The Old Goat: what do users think?
Holly Binnig: We LOVE the old goat!! We also loved our server Gavin!! He was so fun and kind. Was so attentive and gave the best recommendations. This place is a must go in Alger!!
Dave Boller: Our first time at this fine eatery ... were seated upstairs & Gavin (our server) was very attentive without being intrusive, offering excellent guidance on the choices & food options. The food distracted me from taking pictures ... it was THAT good!
Elizabeth Flores: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5More
Justin Evans: Had the Brisket Sandwich this last time, and the coleslaw was really overpowering. After trying the Brisket alone, easy to see why since there was no flavor. Overall loved the experience from previous visits.Food: 3/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
GG Taruc: Went there for Mother's Day. Wait was not long and host was nice. We sat outside at first but asked to move inside as it was still a bit chilly. Ordered the brisket and Reuben sandwich. They were ok. Not enough meat and both were chewy. Looked impressive bc of the huge pretzel bun but both were not that good. The lobster bisque was good however. Service was so-so. Server seemed stressed out. Haven't been here for a while and don't think we'll be coming back soon.Parking: Parking lot behind restaurant.
Lacey Hutchinson: Always the best place to eat in town! The music is fantastic, sometimes it's live jazz or bluegrass, and the food is a variety, and actually well thought out as a menu. And the staff is always so friendly! Even the people in the kitchen. Lovely place to go to if you're ever in GR!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Lisa Kopanakis: Great service. Excellent food! Fun vibe atmosphere.
Meagan: This restaurant has consistently excellent food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere. We also love the live music! The pretzels and cheese sauce are a favorite, as is the brisket sandwich.

I got the salad, also super fresh with delicious dressing and excellent chicken. My brother got the pizza and loved it, looked great. My dad got the brisket sandwich and said he would absolutely get it again. Prices were reasonable, staff was amazing, food was delicious, and il definitely coming back!

San Chez A Tapas Bistro: what do users think?
Kelly B: If you’ve never had tapas before, this place is probably fine.San Chez came highly recommended by locals and we were sorely disappointed. Some context: We have a *solid* tapas restaurant back in our hometown and I also used to work in Spain. So to say the least, the queso de cabra tasted more like someone opened a jar of Prego, dumped it into a dish and put some whipped goat cheese in it, then stuck it under the broiler for a minute. If you don’t know what it’s supposed to be, it’s probably going to blow your mind. But if you’ve ever had decent tapas, you’re going to be confused about why they’re charging you $18 for 4 small lukewarm chicken bits and some slices of chorizo that taste like they came from the grocery store. The vibes, however, were solid. Cool atmosphere, lively clientele. Obviously a popular spot.Service was sub par, but our waiter gave us some good recommendations around the area so he redeemed himself. We regret spending money here, but if we hadn’t been spoiled with prior tapas experiences this may have been lovely.
Stuart Taylor: Very good food. Their menu was better a few years ago. But still, everything they have is fresh and delicious. Lots of vegetarian choices. Need more meat options.Recommended dishes Tapas …More

