After about a day they called and told me my transmission is bad and it will cost almost $12000. Katie Holloway: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!Especially if you are a female (young or old).I was recommended from an oil change shop to bring my car here. I was told that the staff members are good people and that they all go to church together. I was also told that they wouldn't take advantage of me because I'm a young female in college or screw me over.I ended up bringing my car here last week, and they essentially wanted to replace a sizable portion of my transmission, with a $4,500 estimate. I took it to another shop in Grand Rapids because this didn't seem right to me, and they claimed that both their estimation and the problem were entirely incorrect. In the end, I just had to replace a little component for only $500.Seeing other reviews for this shop this doesn't seem out of the blue from this place to do this to people.Please save yourself the $150 inspection fee and excessive (and false) estimate prices from this company. It disturbs me to think that they intended to use a young female (or anyone else) for their financial gain.

Taylor Felton: I own a 2006 Subaru Baja Turbo and for years it has had a rough warm start. I previously took it to 2 mechanics, one in Ludington and one in Grand Rapids. Neither were able to fully diagnose and correct the issue. GT Auto was able to diagnose and fix the issue within 2 days. They were very open about explaining the fix and wanted to ensure I was happy with the results. They are very knowledgeable individuals and I plan to go back to them in the future for new car fixes or projects!

Delaney Carlson: Easily the worst auto shop in grand rapids. We brought our car in for some front end work, only for our problem not to be resolved. Less than a year later, our car is in the shop for the exact same issue. This time however, we are being charged $400 less to have it done correctly. I also have a couple friends who have gotten ripped off buying cars off their lot too. This is not an honest mechanic, these are con artist.

Where as muffler man on 28th by the mall had my car for a week and did not fix it, also forgot to put two major parts back in my car that Westside Garage made me aware of. Muffler man also quoted me $500, so I hope you see where I'm getting at... Definitely recommend Westside Garage, great trustworthy people.

Alec Vander Sloot: Went in for a rear subframe and rear passenger side control arm replacement they ordered aftermarket parts instead of OEM that was quoted by my insurance (Progressive). They charged me an extra $118 for the aftermarket parts including my deductible of $500, totaling in $618. After a recieved my vehicle back 10 miles into my trip home I noticed a tear in the my leather seats in my 2017 Subaru Outback I took it back to them for employee negleglence I pointed the finger at them stating that it wasn't there before I brought it in and had a photo to prove. So you'd expect them to resolve it and take care of it free of charge. Right? Wrong. They went through their "insurance" I think and paid for a new seat skin plus the labor that they still ended up charging me $150 and in turn I'm at a loss for ever trusting this company with my vehicle in the first place. Side notes they proclaim that the tear only happened due to my "old car" and "cold weather" in my 2017 Subaru Outback. DONT TRUST THIS SHOP WITH YOUR VEHICLE, THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO RIP YOU OFF. Ian Robertson: The first time going to Thompsons was refreshing and fair. The 2nd time was not as great, and the 3rd time was to have them fix the 2nd job. They had my car for a week until they told me they couldn't fix it and still had me pay full price for the botched work. It's a shame.

It was from the side and steaming, I said well it's not my radiator, but it's my fluid all over the parking lot. I googled places and I got Russ. He was so nice when I came in I had no fluid and low on oil also. He checked my van found what was wrong and in a couple hours had my daughter and I back on the road back home to Howard City. Great price, very nice did not lie or try to take advantage. I will use him again. Go see Russ, he is great. He has also very kindly taken time out of his busy day to look into a concern I had by riding in the car to identify what was wrong and explain it without charge. He recently did a ton of maintenance on my older car, and I’m very happy with his work.
Accounting DEPT: Russ is an amazing auto repair mechanic! I love the fact that he takes the time to explain what is wrong and includes pictures. Prices are reasonable and Russ isn't about scamming people like me who don't know a thing about cars.

When things don't go as planned (for example, some hoses needed for a repair were back ordered), he is communicative and helpful with those things, and super flexible (like letting you drop your car off overnight if you can't make it in the morning).
