Better Health Market & Cafe: what do users think?
Brianna Garrett: The new store manager Justin I believe went out of his way to ensure the lunch that I purchased from the Cafe was prepared correctly. The cashier Nick I believe was super kind, gave a great recommendation on candy and even helped me carry my bags. People can make or break any business and these employees definitely helped create a much better experience to keep me as a customer!
Sheila Stutz: Very helpful!
Cl9ud Nine: Went in today to purchase the black seed oil. Seen a brand marked down in slotted location on the shelf. Was later told that it was the wrong slot and price should have been located a few spots down. But there wasn't any open slots or double placement of the product. But the manager grabbed the tag to remove the current labled product and price location. And wanted me to pay double the price marked. I Won't purchase a item thats overpriced but is the regular price of a top brand on Amazon.
amber petersen: Good prices. Nice employees.
Jeffrey W: Better Health??!! I went there at my son's request as he had to return a powdered drink enhancement he bought the day before that was 8 months past the expiration date ($40 bucket). So I grabbed a coupon out of booklet I had and decided to try the salad bar a 1pm. The cold "salad bar" looked ok but the "warm food bar" looked awful. Many trays were empty or food was dried out. I still was dumb enough to grab a few items off both sides as I was hoping it was better than part of it looked (and regretted my choice later as it was awful QUALITY). My son who is a customer there was wiser than me (or knew something from past experiences) as he declined any food. The kicker was when I went to check out, they cashier told me I could not use the 15% off coupon on food. Whaaat? Petty BS, I did not see that disclaimer anywhere on the coupon and will try to double check when I get another one. However, I will not go back there again no matter what the coupon says for their over priced, under quality food bar. Nor their expired vitamins.
Matt Martyn: Always great restaurant, salad bar, and groceries! A favorite.
AnDReA “Oni” D.: We love this place! Great place to get some knowledge and vitamins and they have some great sales. Thanks so much for all the yummy food.Oh they have super delicious entrées that are ready to go in the cooler by the deli. Highly recommended for an inexpensive and healthy meal.
william remensnyder: Great service
D L: Terrible customer service
A M: Called ahead of time to place an order for the cafe and we ended up getting there before we actually got connected. We decided to do the grab and go and the food was so old and disgusting we couldn't eat it. The grapes were covered in mold, the tortilla wrap was so soggy you couldn't pick it up, the salad was soft and old. I don't know if they change their date on their stickers or just use really awful produce to begin with, but we will never again be going here. The customer service was also terrible. First of all the phone service, then when we get in there are 3 people at the check out leaning on the counters, on their phones, and gabbing. Greeted by no one even though the place was dead. Another customer was having a hard time flagging down someone to order food at the cafe. Also the hot food bar looked like it had been sitting there for days. So grossed out by this location.
Yahoo: Bottom of the barrel place. Better off going to any other vitamin/supplement place or ordering from a discount place online. 15+ yrs and customer service is still bad. Used to be 70ish lady (possibly owner) and now it's guys (1 with extremely bad b.o.) that talk amongst themselves about the gimmicks of the supplements being sold. Employees unhelpful as they have no clue about supplements but offered to help find things. The items they actually had available I found myself after employee offered something different and said they didn't carry it. Shelf prices are lower than what it rings up and cashier was annoyed and ignored it while wanting to proceed with a phone #. Avoid this place.
Demetria Stewart: 2/20/22 5:30 You would think with all the small bottles of vitamins in the store the employees would offer to assist instead of continuously cackling behind the counter while customers roam being offered no help.
Kylie Arsenault: love the wide variety of vegan options
Walter V. Marshall: Great place for quick meetings and healthy food.
Robin Frey: Cold..terrible vegetable pizza. Squash on top was uncooked..hard. Didn't know that they could create a pizza then place hard pieces of squash on top.. not a good plan folks! Smoothy ordered was saving grace.
Ben Chandler: Best vegan burger in the area! Kind and helpful staff as well.
EL PARAISO STAR A: Very good healthy nutritious good variety of selection daily.
Bill Theibert: Wouldn't allow me to shop without a mask despite having a medical exemption. Everything was fine until I got to the register. I have a doctor's note but they made quite clear it didn't matter. I will not be back. The worse part was after being told I couldn't shop there and as I was leaving the store another employee approached me at the door to give me a lecture. Mind you I asked this employee for help prior to the whole incident taking place. I was leaving, they could've left it alone.
Adam Guggemos: Very optional. Today I was gifted as it is better healths anniversary. This was gifted to me
Antonio M: This location is better than some of the others. It has a small selection of produce and when the salad bar was running, it was great! Unfortunately the cafe leaves much to be desired. They are usually out of most ingredients and the display cases for deli items are very sad. Decent packaged goods section for a quick stop of your usual health food.
Gail Walters: Staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. I really like this store and the prices are great too! Feel like I was reprimanded because my mask slipped a little and failed to cover my nose entirely when I was asking a question, after I spent a considerable amount of money at this store!!