K. J. Fruge': When traveling to grand rapids, I always try to make time to visit this wonderful restaurant. They just do things right here. The staff is always friendly and well trained. It’s right downtown so there’s that whole downtown city vibe going on!This trip we ordered white bean and quinoa, patties, calamari, shrimp Fuego. The sauce that accompanied every dish was different and completely delicious. The first bite will captivate your taste buds. And of course you have to get a Mojito.
Yarlene Brooks: It was just OK. Overpriced food
Jackson Brooks: My wife and I came here for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere was really nice and the food was tasty. I really loved the cheese and cold cuts board. My wife was less impressed than I was though. I think the two things I would say are 1) the different parts of the meal really needed some rice or bread or something to tie it together and 2) although the food was tasty, it really wasn't worth the hefty price. In the end I think my rating would be a 3.5, and although I liked the food well enough I wouldn't go back.
Jennifer Dibble: Food is really good!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Causelol: Food was okay took 2 hours to get here.
Paul Nikandrou: We wanted to celebrate my fiancée's birthday at the restaurant but it was a disappointment. Couldn't make a reservation for a Saturday, they told me it shouldn't be bad on a Saturday as long as there's no events going on... Arrived at the restaurant and put our name down for a table for the birthday celebration, they refused to tell us an estimated wait time. They also refused to take my phone number and said we had to either stand there OR go to the bar next door... but don't sit at a booth otherwise they will cancel our table.. so basically you are trapped waiting there. Got a few drinks while everyone arrived and as soona s our second round of drinks arrived they came and told us the table is ready but we couldn't bring the drinks... had to chug them on the spot... During the dinner some people order wine for the table and some ordered sangria... When the birthday girl asked for a second glass to pour some sangria, they waitress said that was not possible... had to keep one glass per person... wild stuff!! Needless tol say, I don't plan on spending $400 there again...
Melissa Looman: Yum yum yum- take your taste buds on a journey, you won’t regret eating here over and over again! Service is a little slow in the Spanish style, so make time to linger.
Sharon Hayward: An absolutely amazing experience! Our server, Layne, was the best in many restaurants and many years.I can only say that about a small handful (3) servers in the GR area. The food was delicious, drinks tasty.I look forward to another visit. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Jeri G: My husband and I were in town for a national volleyball tournament and were staying at the Marriott across the street. We saw good reviews for San Chez A Tapas Bistro and thought we would give it a try. From the cocktails to the tapas to the coffee drinks to the dessert, we were continually happy with the flavors, service, and overall experience. We have traveled the Midwest, and this is by far the BEST meal we have had in years. Each tapa came out the perfect temperature, and the staff took the time to share their recommendations. Our waitress, Kathleen, checked in with us the perfect amount of time to ensure we had everything we needed. It was a WONDERFUL experience/date night.
Josh McCullough: We come here every time we're in town, and it's never disappointed us. Just last week we were in and got fantastic service from Layne; the food was great as always, his recommendations were spot-on, and he was a very friendly and attentive server. There are always standard 'reliable' plates as well as new ones for us to try, and it's a great restaurant to try new things at. If you've been here then you know, and if you haven't then you owe it to yourself to give it a try.
Ankita Guha: The food tastes great, but they were coming one plate at a time with kids size menu. So if you are in a group you can't really share that just one plate with 8 people. Some of us had to wait a long time before the food came on our table and that was annoying. The Enchiladas came in just 2 small pieces on one plate, not sure how anyone would share that with more than 2 people on a table. And the rest had to just wait until the food came. Felt like forever. 😐
Jane: Hands down the best food I've had in my life so far. The stuffed dates are a food I will remember and think about for the rest of my life. The place has a great atmosphere and even better food.
Reese Clark: Favorite tapas in town!

H Williams: This was my first experience dinning at The Chop House. The atmosphere was nice and the dinning area was clean. My party was seated in the basement. I was not aware that there was basement seating, which was fine. However, the hostess didn't inquire if anyone needed to access an elevator (if there was one available). The wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable when it came to menu questions and recommendations. My water glass was always full and the plates were cleared immediately (table crumbs too).I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye. It was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Au Gratin potatoes were delicious. The sauce on the 3 cheese macaroni and cheese was watery, but it could be just preference as I like a thicker cheese sauce.I would definitely return for another dinning experience.
Cellme12: Don’t except the table in the basement, by the wine and wine glass storage. Unless you don’t mine waiter’s squeezing behind your chair to get bottles of wine and glasses through out your meal.Food: 5/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

