not for optics or for press coverage, but because they genuinely want to. I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Megan Hoberg: Loved stopping by here on the way into work. 10/10 cappuccino - and excited to try all of the other options! You could feel the sense of community right when you walked through the door - can’t wait to come back soon!!!
Lee E: I’m a pretty harsh critic of coffee shops and products, which is why I don’t have many of those reviews on my page. Generally speaking, I’ve narrowed my criteria to vibe, then product, recognizing supply chain, cost and other variables in my personal assessments. What I admire about Lotus Brew is that a lot of thought seems to have gone in to the business structure. Whether it’s food and drink offerings and brands, events, hours, or staff - care and thought has been put into it.All that to say, there are a wide variety of drinks and everything I have tried has hit the mark. The cold brews are very good even without milk or syrup, and I think my favorite seasonal drink so far has been the lavender lemon matcha latte, iced.Food options are in line with a cafe - very good bagels with real butter, quality pastries and options for those with special requirements like low sugar, and dairy-free. I should note they carry almond milk. They also have a menu of mocktails. The vibe is cozy and option-filled as there is a well stocked library, a community board full of diverse locals to support, a good amount of seating. The events are likewise diverse and thoughtfully community-focused.I frequent Lotus Brew, and savor its offerings.
David Pickle: Such an amazing place and good coffee. They offer alot of variety and love the baristaFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
S. Liskova: My only gripe with Lotus is that it's not big enough to hold all my friends. Great tea selection, decent coffee, vegan baked goods, and Max, the owner, is one of the kindest souls I've ever met. This is probably the best place to meet queer people in GR.
Jason Stiles: I love the atmosphere of this little coffee house. The staff are very pleasant. Don't be in a rush grab a drink and go.Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Cody DeLano: Certified good vibesFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Autumn Dreisbach: The instant I walked through the front door I felt so incredibly welcome and comfortable. The vibes: immaculate. So much to interact with, whether it be the shelves of books or board games anyone can borrow, or the plethora of community posts next to the small food bank table. Coziest and the most delicious hot or cold drinks and the friendliest people behind the counter. It feels like more than just a place to get grab a cup 3
Chris Calhoun: Very nice staff. Excellent coffee. They make my favorite mocha in town. The atmosphere is very inclusive and inviting. All in all just a great place.
Connor McLaren: Beautiful location and experience, the owner is thoughtful, caring, and personable and it really showsFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Passionfruit, Honey&Cinnamon, Game Night …More
Ashton Holland: Stumbled upon this place while trying to get tea/coffee with a friend, glad to have made the stop here and taken the time to eat inside. One of a kind shop that supports its community and provides a strong message of inclusivity and support for all that need it. Will come back when in the area for the peacefulness and great coffee, not to mention a delicious bagelParking: Parking in the vicinity
Jessica Zachar: My favorite coffee place! Great drinks and very welcoming. So many little things make this place unique - the books, the board games, the community pantry, the "kindness cup" program. A must-visit for coffee, tea, mocktails, and atmosphere.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

My Grand Rapids Life My Grand Rapids Life: Coffee lovers, Rowsters Coffee in Eastown Grand Rapids is a must-visit! Sit at the window and watch Wealthy Street go by while sipping on their tasty mocha or any of their other great caffeinated beverages. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make it the perfect spot to catch up with friends or relax alone. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Hudson Taber: For whatever reason, Mod bars make the tastiest cortados. Reminded me of Anthology over in Detroit. Also the aesthetic and baristas are stellar.
Keegan Kallmyer: Best baristas in townFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Clark Thompson: Bathroom was very gross and dirty. Coffee was good but expectations were high going in. Barista's latte art was excellent. Hung out and read for a little bit but ambiance was a little too stark qnd echoey.Parking: Very limited free spots in the back. Lucky to get one.
Heather Miller: Had a gift card, so I went to use that. I absolutely love coffee shops, so it would be hard to find one I wouldn't give a good rating to. This one is at the top of the list as far as flavor. I can't have any dairy and am sensitive to almost everything. I got an Americano with lavender. My daughters both got Chai. They said it was the best Chai they have had. Service was FANTASTIC!!

Justin Mullins: Absolutely don't do reoccurring online orders. Very solid coffee, but they have very poor customer service and can't even send the right tier bag you pay for. I have tried contacting them 3 times now, and they keep shafting me and telling me they'll call back or their email was down. Rowsters owes me my money back.
Christian Hall: Great vibe and drinks. Lily is awesome! Super kind and helpful. Would definitely come back.
J G: This used to be my favorite coffee shop 2015-2017. I stopped by in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and even bought Milky Way beans online several times. It's just not as good as it used to be. The beans might as well have been Folgers they packed so little flavor. I don't use house made almond milk anymore, and my latte tasted disgusting. Espresso was still good in house. Staff is always great though.
Joseph Apolo: Such a cool place! Their coffee is rich and smooth.Their GM David always treats us right! Highly recommended.
Zach Richardson: Great little place! Kind staff, plenty of seating and outlets, and tasty drinks! Recommend the CubanoDine in: Yes …More
Falon Anjel: Excellent espresso!! Great staff.
TJ Velde: Was in GR for a short visit, and sampled three coffee joints during my stay. The other two cafes to be reviewed received 5/5; Rowster receives 4/5. Rowster remains safely above the average for coffee shops in GR, but seems to have some distance to go to make the list for someone hailing from the Pacific Northwest.Service was less than expedient, and the latte lacked character and texture. What’s with cafes in GR not offering lattes in anything over 12oz portions? Spare me and “specialty shop” BS and allow customers that know what they want a way to get a 16/20oz quad.Nice to have Rowster adding the Wealthy Street vibe (I actually lived off Wealthy St prior to revitalization) but at $6 for a less than memorable 12oz late, they’re priced above market value (even from a West Coast perspective.)