Gretchen Brown: The Leaf 🍃. Oh, how I've missed you. I used to eat here quite frequently when I worked in EL. The boss is in town for the week. He took us to lunch, but we had to decide on the place. It was a no-brainer.The selections you have available are outstanding, and no salad bar can compare. From the 3 types of lettuce to the 30,000 toppings (a little exaggerated) and all the selections of dressings. Hats off to you folks. Thank you for a great lunch. You made my tummy happy. 🙂
Casandra Cole: Please give Heidi a raise. She let us come on despite trying to close. I was grieving and needed healthy food but couldn't process preparation and her excellent service and over the top helpfulness made the already delicious food taste even better.

VEG-N: what do users think?
John Johnson: My girlfriend and I makes plans on road trips to visit vegan restaurants. Coming back to GR from Ann Arbor, we had planned to stop here and were not disappointed. She had a chickn sammich (pictured) and I had the rueben B-N burger. (I deeply apologize for not having a picture but I ate it before that thought crossed my mind). It was that damn good! We shared a basket of sweet potato fries with jalapeño ranch which was amazing, as well. Their sauces are house-made and quite literally the bomb. I highly recommend this place if you are a local OR sojourner vegan.Kid-friendliness: Vegan cookies, stickers, kid-centric vegan coloring pages with good information on them for kids to 'digest'.
Benjamin Hawkins: So glad I found this place. I am vegetarian and lactose intolerant so I am always down for trying a vegan place. Sometimes vegan alternatives are underwhelming, but this place exceeded my exceptions! Especially for taste!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
AJ's Place: Was in the area and thought we’d give them a try. We order over $60 worth of food and maybe for someone who likes vegan junk food or is curious about substitutes for meat, possibly but we were disappointed with the quality and overall taste of our food. It seemed as though the “chicken” was nothing more than Boca Patties and the “wings” were very disappointing for the prices! They seemed to be Gardein chicken wings/tenders. If a restaurant is going to use these mock meats may be try to transform them in the dish and make them a bit more of personalized recipe for their restaurant. It was just a no for us. Some of the food went uneaten, unfortunately. However, the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich was tasty!
Jonathan Northrup: DELICIOUS!!
Jon Northrup: Delicious!
Ms B: This place has a large selection of delicious comfort food. Looking to indulge in some junk food feasting? This is it! So many things to choose from so read the menu in advance. They also have healthier salads and bowls. A perfect place for anyone wanting to explore vegan food without intimidation. They also gave us a few free dessert items. Thank you! I am veganish and my adult child is vegan. It is awesome to go into a restaurant knowing you can choose anything without being limited to just side dishes. Cool veg stickers and bags too. The only negative that we could come up with is that our stomachs were way too full.
Reese Clark: Excellent fast food stop in general! Even if you don't follow a vegan diet, you will not be disappointed. Will definitely return soon.
JSTS: Quality control issues. Sometimes when I order things are really good, but more often than most I feel like toppings are cut short considering how expensive a single dish is.I almost always get the chilli-cheezy fries. Only once or twice have I received a fair amount of chilli and cheese on top. The other times have been maybe a spoonful of chilli and a few shredded pieces of cheese. This time with overcooked fries. For $10 I would expect the fries to be loaded and not so naked. I really really want to encourage supporting vegan restaurants but I'm pretty disappointed with the inconsistencies.
Sara: Super friendly and food was good!Recommended dishes Chicken Sandwich, Cookies …More
Dagatha Christiansen: The customer service alone deserves 5 stars. They were very helpful with allergy information. I usually avoid restaurants that don’t have this information on the menu because I don’t want to be “difficult” by asking but they were kind and let me know that several menu items were also gluten free. They even made me gluten free cookies so I wasn’t left out when everyone else got a regular cookie The food was excellent and we’ll definitely pop in every time we are nearby. Thank you guys for such a great experience!
SYNDICATE: I would rate 3 1/2 stars if I could.I ordered online and my only issue with that is that there was no description for the crispy chicken and the build your own options felt limited - when I did order, since it felt limited I called about additional items - I was told I didn't need to call again and they got my request! I was excited but when I arrived unfortunately it wasn't quite right...I ordered a coke and was handed a diet Pepsi at the counter. Which is fine quick switch no problem. But, later after getting home I also found out that the lettuce and tomato was missing on my crispy chicken. This was disappointing because it felt like it really needed that. To summarize the food felt a little overpriced and I wish the order was accurate! Please fix the website. It tasted good despite this.
This is Awesome: I am very very impressed with what I ordered. Enough that I wanted to leave a review. Genuinely good food.
Drew Tanner: Cute little shop. It was so good!!!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Hunny Mustard Vegg-E Patty Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, Cookies …More