Demetrius Collette: My food was delicious. I had the aged NY strip, Brussel sprouts, the lobster tail bites and the calamari. The calamari had to much sauce on it but was still good. I also had a cheesecake to go.
Tank: Eating at this place is an event. They employ the best servers who treat you like you are special. The chefs are experts in ensuring the temperature of your steak is spot on. In the 6 times I’ve eaten here, the temperature has only been off once and they redid the order to make it right and gave me a free dessert also! They truly are the premier eatery in Grand Rapids. They aren’t cheap, but they are worth it!
Craig Nance: Service was excellent, Waygu steak did not live up to the hype.
Chen Seleena: Celebrated my fiancé’s 40th birthday here last night. Top notch dining experience from start to finish. Exceptional food and attentive customer services. For appetizers we had Lollipop Lamb Chops and Crispy Fried Oyster Mushrooms; for mains, Pan Seared Diver Scallops and Surf & Turf. Desserts and drinks were delicious too. CC: Soo good! I’ve been here countless times and it never disappoints. Pricey but consistently great quality food and large portions. The only thing I’ve ever gotten that I did not like is the chicken strips (chewy and tough for $18). Everything else, including the service, is 10/10.Update: Green Well is always excellent. Pictured: Michigan turkey sandwich (personal fav) and Pierogis (seasonal), tacos (Thursdays only)Second Update: I’m a bit disappointed to say I think the quality and service has declined a touch. The last two times we went out food was good but not great, which makes it hard to justify the price. I ordered a medium-well burger and it was pretty raw, I couldn’t eat it. The service was also slow. We often get the curry with chicken, but now priced at $27 it’s just too steep for what it is. I’ll still be back, but will probably reserve this place for happy hour and lunch only.
Gary Morris: We ended up going there by mistake, never knew it was even there. Party of six everyone commented how fabulous the food was, wait was minor, wait staff was right on. Definitely will be returning. By far the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Two people at our party ordered the Cuban and loved.

Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar: what do users think?
miles fitzpatrick: Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen and Bar was a delight indeed! Again, I was in a hurry and asked if I could be served, eat and pay within 60 minutes. My friendly Server, Sam, assured me that my worries were unfounded. She was right! I had the Chicken & Waffles with Sriracha dipping sauce, Maple syrup and Southern style Fries. It was absolutely AMAZING! I’m definitely returning with my wife and friends!

Titus Shaffer: I've eaten here a handful of times now. They've been great every meal. Their chicken and waffles are outstanding. Only gripe is no mashed or baked potato which seems to me necessity for a place with excellent fried chicken but they have excellent grits so it's a meaningless critique unless potato is a must have for you, if so their crispy french fries should do it. As good as their food is fear not. You will find something wonderful. Book them on Open Table with confidence which during the weekend is necessary because with good food comes people and wait times.

Megan Nicholas: I rarely leave negative reviews, but this visit warrants one. We were celebrating the anniversary of our engagement at a place we had heard great things about and that is down the street from our venue. We made a reservation for over an hour and a half before our Broadway show and the food took an hour and a half to come out, despite them knowing we were going to the show, making us late for our $200 show. They almost did not let is in.After spending over an hour hearing “five or ten more minutes,” everything about our order was wrong (wrong food delivered), we had to take it to go and didn’t get to eat (leaving us hungry during the long show), and it went bad in the warm car during our 2.5 hour show + hour drive home.We were told by the sympathetic server that they felt terrible and would be comping our meals and to have a nice night. We thanked them profusely because this was the right thing to do on their behalf. However, upon leaving, I made the mistake of thanking them once again and they told me they had my check. They only comped us for 20% of the meal that we did not get to enjoy and still had to pay the majority cost of the already pricey meal. We did not have time to argue since the show was starting and we had already splurged on good seats. We will not be coming back and have told our friends in the area that this was the worst date night we have experienced in our 7 years together.

Samuel Schubkegel: Food feels slightly overpriced for what you get. Also, I ordered a waffle that was supposed to be stuffed with macaroni, and it was definitely a waffle sitting on top of macaroni. Not a big deal, just funny because the menu said that it was stuffed.Food overall is good but not as exciting as the vibe that this place gives off.Atmosphere is stellar. Feels clean, upscale and comfortable. Every time I’ve been, lunch or dinner, they’ve had availability.I live in Grand Rapids and find myself going here once or twice a year. Review may change over time.I’m rooting for this place! I love the style of food and the ambiance. Just need the price and flavor to pick up some slack and I’ll be fully on board.

