Oak & Reel: what do users think?
Alba Male: Service was amazing! The food was cold and flavors were blend! There was nothing on the menu that had any special flavors! Way over hyped for no reason! Portions were small and pricey!Food: 2/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 2/5 …More
Samarth Jadav: One of the best Italian fine cuisine in metro Detroit area! To put it in perspective, my parents are from India and they have lot of dietary restrictions and yet they enjoyed their food so much, explains a lot that this is the place for everyone. Lobster ravioli is a must try. I had a lamb pasta( I don’t remember the name of the dish). Drinks were good too! I will definitely go back to Oak and Reel and highly recommend it to everyone.
Eric Kociuk: Fantastic dining experience. Incredible atmosphere, fantastic food and top notch service. Pastas are made fresh every morning and seafood is flown in daily. Our server knew every detail about the menu and was able to make appropriate reccomodations based on our preferences. Highly recommend.Parking: Large free parking lot next to restaurant
Chas Williams: Always amazing!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Recommended dishes Crudo Tasting, Seafood Parking space Plenty of parking Parking options Free parking lot …More
Jess D: Honestly one of the best meals we have ever had. Gluten free pasta options, and oysters are off the charts good…waitress was exceptional! going back Asap!Parking: Closed in parking lotDietary restrictions: Gluten friendly
Nadene Jensen: This is without a doubt in the top 3 meals I have ever had.
Phil E: Although not cheap, Oak and Reel is worth every penny! It truly is one of those restaurants where “you cant go wrong” with anything you order. We had the asparagus and focaccia bread to start. Best focaccia ever! Then we had the caramelle, swordfish and the tartaleta. Everything was to die for! We also enjoyed an inexpensive bottle of very tasty white wine recommended by our waiter. The waitstaff and knowledgable, friendly and attentive and give 10/10 service. We will be back here!
Debra Roman: This is a wonderful restaurant. Such a pleasant surprise. The food and service were outstanding and it won't be long until we come back. The octopus is the best that I've had so far. And everything else we had was outstanding. Would definitely recommend.Parking: There is a free lot next door. We went on a Sunday, but the lot may fill up on a Friday or Saturday.

Jeanne Peabody: Wonderful experience from start to finish. Our server was prompt, courteous, and very knowledgeable. We each ordered the 4 course meal and it was worth it. For starters we shared (we discretely shared our dishes because when something is excellent, you want your love to try it!) oysters and we both liked west coast better than east coast, and the crostini. Fantastic. For pasta we had the crab filled ravioli, and the pesto pasta with the shrimp and scallop sausage. Both were excellent. For mains we got halibut and the ribeye and while the halibut was good, the ribeye was fantastic. For dessert we had the chocolate cake and the pistachio custard and while both were yummy, the custard was the clear winner. The wine by the glass menu is comprehensive and they make a nice old fashion, too. The atmosphere was inviting and calm, but busy with very attentive workers. Parking was easy, safe, and free (right next door). The service was impeccable. One of the best meals we've ever had right here in our backyard. Yay, Detroit!
Garden Court: We live downtown and have been to nearly every restaurant several times. For some reason this is our 1st time to Oak and Reel and this is by far the best meal we’ve had since I can even remember. Absolutely delicious, every course!Recommended dishes Seafood …More

Maddie: The food is 5 stars. The service is 1. The waitress, hostess, and sommelier were all rude. The sommelier shamed us for asking for a bottle less than $130. Waited 30 mins for a table despite a reservation. It’s a shame because of how great the food and wine was. Ambiance is also great but don’t think I’ll return.
Cyle Lublin: First date at this place. David, the waiter, was fantastic. The food was spectacular and the drinks were just as such. Highly recommend for a date night!Recommended dishes Hamachi Crudo, Tasting Menu-Dessert Course Chocolate Torte with Orange Gelee and Fresh Whipped Cream, Tuna Raw, Crudo Tasting, Snapper, Lobster Ravioli …More

Staci Bryant: The food was chef's kiss! All items well explained, with great drink pairing. The seats were very comfortable and loved the dreamy esthetic. Great dessert as well! Recommend for special occasions! Also there is a cute little honey comb hideout in the basement for night caps and small plates!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5Parking options Free parking lot …More
Michael Flutka: Really hit or miss meal and certainly not the experience I would have expected for +$150/pp. Our leek appetizer was excellent and the crab-stuffed caramelle pasta was delicious, but mains both fell flat. Trout was drowning in olive oil and texture of the fish bordered on mush. Steak (rib eye) entree had an odd density to it that was closer to duck and zero marbling. Service is off. Our server was very nice but it really seemed like it was his second time serving in his life. Runners didn't accurately describe some dishes and mispronounced a few of them. The gal that was acting as sommelier poured our wine so aggressively that it splashed onto the table multiple times which I've never experienced in my life. It honestly seemed like she was trying to decant it as it was coming out of the bottle! Pluses are attractive, light filled dining room, great wine list and a cute bar in the basement. I'd probably go back to share a few primi and pasta dishes at the bar, but wouldn't have a full meal until they sort out some of the kitchen and training issues.
Davis Herr-Williams: Get that tasting menu, it was incredible!!! With Lauren giving us some great service. Entire FOH team was amazing, helpful and knowledgeable. One of my favorite dining experiences