Brian Maxwell: First time going. Will definitely be back.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Andrew Laxton: Very tasty!
D M (Deej): I ate my food so fast, I forgot to take a picture.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Melissa Bee: Okay food, but not great. Friendly staff but slow service...Food: 3/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Leona Ortiz: One of my fav vegan places in the area. Have tried many diff dishes and never disappoints. Can’t get enough of the brisket basket
Katelyn Olin: soo yummy! and awesome service!
Andrea 1994: The customer service was absolutely amazing. And the food was so delicious. I will definitely be checking out this location the next time I’m in town. I love the fact that they explain the menu to me.

Just had breakfast with my beautiful partner and we agree this was an excellent meal! We had the pancakes and Still Ain’t Broke. Eggs made perfectly and that lemon butter on the cakes was amazing. Sausage was also very tasty.Oh, and the coffee was the best! And, and Ginger was very friendly and provided all the answers we needed in making our selections and she kept the coffee flowing. Thanks!
N M: This was an experience. A very artsy relaxed feeling upon entering. I loved how happy and friendly the staff was. My whole family was in love with each dish. I recommend everything as we pretty much ordered one of each thing on the brunch menu. My family wants to come back to try the dinner.

Hailey: Great and friendly staff. We had to wait about 10 mins for a table of 4 on a Saturday morning, but they did estimate about 30 mins. They do not have gluten-free bread or batter. I wasn't a fan of the breakfast potatoes, they reminded me of a Thanksgiving meal, lol. But my friends like them. Overall, cool place!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
RG Harden: Attended the wine dinner and they did a great job pairing the entry with each wine. Also go to PC for dinner and have never been disappointed.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Etta Abrahams: The most wonderful expansion of the East side of Lansing for me has been The People’s Kitchen. It’s atmosphere has a lovely grittiness about it and one feels entirely at home in whatever one chooses to wear—dress, denim or drag. But most important are the food, wine and service. Whether for brunch, lunch or dinner, in small or larger groups, every morsel I’ve eaten and sip I’ve imbibed has been transportative. The servers are prompt, knowledgeable and attentive. The chef changes the menu seasonall it seems. Yes, prices are up there, but the experience is worth it. Not fit for a glutton but for those who appreciate reasonably sized portions of finely prepared foods.Be sure to try one of their special wine tasting or beer tasting dinners!Parking: Lots of parking behind and across the street.Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp to restaurant.
Justin Kirkpatrick: Hands down the best restaurant in the area. Haven’t had a bad dish ever, and I often bring out of town guests for dinner. Cocktails are always inventive and fresh. Highly highly recommend.
Mandy Dittmer: Some of the best food in Lansing! Love their pancakes and chicken sandwiches among other things…just an excellent establishment that you must try!
Kyle Parkllan: The food tasted great, and the service and atmosphere was very cool. I would recommend looking at the menu beforehand, as the prices and entrees have changed (understandable) since the last time we visited. Two separate parties were seated next to us and left after looking at the menu claiming they couldn't addord it. The server was so kind and did provide some local recommendations which I'm sure helped what was likely an uncomfortable feeling. We ordered two entrees, no drinks, apps or desert and it was $87 before tip. Unfortunately the portion sizes left us hungry.I'm not saying there's anything wrong with what they charge, but the dinner service seemed to target the high end/specialty dining experience.
Heaven Lee: This place was really good! A bit overpriced, but the vibes are real fun. I got the really fu%#ing good pancakes which were the second best pancakes I've ever had and my fiance got the shrimp and grits which he is still obsessing over days later. The raspberry Daiquiri was not very good, but our mimosas were amazing.Edit in response to the owners feedback: I gave 4 stars for a variety of reasons I did not include because I didn't want my review to deter other customers.I'm personally a vegetarian, I ordered what I did because it was the only thing I saw on the menu that could accommodate to my dietary restrictions. I would love to see the menu be as inclusive as the environment. While our server was super friendly, we barely saw her. I wish she would have stopped at our table one more time to make sure we were doing okay. But it was super busy and I've worked in the service industry so I totally get it, and do not hold anything against our server. But also coming from the food service industry, I was more than alarmed when I saw another server in a different section violate numerous health code violations including handling food with bare hands, not having her hair secured, handling dirty dishes then immediately handling plates that just came from the kitchen without even washing her hands.I also was not a fan of the raspberry Daiquiri because it was not a traditional Daiquiri as I was expecting and it was strong. Not sure if the measurements were off or something, but the flavors were fighting with each other. But that is just my preference, I'm sure someone else would like it.