Bellissimo Bellissimo: If you are going there Saturday evening then I would recommend to reserve a table before you reach there. I did call them in the afternoon and got a table booked for 7:15 pm. It was crowded. We were highly disappointed with Mushroom wood fire pizza as it really had no taste other than a taste and smell of overcooked(rather burnt) garlic. To continue the bite I asked for chili fake and salt and sprinkled over my pizza. We Just enjoyed the beer and cocktails and two start are for that. Prepare to walk a bit as parking is not always guaranteed in front of the restaurant.
Mary Klaasen: Went for dinner. Waiter, Thomas, was personable, knowledgeable and fantastic. The house manager? Not sure, lady with floral shirt and pink glasses and top bun, was absolutely rude and condescending with an issue we had. It was weird she came at me about the reservation which I didn’t make, I was just attending the dinner planned by another. Food was pretty good but the mushroom pizza was a bit bland the highlight of it was the crispy crust. The toppings really did t taste like anything The braised lamb was good but the pretzel rod with it tasted off. Cocktails were interesting and inventive. Not sure we would go again.Parking: Kingsley building parking was easy to find and the restaurant validated the parking.

So it might take awhile for the chef to make them. We waited about 40 mins for our sushi. It's worth the wait. But I would recommend ordering more appetizers and some not so complicated sushi if you are ordering the chef special.
A F: The sushi is worth the wait. But the wait can sometimes be too long hence the 4/5 stars
Ruchika Kakwani: Service was super slow but the food and servers were amazing!Recommended dishes Rolls, Firecracker Shrimp …More
Andy Ly: I brought my family here for my moms birthday and I had high expectations due to the previous reviews, but I was overall disappointed at the service and the quality of food. It took 50 minutes for our food to come out, and by then it was closing time. Our waitress was quite curt, unfriendly and kept rushing us even though it was the kitchens fault for not having the food finished sooner. The food was also way too salty and the dishes sloppily prepared. Will not be coming back here in the future and I suggest you try a different establishment.
FriedChicken: Food is good, menu kinda like a fusion Japanese/Korean restaurant. Very cool vibe to chill and enjoy your food. Aesthetically everything are great.Cost wise, their sushi is like $2-3 more than average. Does it worth the extra cost because it is picture worthy, it is up to you. I don't think so. If you want the best bang for your buck, order their rice dishes. For average appetite, you order two signature rolls, that's almost $40.
Francesca Parnham: Maru is always consistently good. The restaurant has great vibes and the service is excellent. I’ve had Avery as a server almost every time I’ve been recently and she is absolutely phenomenal. Cocktails are delicious and balanced!
Jessie Palmer: So disappointing. We drove from out of town to celebrate the birthday of a dear friend. We had been to other Maru locations and had high hopes, but alas, we were sorely disappointed. We went for sushi... Maru is a sushi restaurant. They were out of tuna, and had zero other sashimi style fish available on the menu. Unfortunately neither the hostess nor our server told us this until we had already consumed cocktails and could not leave without it being awkward. So we ordered alternate (cooked) choices, and they were very disappointing, plus everything all came out at once rather than in courses. There wasn't enough room on the table and my husband couldn't reach his steak because they put other plates in front of him. By the time he finished his appetizer, it was cold and our server was nowhere to be found. My hibachi salmon was salty, like it had been soaked overnight in soy sauce. Another server stopped by our table and said "you don't want more drinks, do you"? A third server stood at our table and watched my friend eat his last couple of bites, then snatched the plate as soon as he put his chopsticks down. The manager(?) Brought our checks before we even ordered dessert, and already had it split, rather than asking if we were on a single bill (we were planning to treat our guests for my friends birthday) which created yet another awkward situation. My husband wrote on the bill that he would like a call from the manager to discuss our evening- it has been a week and still no call. The wine was good, though... too bad I couldn't get a second glass. :(
Dan Elzinga: This was my first time ever to a sushi restaurant so I really have nothing to say about the food. Could be great, could be mediocre, I have nothing to compare it with. The service, however was the strangest restaurant service experience I have had in the United States. They were out of Tuna, which seems like a fairly big deal for a sushi restaurant, but it wasn’t until we tried to order that the waitress told us that.Despite a question about salad dressings when ordering, and believing we had ordered blue cheese dressing, it wasn’t until the salads came out that we were told there is only one salad dressing option.Timing of the food was off, the hibachi course was delivered at the same time as the rolls and there really wasn’t room on the table for everything. When food arrived it was the last time our waitresses came to our table.I’ve never been ghosted by a waitress. It was strange. She was still there serving other tables but never so much as acknowledged our existence after that point. After this we had at least 5 other staff come over to clear plates, refill drinks etc, which was rather awkward, and felt like we were being rushed out. At one point one of the staff who came to pick up plates literally stood there waiting for me to eat the last bite and then took my plate as soon as I set down my chopsticks. Then, I assume it was the manager came over with our checks and asked if we wanted one check or two. Even though she had clearly already run two separate checks. When we said we had thought about dessert she was clearly annoyed. It just kept getting stranger and stranger the longer we were there, so we opted to go elsewhere for dessert.

