According to the gentleman I spoke with, no search can be done on a partial part # and no creative solution based on his (significant?) experience was offered. I provided a LOT of information on my failed alternator: complete regulator part #, alternator brand name, engine used on, amp rating, and most of the alternator part # (beginning letter and last number was unreadable, even after cleaning). The gentleman I spoke to was very curt, offered little help (just take it off and bring it in), and repeatedly said he needed to get back to helping customers. Ummm... That's what I was TRYING to be. I guess helping a customer over the phone is not part of his "work".

Until today have never used Lentz Auto Repair and I must say Ken has been absolutely AWESOME to work with. He completed it in a timely manner and it was only $770. GREAT GUY!!!

Omotayo Ajileye: I took my car for repair because it was making loud sound. They told me it was the converter that needs replacement which they replaced and I was charged $620. I went to pick the car and there was no change in the loud sound that I complained about initially. The Manager then told me the loud sound was probably not the converter problem and acknowledged it was his fault that he could have diagnosed the car before assuming it was a converter issue. I asked them what they could do for me because I can't spend $620 for nothing and he said he will explain the issue with the owner and he will give me a call. I waited for days for the owner to call me and they kept promising he will until I went to the shop and refused to leave. The owner called me on my phone with a hidden number, he made a false claim about the issue and harassed me to leave his shop or he will charge me for trespassing. I was so embarrassed and surprised that people who provide service to the public would behave like that. I even suggested they remove their converter from my car and refund my money but he said they won't do that. I had to just leave and let their conscience judge because that attitude of the owner was a dubious one. Why did they refuse to give me his number and why did he call me with an hidden number if he has nothing to hide. The Manager named Ken was nicer because he took responsibility for his fault but the owner only cares about money and was very rude.

Oliver: I went in because I needed my EV battery looked at on my 2nd Gen Prius. They did an inspection on other parts of my car as part of looking at the battery and was not something I asked them to do. I knew it would be expensive to replace the battery but was hoping to have the battery serviced instead which they did not tell me till I got there that they will not service the battery, only replace it, despite me putting it in the work notes. When they gave me the list of everything else that was wrong with my car, the bill came up to way more than I paid for it in the first place and it seemed like the prices they gave me were inflated quite a bit. They wanted $60.84 just to change my air filter which really isn't that hard to do. Just to have my car looked at cost me $272.97.Service:Vehicle safety inspection

Chase Cain: Was charged $730 for an oil change and spark plug replacement. Started by calling ahead and was told on the phone that if i got the car towed in before they open on Monday that it would be seen first thing as the car wouldn’t start and I need it to drive my sister to class, go to my own classes, and get to work. When I brought the car in and handed over the keys they said it would probably not get seen today but they would call me with an update. I had to call myself a few minutes before they closed to ask if anything had happened only to hear that they “got the car in but it wouldn’t start” which was literally the one reason I brought the car. I was then told that since they closed soon they wouldn’t get anything figured out that day but would call me tomorrow before lunch which I was okay with. The next day I waited again until around 4:15pm then called just to see if anything had happened and got transferred eventually to Eric who I assume is the head mechanic? It wasn’t really explained but the guy talked my ear off for about 20 minutes and pretty much explained how an entire car worked without actually getting to the crux of it which was that they cleaned the spark plugs off and it started so they’re going to put new spark plugs in and change the oil. It could have been said in 15 seconds but he said he really wanted to find some more things wrong with it because he didn’t think that was the real problem. Sent me the estimate and it was $340 for the “good” spark plugs, $260 just for figuring out I needed new spark plugs, $100 for an oil change and $30 for “miscellaneous shop charges”. I really needed the car though and couldn’t afford to wait any more than I could afford their awful prices. We drove from Ann Arbor to have our AC fixed on our Prius and could not possibly be any happier with the service. We had a dealership look at the car before we found this place and they were going to charge us double what we paid because they were just going to replace everything and not take the time to see what was really wrong. I was also told that they wouldn't take advantage of me because I'm a young female in college or screw me over.I ended up bringing my car here last week, and they essentially wanted to replace a sizable portion of my transmission, with a $4,500 estimate. I took it to another shop in Grand Rapids because this didn't seem right to me, and they claimed that both their estimation and the problem were entirely incorrect. In the end, I just had to replace a little component for only $500.Seeing other reviews for this shop this doesn't seem out of the blue from this place to do this to people.Please save yourself the $150 inspection fee and excessive (and false) estimate prices from this company. It disturbs me to think that they intended to use a young female (or anyone else) for their financial gain.

Brought my car back a 2nd time and rode with the mechanic, he agreed the car was not properly aligned "but we're really busy" was the excuse. Alec Vander Sloot: Went in for a rear subframe and rear passenger side control arm replacement they ordered aftermarket parts instead of OEM that was quoted by my insurance (Progressive). They charged me an extra $118 for the aftermarket parts including my deductible of $500, totaling in $618. After a recieved my vehicle back 10 miles into my trip home I noticed a tear in the my leather seats in my 2017 Subaru Outback I took it back to them for employee negleglence I pointed the finger at them stating that it wasn't there before I brought it in and had a photo to prove. So you'd expect them to resolve it and take care of it free of charge. Right? Wrong. They went through their "insurance" I think and paid for a new seat skin plus the labor that they still ended up charging me $150 and in turn I'm at a loss for ever trusting this company with my vehicle in the first place. Side notes they proclaim that the tear only happened due to my "old car" and "cold weather" in my 2017 Subaru Outback. DONT TRUST THIS SHOP WITH YOUR VEHICLE, THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO RIP YOU OFF. Ian Robertson: The first time going to Thompsons was refreshing and fair. The 2nd time was not as great, and the 3rd time was to have them fix the 2nd job. They had my car for a week until they told me they couldn't fix it and still had me pay full price for the botched work. It's a shame.