Loreta Geneviciute: Amazing restaurant ! My husband and I visited this place September of 2022 and we both agreed that we will come back to Detroit just to eat at this place again. We love all the food we had and drinks were delicious! If you ever visit Detroit this place should be at the top of your restaurant list.
Stephanie O'Callaghan: Since it opened, it’s been one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Always meets or exceeds expectations. Love the vibe, the decor, etc and more importantly love the food. It’s fresh and creative, flavorful and doesn’t sit heavy. I like the Mediterranean vibe but they don’t limit themselves creatively. The pastas are always phenomenal. The veggie dishes delicious and thoughtful. I love sitting at the chefs counter and watching them work the open fire and coal oven spaces. Great beverage list too! Highly recommend. I always stop here when I’m in the area.
Alex: One of the best dining experiences I've had in Michigan. Started off with the cocktail called immediate detour. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the drink was given I'm usually underwhelmed by restaurant cocktails. The food was amazing. I was able to try the green salad, roasted broccoli, roasted pasnips, roasted potatoes, cacio e pepe, chittara, and beef tartare. All were excellent, but the pastas (cacio e pepe and chittara) and the roasted potatoes were my favorite. I tried the horchata tres leche cake for dessert. I've never tried this style of cake before and I wasn't a big fan, but it was good to try something new. I also tasted a bit of the pecan pie -- highly recommended. Looking forward to trying this place out again.

Todays Present: This was a perfect dining experience. Ryan is the best waiter. After coming here again, I will request him every time. He gives excellent recommendations and his descriptions ensure there are no surprises. I loved everything we had here. The sweet potato pasta and the mushrooms were my absolute favorite. The broccoli was great, but very spicy. The duck on toast was divine! The tri tip and the raspberry tart were just okay (I wouldn't order again). I enjoyed having the dining room reservation, the communal reservation would be too loud/close and not my type of experience. The scallops were spicy but irresistible. The hake is the only thing I’ve ever tried here that did not meet the standards of the rest of the food. It was mushy and inedible. I wasn’t told if this was a fluke or by design. But I would not recommend the hake.
Sanam Sharif: Good place. Good food. Good service. Family style dining. Has a good vibe and ambiance.
E Vaughan: Have been here several times, but this time, my daughter, who is highly allergic to tree nuts, came along. I was able to notify Selden Standard at the time of making the reservation. The staff got the message and were ready for us. The staff was extremely careful and accommodating. We are grateful for their kind attention.Recommended dishes Lamb Chops …More
Juliette Okotie-Eboh: Rude manager and hostess staff— I have dined there frequently over the years and always had a great experience until today. Their behavior was racist and very upsetting— I will never return!! Must be new management — I did not see the folks who were always gracious and welcoming. Our server was fine but I was throughly insulted, especially by the manager. What a disappointment.
DCHS Library: Best food that I have eaten in Detroit since we moved here a decade and a half agoVegetarian options: celery root parmigiana is amazing
zachary campbell: I came here for my birthday. Everything was great! I Will definitely be back again!Recommended dishes Lamb Chops …More
Nicole T: Am I the only one confused by all these 4 star reviews?? I think it’s by childless millennial hipsters who think they are dining in an upscale Manhattan atmosphere. I found NOTHING about this place appealing - except the waitress who was very kind and attentive. The menu is extremely overpriced with froufrou stuff and small portions. And how are charging over $20 for vegetables?? $18 for some cooked cheese? Tiny little portions . We had 3 “‘meals” and shared 3 appetizers and still weren’t full. To top it off, I got extreme food poisoning from there. I don’t mind paying more for a good dinner, but at least include some sides and have more salad choices. Not very impressed in the least bit. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere where at least you get good portion size- and not dishes that were created for someone’s Instagram “aesthetic”Vegetarian options: More vegetarian options than actual meat
Bridget Finn: All time favorite forever. ♥️
Nicole Castro: Great food and service. It can be pretty loud, so if you are sensitive, you may want to consider going at off hours. The tres leches cake was wonderful.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Oysters on the Half Shell …More