Tophiachuu Chuu: Service was great… but managers are so rude. Treat their employees like garbage… did some research on the background of this company and looks like it’s an ongoing problem. Real shady, Maru. Not going to be stopping here again. That’s for sure.

Mike Webb: Very good! I had the Ocean's Eleven and my wife had hibachi, with both of us sharing the crab rangoon dip. It took a little while to get to us, but when it did the food was great. Heather Morrison: A great place to grab dinner with friends to catch up! They have a large variety of appetizers and entrees, so everyone will find something they enjoy. As a table, we tried a couple of apps and a handful of different rolls and everything was delicious. The Crab Rangoon Dip is very creamy and rich and the Gyoza is perfect. For rolls, we ordered the Cali, Philly, Crouching Tiger, Ex-Girlfriend, Nirvana, and Crunchy Crab. Everything was delicious. For drinks, I tried the Soup Lemonade and I think the sangria. Both were good!Parking: Parking can be challenging close to the building but you can always find something, you might just have to walk a few blocks.

Jesika Cueta: Had an amazing dining experience at this cozy restaurant pub, great service and heavenly food… will definitely be back.
Tasha Jones: Friendly service, hometown-casual vibe, great food! Definitely worth checking out! Sandwich was great and fries were amazing. Beer was served warm which was disappointing but flavor was good. Brussel sprout app was delicious! They had road construction out front which made getting to them a little complicated but was worth the inconvenience
Leandro Binuya: If you want to wait an hour for food and drinks after you’re seated, this is the place.
Madie Hillen: I really like the food and atmosphere here. However, the parking situation is not great if you're bringing an elderly person. The prices were also wildly expensive. On a plus side, our waitor was very nice.Parking: Not super great if you're bringing an elderly person.

For food I had the truffle m&c along with the beer battered chicken sandwich and I wasn’t disappointed. They also serve a wide variety of drafts and cocktails that were on special on the Easter Sunday I came in. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of the menu and drink options. Mia Cusenza: We got the double cheeseburger and New York steak strip and they were both amazing! The atmosphere is 10/10 I don’t think any spot in the restaurant is a bad one especially with all the open air with the open sky room we were in and the front windows of the restaurant being retractable. I strongly recommend this place if you’re looking for a good date night. 🍴💕