J.: Rowsters is my favorite coffee of all time. A little disappointed they stopped having homemade fresh almond milk. That was what really drew me in to go their often. Fortunately another coffee shop in the area has homemade almond milk. Will continue to stop into rowsters once in awhile.

Madcap Coffee Company: what do users think?
Matthew Taub: Excellent Cappuccino. Good atmosphere with friendly and fast service. Highly recommend going here over Starbucks.
Jackson Brooks: There are some really great things about this cafe. The location and atmosphere are great. And the baristas were really friendly and knowledgeable. I got their coffee flight, which came with an espresso, black coffee, and a small milk based drink. The milk drink was very good, but unfortunately both the black coffee and the espresso were very underextracted. So I can't say I was impressed with the drinks themselves. I also bought some beans which were excellent, but also double the price of the comparable beans I buy from amazing roasters back home. So in summary, great location, staff, and beans, but they need to dial in their drinks, and I don't know if I am willing to pay their premium prices.
J Kremer: Typical downtown coffee shop. Quiet place to sit and relax. It is a bit more expensive than other coffee places around.Buyer beware; if you get a coffee to go, it will be much smaller than what you would normally get in store. You can see it in my photos. They were the same price and "same size." Definitely not worth it.
K W: The coffee was great, atmosphere was uncomfortable and workers not very friendly.Food: 5/5|Service: 1/5|Atmosphere: 1/5 …More

Taressa Van Dam: My friend got the the something yam latte. It sounds weird but was actually really good. Came with little roasted marshmallows on top 🤩
Michelle Strain: Coffee is always outstanding here!
Jayla Wesley: can’t go a week without a visit to this cafe. baristas and staff are phenomenal and super sweet. their espresso (available to purchase as well) is top tier. I noticed that I am picky when it comes to espresso and coincidentally out my two favorite coffee shops in GR, both use the La Marzocco espresso machine. If that means anything to you this is your place, if it doesn’t stop in anyway to taste what I’m talking about. I do recommend coming in earlier though, this place is a hot spot on the weekends especially. and try the cafe miel! It’s a favorite i can’t get away from.p.s. they don’t charge you for alternative milk options. I never understood the insane up charge for milk that actually suits my stomach, here you don’t have to worry about that
Joe Escareno: What nice place to relax and enjoy something to drink!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Ben Sherwin: Fantastic specialty coffee. Always a stop i prioritise when in town.

Zaletchi Georgia: The place is great, the coffee is delicious.I will definitely come back here!
Sarah Matzen: Best Acai bowls in Grand Rapids! This place is a hidden gem! Love that they have Nitro cold brew. My favorite coffee shop in the area, great prices too.
Patricia Reed: Went in for lunch and ordered a coffee and a sandwich. The coffee came out right away, but I had to wait over 45 minutes for the food. It tasted fine, but I don’t recommend going here if you want something to eat within a reasonable timeframe.
Faith Jaciuk: Ordered the pour over, the coffee tasted like regular coffee. Was extremely busy. Needs more staff
Isaac Hamlet: Rented out the space, at a very reasonable price, for a personal event. The owner was very flexible and accommodating, the coffee was very good and the space was perfect for the event!
Michele Thorson: Great tea! Great environment! Great service! I love the personalized atmosphere instead of the run of the mill chain coffee shops. The breakfast items are delicious, too. Highly recommend!
Brooklyn Dearing: I do not know know much about coffee, but the baristas were super kind and helpful! One of them made me their favorite drink, an iced latte with pumps of white chocolate and lavender and oat milk. IT IS SO GOOD! I feel like I am drinking Spring itself, 10/10 great coffee and even better service 💜
Jessica Morgan: The barristas were very sweet and helpful as I tried to make a sweetened coffee that works with my diet. Delicious coffee and comfortable atmosphere.
T T: The sign on the door said it closed at 2pm Saturday, but the door was locked at 1:38. That's kinda frustrating.
Michael Horowitz: Friendly and courteous service. Great nitro coffee. Child loved the bubble tea. I usually frequent a coffee chain for fear of the unknown, was happy I have this place a try.
Zachary Parsons: It was okay, nothing bad just nothing great.
Angela W: Friendly service