William Vosotros: Food was wonderful. The fennel & endive salad was good. Cacio e Pepe was great! The lamb ribs were soft and cooked really well. The agrodolce and lemon yogurt works really well with the lamb. The green sauce elevates the grilled chicken flavor. Both the cod & bass were awesome! Overall it was a truly wonderful gastronomic experience.Parking: Limited parking on the side back of the restaurant but lots of parking on the street as well as the vacant lot on the front of restaurant.
Josh Levey: Excellent farm to table dining in midtown Detroit. Food is very high quality and unique, with interesting, distinct and delicious flavor pairings. Cocktails and drinks are also great. Several vegan and vegetarian options. We ordered the roasted carrots, the roasted broccoli, the roasted mushrooms, the cacio e pepe and the chittara. Everything was amazing. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, bringing us fresh plates and utensils after every course. Great, refined dining experience

Ron Reed: Karl's is a Detroit classic that is one of the most popular unknown places in the city. On the second floor of the Siren hotel, the food is some of the best value on downtown. The menu has a wide variety from great breakfast choices to excellent lunch and dinner. The service is typical Detroit, super friendly and attentive. I would recommend this as a great brunch choice if you want to meet friends, with family or a date.Big shout out to the entire team for pulling of a great restaurant.

You can valet, or park at the casino garage.

Shay Miller: Great atmosphere. Food is on the expensive side but getting great service in a unique building worth a tour.
Leah Purkiss: Had a great time! Food was great! Service was extremely slow but staff were very friendly. Soup a bit sour but everything was very fresh. Would I go again? Yes!
Guy Diakow: I really want to like Karl’s… cool location and space, food is good (not great), but over priced and most importantly, the staff are disinterested and seem bothered by guests. Have been twice and start to finish each time it felt like they were doing me a favor.

Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails: what do users think?
Lauren Thul: This was our first meal, on our first trip to Detroit, and it was delightful! Maricela was a fantastic server that made us feel so welcome and gave us lots of tips and suggestions for exploring the city. As a gluten-free customer, she made it super easy for me to know what was GF friendly. The food was so delicious, and I've never seen a selection of Chartreuse (my favorite liquor) quite like this. Atmosphere was lovely without being pretentious. We can't wait to return to Detroit and hopefully see Maricela again!
Valerie Rusinowski: This place is always great - but if you want extra superb ask for Katie as your server!! She makes the experience extra!!
Kashyap Sigdel: Possibly the best hospitality I've ever received at a restaurant. Everyone did a fantastic job. Food was great and ambiance was great as well. Food portions are a little small so I'd recommend getting more than you think you need. The place was packed when we went for dinner on a Tuesday, so it was a little loud, but other than that, I'd give this restaurant 10 stars!

K. L.M.: I've been here a number of times, and never had a dish I didn't like. Nothing has even been "meh." I'm glad they have a menu that isn't overwhelming, because I already feel major FOMO when picking what to get! My husband an I cam back for our anniversary, and the staff went above and beyond. We'll continue to be return customers for many years.Dietary restrictions: My husband and I had a minimony where we had our immediate family witness our legally binding wedding ceremony (the courthouse was still shut down for weddings due to COVID) at a gallery in the DIA. We chose Chartreuse for dinner afterward, partially due to proximity, but also because the menu looked great, and they were willing to work with a number of different dietary restrictions for everyone in the group. Everyone left giving rave reviews! Meal ingredients were either tweaked or the rare dish that couldn't be made without the trigger/allergen was struck off the family member's menu. Above and beyond for 3 people with highly specific dietary needs.
Brandon Gomes: Great menu, food was tasty. We had four dishes, including dessert plus a couple of cocktails. The chartreuse was a great new experience, tried the green and the yellow, amazing in cocktails. The shareable plates model is great, although it is better for some dishes more than others. But the service was great, the atmosphere was awesome (definitely recommend for dinner dates), and the flavors here are lovely. A little overzealous with the microgreens in my opinion but overall worth it.

Taking time to listen and explain their delicious dishes. Sensual dining at it's best and an amazing team!Dietary restrictions: Your server will explain all gluten-free options and the kitchen will accommodate your needs.
Pavlov Iryna: This place made my Birthday with a spark. Let me tell you this, I never come back to places with poor service. well this place is great! Hostess was super sweet and gave me a birthday card that was signed by the servers, it was so sweet! Our server was super nice, cool and friendly. Food was amazing, it is perfect for everyone who appreciate a good cuisine. They have a seasonal menu which is always interesting! Bar is great as well. My husband and I are cocktail buffs and pretty picky ones, and their cocktails are delicious and in point. The place itself has a character too, sort of rustic French in one of the old Detroit building. Overall it’s a good restaurant for this who appreciate good food and good drinks. Recommend!
Nadja Becker: Pretty decent food.Absolut good cocktails.Gluten free food available.I really enjoyed every bite of it. Good place to go after visiting the DIADietary restrictions: Gluten free