Lindsay Chadwell: Butchers union is one of the coolest places to dine in GR! It was PACKED on a Tuesday. I snuck in and grabbed a bar seat to try the new summer cocktails and a light dinner! Everything was great, I only wish there were more salad and chicken options! They had one chicken entree on the menu and it was a half of a chicken that took a minimum of 20 minutes. The chicken on the salad was also an option. The service was impeccable. Definitely shoot for a seat in the back as that’s the most asthethic and open area of the restaurant! I probably won’t dine alone here again as it was pretty loud and packed, but definitely recommend for a dinner with friends or a date!
Rebecca Irby (PEAC Institute): Incredible food and drinks! The bar has such a wide and deep liquor selection, especially the whiskeys, but also A LOT of great beers. I highly recommend! And get there on the earlier side, it gets busy quick - they open at 4.

Aaron LePoire: I wanted to like this more with all of the stellar reviews I've heard, but I came away disappointed. The atmosphere and service were great, as well as the cocktails, but the food overall was disappointing. We found multiple hairs in our food and found it to be underwhelming and slightly under seasoned. It was very busy, they do have a wait list but no reservations and it gets very loud so don't expect an intimate experience.Parking: Street parking and paid lots available nearby.

Jim Miars: Had a great experience there, place is super busy, but our foursome got treated great. Try the Brussel Sprouts, amazing! It would be easy for a place like this, due to their high foot traffic location, to be lazy with regard to food and/or service. Not this place! I have been there since and sat in a different spot with picky orderers/eaters- again, treated wonderfully, food was great. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. There is often a wait, so prepare for that. We had cocktails out on the street while waiting, it was great. We were a little hungover the next day, lol.
Tisha DeGiulio: Yuuuuuum. Such an amazing experience. Everything was so tasty, the pork belly was incredible. Ricotta incredible. Burger was voted best burger in GR by the model in the picture. Our waiter, Alex, was super knowledgeable about the food & drinks which made our first time here so comfortable. He was attentive, gave great recommendations, and so kind! Will be back soon, thank you!!
Nick Annese: Great selection of bourbon and other cocktails. In my opinion the food, while good, is nothing exceptional and not worth the price tag.
Joy Shin: their dessert is AMAZING ! atmosphere & service was good too but the cake had me fall in love with this place🤤
Patrick Martin: Appetizers were good service was very good...unfortunately the main courses were not great and at the prices they charge you would think the wouldn't OVER cook everything..Food: 2/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5 …More
Courtney Leeper: We really enjoyed our dinner at Butcher's Union. They don't take reservations, but have a online waitlist you can join, we went on a Wednesday night and it was packed so there we had a 30 min wait for 4, but we all agreed it was well worth the wait. Our server was fantastic, and we had a drink at the bar before being seated and staff at the bar was wonderful. Great beer and cocktail selection, not a huge menu but we all got something different and enjoyed it. The inside is beautiful and so unique it made for a great dinning experience. Would definitely recommend trying this place!!
Joseph Lange: Thanks Emma for your great service‼️The food was delicious 👍

Tia Carmichael: Leo's never disappoints! Great atmosphere, fantastic menu, fresh and delicious seafood, and well-trained, excellent servers. Leo's is a true "fine dining" experience in downtown Grand Rapids. I always love it when the server adds value to a wonderful evening -- Brook, our server last night, has a great sense of humor, timed our meal perfectly as we were visiting with our good friends and taking our time with cocktails and food. We loved everything we ordered (Calamari, Halibut, Jambalaya, and Crab Cakes). The portion sizes were just right, too. They have several cozy booths as well as many tables along the windows if you want to make a request to avoid sitting in the middle of the room. Highly recommend Leo's and advise you to make reservations in advance.

It was full of a nice assortment of seafood items in a delicious & not too spicy Cajun sauce served on rice. I loved it and will have it again. The rolls were a nice addition, so many places don't serve anymore and even the melt in your mouth chocolates were a nice finishing touch to a perfect meal. Wonderful experience from our host to our waitress, I dont remember her name but she was well informed and treated like we were vip guests.Parking: Attached to the parking garage.
